Chapter Four
Mark's POV
Finally. After all those hours of preparation, there were literally minutes left until commencement. Until I can be able to look for the horrible person who almost drained me of all my blood and sent me to the hospital, until killing him is finally legal.
I make sure everything is locked and safe before grabbing my stuff and heading out to my car. I turn on the ignition before driving out and heading to town. On my way, I see people locking their doors, protecting their homes, while others already out with guns, waiting for the siren to sound. Finally... I hear the siren and then all hell breaks loose.
To my left, I see people beating each other to a pulp. To my right, I see a bus on fire with people in it. I laugh at the stupidity of others to just kill for fun, to have their "lives cleansed" in order to keep this nation "pure".
The more I keep driving, the more horrific things I see. People being dragged out of their houses and onto the streets so people could kill them, people getting cornered and shot multiple times. All up until I get to a quiet neighborhood, a neighborhood where no crime seems to be happening up until I start to hear screams. I didn't really think much of it since it really isn't my problem, but as I get closer I realize it's a kid.
I wanted to drive away, to leave them, it wasn't my business, but the child was defenseless. I cursed at myself for being so caring before turning off my car and running towards the kid.
Since I really don't want anything or anyone to hold me back from what I'm trying to accomplish tonight, I carry the child to the rooftop of a place that seems to be safe and leave him there. I know it was a dickbag move to leave a child alone by themselves on purge day, but I simply didn't want baggage. Helping the child to safety was already doing too much.
I make my way back to my car but as I'm coming down the stairs, I notice someone running away from my car. I quickly run after them but since I was already too far behind them, they managed to escape. I head back to my car and quickly check if nothing was damaged before turning on the ignition and driving off again.
I only manage to make it a couple of blocks until my car magically decided to completely shut off. I instantly knew that this was the handiwork of the person whom I saw run away from my car. I sit in my car for a little contemplating my life for a moment before finally deciding to take all my valuables and my guns out and abandoned my car.
This night is going to be a long night if I'm going to be traveling by foot. Like the announcement before commencement says, "May God be with us all."
I manage to survive a whole hour without running into someone, or so I thought. For some unknown reason, I have blood on my hands and my clothing. I know for a fact that I haven't ran into anyone, so how in the world do I have blood on me? I start to trace my steps from the past hour and now that I think about it, my memories do seem a little off which makes me get some sort of eerie feeling.
I keep on walking until I find an abandoned place and manage to go in. I quickly look around the place to see if anyone was around and since I found no one I manage to settle down and recollect my thoughts. There are some instances where I remember I'm in one place and then I manage to be at a different place without knowing how I got there. I check to see if any of my ammo and knives are out of place and to no surprise I was missing some bullets and one of my knives was bloody.
I sat down on the floor and tried my best to remember what happened but the harder I tried to remember, the more impossible it seemed. I put my hands on my head and groaned in aggravation, I hated not remembering things.
I closed my eyes and started to count to ten in order to stop me from crying from how mad I was. When I finally reached to ten, I opened my eyes and noticed myself staring back at me, or so I thought. This other me did in fact look like me, but he had no color to his skin. His eyes, black as night with glowing red pupils. He smiled at me which sent chills down my spine...
"Hi Mark. I know I look like you, but I'm not you. I'm a better version of you. I'm Darkiplier."
