Chapter 2

We walked towards an ammunition where we could find weapons to defend ourselves. It wasn't broken into, yet. So there were no expected 'killers' inside. Chen used the axe, we picked up from the dead body earlier to break in.

"Isn't this wrong?" I asked.

"What?" Chen asked in disbelief.

"Isn't it wrong to steal from here?" I asked and Chen just shook his head and let out a sarcastic laugh.

"We aren't in the situation to differentiate between right and wrong. If we survive this night, then none of this is even going to matter." Chen said as he handed me a huge gun. "Do you know how to use this?" He added.

"This is the first time I've ever seen a gun!" I said and he let out a deep sigh.

"So have I!" Chen said and I raised my eyebrows at him. I thought he could use this stuff. "What? Do I look like I'm an expert killer? I've spent half of my life in studios." Chen defended while I nodded. He must've had his own reasons to be stuck out here.

"So, now?" I asked and Chen took a deep breath before answering.

"Okay, let's try. It won't be that hard." Chen said as he placed his finger on the trigger and I shut my eyes and ears tightly, waiting for the noise. He pointed it towards the glass windows and pressed the trigger. We heard a loud noise before the glass shattered into pieces.

"I'll use these." I said as I found a knife in the shop.

"No, I don't think knives are of any use. You're going to use these." Chen said as he handed me a pistol he found at the display.

"But then-" I started but Chen quickly placed his hand over my mouth and sat down behind the long, display desk. Chen removed his hand and placed a finger over his lips, gesturing me to keep quiet while I simply nodded. I felt shivers running up my spine as I heard footsteps towards the shop.

"Stay down." Chen whispered as he shifted towards the weapons and picked up a gun.

"Someone already broke in." A female voice said as she ran towards the shop. I could only hope to get out of here alive. Soon, we heard more footsteps before two more men entered. I looked at Chen who was arming the gun with bullets. I could only gulp as I saw him slowly stand up while curling the back of the gun in his fingers. He stood up suddenly and randomly shot towards the people. It was bad, really bad. He had his eyes closed while he was shooting them aimlessly but I don't blame him. It's not like he was prepared for this day.

The woman and one of the men had already fallen dead but the other man hid behind a chair. Chen sat down and pointed his gun towards the chair. As the man stood up for a counter attack, Chen fired continuously and we heard a loud thud as the man fell down. When we were sure that there was no more danger, we slowly stood up and I ran towards him.

"Are you alright?" I asked.

"Yes. We need to take all this and leave. We can't stay in one place, hurry up. I don't think they're the only ones around." Chen said and we picked up the guns with some extra bullets and a knife each. We walked further and realised that we were heading towards the main city.

"Chen, we should change our route. The main city would be a bad idea." I suggested while he only shook his head.

"You want to be safe right? We need to head towards the EXO's dorm." Chen said and I looked at him as if he'd gone insane. Their dorm was in the heart of the city which only means more peole to encounter. Who knows what kind of weapons they'd have?

"That is exactly in the main city. Do you want to get us killed?!" I asked and Chen just shook his head once again.

"Where do you want to go then?" Chen asked.

"Let's think of a place where no one would look for us. Maybe, a school rooftop? Or the woods?" I suggested while he seemed unimpressed by the idea.

"And what if a group of people find us there? You can't ensure our safety but our dorm has a really good security system. It's built to withstand worst case scenarios so we'll be safe there." Chen said and I found his idea better but what if we find a group in the main city?

"No, I can't risk my life. Let's just hide in a tunnel or something and come out once it's 7:00 am." I said and he just gave me a pissed off look.

"Are you that dumb?! Do you even know that people are out purging with dogs. The dogs are obviously going to smell and find out where the people are hiding!" Chen said and I found myself scared yet disgusted. Why would anyone be so desperate about killing?!

"But what if-" I started but was interrupted by Chen.

"I hear some noises. We need to hide." Chen said as he pulled me into one of the buildings around. We ran inside, all the way towards the upper floors and hid in one of the rooms at the far end. I quickly shut the door and locked it just in case someone enters this building and finds us here.

"No, don't close it. Leave it open like the other rooms." Chen said and I gave him a questioning look.

"Do you want to die? What if someone looks for us around here?" I asked.

"That's why I'm saying. There are so many rooms in this building that no one will look for us in each and every room but they'll get suspicious if they see only one door closed among all others." Chen said. Still unsure, I left the door open and made my way towards the far end of the room, behind a working desk. Chen stood up to peep outside the windows.

"They don't look like they're entering this building... probably because it's too big to look around." Chen said and before he could stand up once again, I pulled him down.

"Don't peep outside, that's how I got caught." I said and he nodded and sat down beside me.

"What is your name?" Chen asked.

"Ji-Ah" I said simply as I placed my head on my knees.

"What was a pretty girl like you doing outside on a purge night?" Chen asked and I narrowed my eyes at him. So much for formality!

"Some people broke into our house so I snuck out before they could catch me." I said and he raised his eyebrows at me.

"And your parents? Are they-" Chen asked unsure of how to continue but I interrupted before he misunderstood.

"They're in Japan, perfectly fine." I said. "Oh right, just in case we die tonight, Call Me Baby by EXO is the best song I've ever heard! I want to thank all the EXO members for being born." I said and I saw Chen chuckling at that. It was the first time I saw him smiling in real life.

"You're worried about that?! Such a fangirl mentality! Seriously, how old are you?" Chen commented and I found myself a little offended. You don't just insult fangirls!

"You don't like fangirls?" I asked.

"No, they're cute, sometimes annoying." Chen said and I could see him get a little relaxed by now. It was the same with me, regardless of our situation I felt comfortable and a little more at ease.

"Do you think we'll make it alive?" I asked.

"Hopefully!" Chen sighed. "I don't think this will be over by tomorrow morning." He added.
