9:30 p.m.
*********
Her lungs burned; vocal chords straining as she screamed for the thousandth time in those mere few minutes. Minutes that would embark wounds and torments in her aching flesh for the rest of her life.
Camila felt like she was on fire, being set aflame internally and then to creep upon her frame externally. Every touch of the masked male's finger and every whisper of threats that he made against her smooth skin burned her; making lacerations that were more scarring than getting burned on a hot stove.
"Please...please" Her voice was weak and frail as the man curled his fingers inside of her puckered hole. The Latina had long stopped screaming when knowing in her heart that no one would attempt to help her on this night. "You've taken a lot from me this night. Please j-just spare me m-mercy and kill me quickly."
The man peered up from her bruised neck and his uncovered eyes board into her own. An unknown glint shone in his ocean blue eyes but it lasted for only a second before he released a gut wrenching laugh.
"You don't make the rules here, princess," The caucasian man seethed, pushing her body deeper into the metal wires of the gate and Camila winced as she felt her clothes being torn along with scratches forming from the impact on the small of her back. "It's my right as an American to release any source of pent up anger that's inside of me. You nor anyone can take that from me, bitch."
She doesn't know if it was the rage of being violated and called such a vulgar name but somehow she mustered up the strength to free her hand from his constraint and tug on the piece of broken metal wire from above her. It finally broke free and she stabbed the man in his left eye. He screamed in agony as he released her to clutch onto his injured eye. Karla managed to kick him hard in the groin and took this opportunity to get away from her tormentor. However, it was easier said than done as one step knocked her to the ground due to the wounds he had given her from earlier. It burned like hell to move, let alone run, but she hoisted herself up in sheer instinct of survival and trekked down the narrow alleyway.
She was almost there, almost to the dim lights of the streets when a piercing pain resulted in her plummeting to the ground; her face meeting the cold surface of the earth. She peered behind her to see blood gushing out of her calf and noted that the source of the puncture was from a metal bullet that was lodged deeply underneath the surface of her skin. She saw the masked man saunters towards her in small strides with a rifle in hand. The brunette attempted to crawl away, hands and knees burning as they scraped against the pavement. But her actions were ceased by the man's foot stepping on her fresh wound.
He laughed maniacally making the young female sob in fear, pain, and loss. She wanted nothing more than to be dead at this moment, to once again be reunited with her deceased parents and friend.
"This is my right."
Were the words that he triumphantly repeated as a whisper at first before gradually getting louder after each chant. He cocked his gun one last time before pressing the barrel against Camila's skull. She closed her eyes shut knowing what would come next and she silently prayed that it would all end fast and that she would be relieved of the beast that is not her presumed murderer but this country and the politicians that run it.
"This is my right."
She inhaled and exhaled one last time when she heard the sound of a gun go off and she screeched; hands flying up in the air. But, she realized that she was still alive, not killed by the latter.
"Fuck your rights." A feminine voice stated, causing Camila to look up at the person before her.
The raven haired woman was beautiful; ethereal. She owned voluminous dark tresses that disobediently fell back on her face after she attempted to push them back in their desired place and a strong jawline that highlighted her facial features. She was attired in black denim jeans with a bulletproof vest and black combat boots. However, Camila's favorite feature about the woman was her emerald orbs. She wasn't particularly a fan of the color but she didn't seem to mind them in the latter's irises.
She peered down at Camila, her expression hardened into a scowl, and put out a hand to help her stand on her feet. Using her good leg and the stranger's hand, Camila got to her feet with a pained grunt. The green eyed woman put an arm around her waist and helped her limp farther away from the dead man who'd recently assaulted her.
"Thank you." Camila muttered, barely audible. The woman grunted, helping her lean against a brick wall and signaled for her to wait. Camila watched in confusion as she stalked back to the lonesome 'Lexus' in the middle of the street. "Hey, wait! Where are you going?"
The green eyed woman didn't respond. Instead she reached for a rock, slamming it against the car window of the Lexus without flinching and watched as the glass shattered around her forearm. She moved away any excess glass and began rummaging inside of it. She pulled out a shirt, ripping and tearing at it for a moment before approaching Camila again. "This might hurt."
It was barely above a whisper, but Camila was completely mesmerized by her voice. It put her in a trance for a moment, but not deep enough for her to be immune to the pain of the stranger tightly wrapping the cloth around her bleeding calf repeatedly. "Shit!"
She squeezed her eyes closed as the woman only seemed to tighten it. In an attempt to deflect the pain, Camila cleared her throat, her voices coming out gravelly as she spoke. "S-so what's your name?" The green eyed woman tied the cloth then, and Camila took in a deep breath, tears pricking at the corner of her eyes.
"Lauren."
Camila looked at her, wanting to thank her again for helping her with her wound, but her breath caught in her throat as Lauren looked her straight in the eyes. Her green orbs were absolutely captivating. She waited for a smile, a smirk maybe, but the scowl remained on the green eyed woman's face, even after they'd finally broken their staring contest.
"T-" She began to speak but the raven haired female averted herself away from her and walked away, leaving a dumbfounded Camila leaning against the stone wall for support. "Wait! Where are you going?"
Lauren halted in her tracks, hand already curled around the door handle of her own car as she turned around to meet those scared brown eyes.
"Listen, I came out here to help you get away from that person but don't take my actions as an invitation. I'm not looking for a plus one tonight."
"Please, I don't know what to do. My best friend was just m-murdered in front of me." Sobs threatened to rake through her petite frame as she thought about Charlotte and the lifeless look in her eyes when her captor ended her life.
Lauren shook her head as she opened her car door, reaching inside to grab a spare pistol out of the passenger seat. "Sorry. I can't help you." She cocked the pistol, making sure it was loaded before holding it out to Camila. "This is all I can do for you."
Camila was nearly shaking as she attempted to hold in her whimpers. "I-I don't even know how to shoot a gun! I can't defend myself, a-and my leg-"
"Another body will only slow me down. I'm sorry to leave you out here, but I ride solo." She slid into the driver seat of the Lexus as Camila limped closer to the car, her pleading and cries getting louder and louder.
Lauren was tempted to drive off. Something was telling her to go, right then and there. This girl's loud cries we're going to attract attention. They'd be an easy target. Still she couldn't find it in her to just drive off.
"Fine, fine! You can get in the car if you shut the hell up. I'll take you to a safe spot, but that's it. Just shut up, sheesh."
-
"Khalid?" Normani questioned, her confusion evident by her raised, knitted eyebrows. Why exactly would he be out here at this time of the night when the killings would reach its peak?
The speaker was on, her voice lingering in the air as the male looked around before settling his eyes on the camera that was rested on top of the door frame.
"Mani," The ebony singer stared straight into the lens with eyes filled with fear. "Please...help me." His pleads became inaudible, as Normani looked up to see Dinah turning the speaker off.
"Dinah," The dark haired woman began while stepping in front of her bodyguard. "We need to let him in."
"Are you fucking crazy, Normani." The Polynesian scoffed, waving her hand as a signal for the other remaining soldiers to exit the room. "We don't know his intentions." She spoke once again after the door shut behind them.
"He would never harm me, Dinah. He's my best friend."
"I don't give a fuck if he was your grandmother." The blonde grimaced, shaking her head. "It seems too risky. I don't know why but none of this is adding up. He's a celebrity which doesn't make sense as to why he isn't as heavily as guarded as you are."
Normani brought a hand up to hastily whip her hair out of her face, a deep frown etched into her features. "That's exactly why we need to help him! Who knows, maybe he was heavily guarded and yet, his guards couldn't help him. Someone could be after him right now, Dinah, we have to help him! He's my best friend!"
Dinah ran a hand over her own face roughly, wanting to object again, but knowing better. Normani always won their arguments and this would be no exception. Khalid couldn't have any worse intentions than to find safe shelter, right?
Without further thought, the war veteran pulled out her walkie talkie, radioing the guards around the perimeter to let the man in.
Normani let out a relieved sigh, leaning against her "lover's" side as she watched two guards help Khalid limp past the gates and inside. "Thank you, baby. You have no idea how much better it would be to have Khalid by my side when you need to leave."
"Lets just hope that we made the right decision."
The two women exited the room, descending the staircase to be then welcomed into the living room where Khalid sat; surrounded by their armed soldiers. A blanket was draped across his shoulders, but it slipped to the ground as he shot u p to greet Normani with a hug. Two soldiers grabbed his arms to keep him from getting too close.
"It's okay," Normani dismissed with a wave of her hand. "Let him go."
The two guards reluctantly released the injured man but as soon as they did, Normani was engulfed in a tight hug. She smiled as she felt his nose snuggle in the crevice of her neck and the assuring squeeze that cleared her doubtful thoughts. She had made the right choice.
The hug was prolonged, too intense for Dinah's liking. The way the male singer tightly held the female with his face dug deep in her neck and the way his hand ran up the base of her spine to the curve of her back made the young guard's jaw clench. It was a sort of intimacy that only herself should crave from the ebony female.
"So," Dinah cleared her throat; her voice stern, resulting in the two friends to depart from one another. "Do you care to tell us why exactly you were alone during this dreadful 'holiday'?"
Khalid cleared his throat, straightening his posture as he looked Dinah straight in the eye. "I figured staying with a... friend with more security than myself would be the safest option. But you know how far I live from here and... my car broke down. I thought I could make it, but then I was being chased..."
Dinah nodded her head in acknowledgment of his words but she still couldn't seem to wrap her head around believing him. She didn't know if it was out of pure alert and concern for Normani or if it was the envy she felt when seeing Khalid's hand glide down the small of the young dancer's back.
"You went out alone? Without any sort of security to back you up?" She pressed on, noting the look of annoyance in Normani's expression and the surprisingly tranquil face of the male.
Khalid only nodded, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. "It was still lights out when I left. It shouldn't have taken too long, but after my car broke down..."
"But after your car broke down what?"
Normani sent the blonde Polynesian another glare, reaching out to grab Khalid's forearm. "Don't mind her, Khalid. She's just being extremely overprotective." She annunciations the word overly as a warning to the blonde Polynesian to stop pressing.
"Which is my job." Dinah narrowed her eyes at the girl. "Especially on a night such as tonight."
"I don't blame her. I mean you are the Normani Kordei." Khalid spoke, suppressing a nervous laugh. "Tell me girl, how many grammys have you won in a one year span?"
"Only three," The brunette shrugged in a humble matter, used to Khalid's playful banter. "But not without your help of course. Couldn't have done it without my best friend. You should be as safe as I."
"Thank you, Normani. I really don't know what I would do without you."
"No problem, love. That's what best friends and hitmakers are for." She lightly punched him in the arm for her share of their playful banter and urged him to take a seat on the couch. "Now, make yourself comfortable, I'll go make us all some coffee."
The ebony woman walked out of the room not before sparing the polynesian a longing glance filled of annoyance but also gratitude. Dinah merely sent her a small smile before resting her head against the wall, watching the male whom watched the active purgers on the news channel's broadcast.
This was going to be a long night.
-
Ally huffed, her short legs pumping as she made her way to her garage door where the metal chambers of her security system ascended; the whirring noises gaining the young male's attention.
The man called out to someone from behind him and Ally couldn't make out exactly who it was before a frantic, dark skinned woman came into view and they both charged their way towards the open garage door. The security system began its 15 second timer and the small latina urged the duo to hurry up.
10...
The pair was almost there, feet hitting the pavement as they continued to run.
9...
"Come on, hurry, before the timer runs out!" Ally yelled out to them, her heart beating out of her chest as she glanced around for any tag along purgers that may have been following the duo.
8...
The female companion of the male fell into a limp, chest heaving as they continued to move forward, a little bit slower than before.
7...
His hand wrapped around her waist, aiding her to move forward while peering behind them in alert.
6...
The chamber was halfway down.
5...
He pushed the dark haired woman into a steady speed in front of him.
4...
The metal chamber was almost down.
3...
The girl crawled inside, quickly peering out to give her hand to the male.
2...
"Come on!" The two women yelled in unison, hands outreached as the chamber was nearly closed and the boy kept running; feet pounding into the earth's surface.
1...
He grabbed their hands and slid under, the metal chamber closing behind him.
The clank of the metal hitting the dirt ground gave Ally a somewhat feeling of relief. She watched as the light skinned male moved to grasp the dark skinned female into a tight hold, caressing her puffy cheeks before placing a longing kiss against her full lips. The display of affection between the two radiated warmth in Ally's heart as she was proud to know that she saved someone that night, two people in fact, as that was the purpose of her occupation. Even with a broken arm.
"Thank you," The brunette woman sighed shakily, having parted from who Ally assumed was her boyfriend and taken one of Ally's hands. "You have no idea how grateful we are. We were so unprepared."
Ally smiled, resting her other hand upon the girl's while wincing due to the cast that was wrapped snugly around it.
"It's okay. You're safe here." She reassured the two who now had relaxed expressions. "My name is Allyson but I go by Ally."
"I'm Ryan and this is Quincy." The woman, Ryan, introduced them both.
"We managed to get any masked purgers off of our tail before we came here. Didn't want anybody trying to find another way in." Ryan said dizzily.
"Ryan, dios mio (oh my god)!" Ally grew alert, pointing at the pool of blood that began forming around the ebony woman's white tank top.
"Baby," Quincy began, pupils dilating at the sight of his injured girlfriend. "When did this happen?"
"It was when they first raided us and we managed to get out but one of the masked women slashed me with the machete she had."
"Well, we need to get you fixed up." The short Latina proclaimed, while helping Quincy stand the girl to her feet.
Ryan adamantly tried to walk, wincing at each step and nearly toppling over after a while. Her lover took this as a signal to hoist her up, carrying the dark skinned woman bridal style.
Ally, frowning, motioned for Quincy to follow her down a hallway where Ryan could rest and she could treat their wounds.
Once they'd finally gotten the girl in a comfortable spot laying on her back, Ally went to grab a kit and Quincy lifted the girl's tank top, Ryan hissing as it rubbed against her wound. Ally's frown deepened as she took a look at the deep cut. "Oh god. This is bad."
"What are we going to do?" Quincy panicked hands proceeding to rub soothing circles on one of the dark skinned woman's exposed shoulder blades.
Allyson rummaged through her bag before retrieving her clamp. "The blade cut her pretty deep but we can't get any medical attention right now for the thorough stitching evaluation so we're just going to have to clamp it together."
Ryan breathed in and out, her right hand clamping her boyfriend's own as he knelt beside her. "O-okay let-s do it."
The dirty blonde volunteer nodded, grabbing her supplies and placed it on the stand beside her as she took a seat next to the wounded girl. She picked up the rubbing alcohol from beside her and opened it before pouring some on the cloth she held. "This is going to hurt a little bit."
Ally took the cloth, dabbing it lightly on the wound as the girl winced; straining her body against the touch. Quincy felt hit heart ping at the sight of his distressed girlfriend, he hated that this was something he couldn't save her from. The short Latina continued to clean the wound, stopping every now and then to make sure Ryan hadn't fainted from the pressure. After a few more run overs, the wound was ready to be clamped together with the small, medical staples.
Ally grabbed ahold of a clean towel. "Here, take this." She placed it in the ebony woman's hand. "The procedure will be quick but without any anesthetic, you will feel all of its pain. Use this to bite down on rather than your lips."
Ryan nodded in thanks before settling the cloth in between her teeth, sending Ally an expression to proceed while further gripping Quincy's hand. Ally picked up the clamp and saw Ryan's eyes widen in fear.
"On a count of three." Ally spoke, hoping to prepare the girl for what's to come but also to reassure herself as her anxiety was through the roof.
"1..."
Ryan's grip on Quincy's hand tightened, eyes squeezed shut tightly as she prepared for the pain.
"2..."
The brown skinned brunette could barely catch her breath as she prepared for the pain to come. The wound was already painful enough and her brain couldn't wrap around feeling pain worse than what she was already feeling.
"1..."
She closed her eyes and inhaled before feeling the cold clamp touch her heated skin.
"Aah...Fuck." Her screams were muffled against the towel that was wedged between her teeth and tears began to venture down her eyes while Quincy proceeding to place kisses along her forehead; whispering sweet nothing as the sections of the wound were becoming intact.
"Almost done." Ally stated while seeing that she was nearly done clamping up the area, peering down to see the metal pieces gracing the dark skinned woman's skin.
Ryan let out another hoarse cry, unable to hold it back as she attempted to stay still so Ally could finish.
"And done! You did great love, so great." Ally smiled sadly at her, hating to see the tears streaming down the woman's face.
Ryan smiled in relief, obtaining another kiss from the male and thanked Ally once again. Ally and Quincy moved the girl to a sitting position, proceeding with caution to not harm her anymore as they aided in wrapping a bandage along her abdomen of where she had been cut.
"Thank you, Ally. I don't know what I would do with myself if I lost her." Quincy spoke to Ally once observing that Ryan was fine and in better health than before.
"No problem. We all made a good team."
