Chapter 3 ~Dakota~

A/N Hello! I am super into this story right now so here's another part. BTW just imagine the picture about except with blue eyes, little white flecks all over, and a bright green collar. Three?!!? music vids today. :)

My parents were still at work when I got home so I just decided to hang out. I sat down on the couch and watched The Series of Unfortunate Events. About an hour later I decided to call my mom.

(Y= you/M= mom)

*Ring Ring*

M: Hey sweetheart! How's the job hunting going?

Y: Terrific! Guess what?!

M: You found a job?

Y: Yeah!!!!

M: Yay! I'll go and call the real estate agent. We can move all of your stuff into the new house tonight. Ooo! I'm just so excited!! Okay, I gotta go. See ya later girly!

Y: Bye, mom!

*End of call*

I still don't know how I'm going to tell her where I am working, though. Cause I'm pretty sure you don't want to just go up to your mother and say "Hi mom! I got a new job! I work at an insane asylum now!"

Oh well

Time Skip (Brought to you by the random thoughts that I get)

We had just finished up dinner and my aunt, uncle, and best friend just showed up to help move. We had already taken over my bed, dresser, and a few food items. I was packing up all of my clothes from my closet and my mom was packing up my bathroom stuff. My dad and the rest of them were hauling boxes out to my truck.

I don't have a bunch of stuff, mostly because the house came with a bunch of the necessary things like a fridge and laundry machines.

About 30 minutes later we had everything hauled out to my truck. We also had some boxes in my dad's truck because we had like five boxes that wouldn't fit.

My mom decided to squish in with me and we talked on the way there. Then came the dreaded question.

"So, you said you had a job," she paused, "What are you working as?"

"Well um. I'm a night guard." I took a deep breath and didn't take my eyes off of the road. "At the California Mental Institution." I looked over at her for the first time since she had asked the question.

She looked stunned. "Are you sure this is what you want? I'm sure I could find you another job."

"Mom. I. Will. Be. Fine. Stop worrying. If it makes you feel better, I will call you when I'm going to start my shift, and when it ends. Okay?" She looked a bit more relaxed.

"That would be great, Hun."

"But just so you know, my first shift tomorrow is from 10:30 to 3:30 okay? So don't yell at me when I wake you up to tell you to stop worrying." My mom laughed at that.

"Well, you have always been a bit of a night owl. It will suit you well."

We pulled into my new driveway. My new house was not huge, but it wasn't tiny either. It had 2 regular bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 master bedroom, 1 master bath, a living room, a kitchen, a laundry room that was connected to a mud room (it's basically where you put all of your coats and shoes when you come in.) and an office.

It was a blue-gray color on the outside with white trim. Encircling the house were some white, gray, and black rocks that went up about 2 ft. then stopped for the rest of the blue-gray main color. It had a bunch of trees around the outside and the grass was a beautiful bright green. It was beautifully landscaped, and we already had set up for the lawn guys to come and pull weeds, mow the lawn, and stuff like that every week on Tuesday. The house also had huge windows. That was my favorite part. When the guys came on Tuesday they would wash the outside but all of the cleanings inside was my problem.

When you walk in the front door you walk into this little area that connects to the living room. Immediately when you walk in the door if you turn to your right, there are stairs leading up to the master bedroom, master bath, the office, and a bedroom and another bathroom.

Downstairs across from the living room is the kitchen. It had an island that separated the two rooms. The kitchen was one of my favorite parts. It was big, and not to mention had lots of cabinets to hid my cookies and popcorn in. In the dining room/kitchen, there are two sliding glass doors.

If you walk through the kitchen about halfway you can go out a door that leads to a garage. There is a little entryway around the door that houses the mud room and the washer and dryer. There is also another door In the entry way that leads to the bathroom. If you keep walking through the kitchen you will come across a door that leads to the last bedroom.

Throughout the house, the main wallpaper coloring is a tannish brown, with white crown molding. The carpet was an off white that has flecks of brown in it. My bedroom (the master bed and bath) had hardwood flooring that was a tan gray with darker accents, but the walls were a darkish bluish green color.

The hardwood flooring was also in the kitchen, mudroom, every bathroom, and when you walk in the front door. The rest was carpet. Luckily, both the carpet and wood are really easy to clean.

(Tired of descriptions yet?)

We finished bringing my boxes in and everyone said their goodbyes before going home. We had already set up my bed so I went to the bathroom and washed my face. After putting on a baggy shirt and shorts, I crawled into bed. It feels so nice to be in my own house...

Time Skip (Brought by way too much description?)

I woke up to the sunshine shining through my window. I stretched. I guess I better get up.

I rolled out of my bed and went downstairs. I had already bought some cereal so I put that in a bowl and sat down to eat. I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude knowing that I had my own house.  I better start unpacking.

I got up and washed out my bowl, putting it away in my cupboard. Might as well start with the kitchen.  My parents had taken me shopping the week before to get all of my dishes and supplies. I emptied out my bowls, plates, and all of my other cooking necessities.

I then walked over to the living room where my new couch, coffee table, TV, and TV stand needed to be arranged. I put the largest couch up against the wall with the three windows. The love seat was placed so that its back was facing the kitchen. My couches were dark brown leather couches that were as fluffy as pillows. I loved them. The TV stand was also dark brown and would be home to many gaming consoles when I got them. That took care of the places that any visitors would see. I decided the next important things were the bathrooms, so I ran to each of them putting in my towels, soap, and the shower curtains because they were all full baths, not half.

When I finished with those few rooms it was 1 pm. I went up to my room and dug through the box with my clothes in it. I decided on wearing a simple knee length dress. It was F/C with a decorative black belt.

I went to my new bathroom and hopped in the shower. When I got out I slipped on the dress and belt. For my makeup, I just did a simple winged eyeliner style and some mascara. I just left my hair down and curled some waves into it. (Once again, sorry. Do anything you like with it)

I walked out of my house locking the door behind me. I got in my truck to drive to Burger King for lunch. Once there I got F/F and sat down. As I ate I looked through my phone, I found an add for a rescue puppy. It caught my attention so I paused to look at it.

The add was for an abused rescue puppy. It was rescued along with many other puppies and dogs from a puppy mill. This was one of the few worst condition animals. The reason this puppy mill was shut down is 1. It's a fucking puppy mill, and 2. They were breeding wolves with German shepherds. Many people were pissed off about it, so the police finally did something about it.

This puppy was also a female, named Dakota. She was a German shepherd Canadian wolf mix, though they said they had found traces of Siberian husky in her as well. She was a very dark gray with black legs. Around her facial features, she also became a black color. Her eyes were a piercing ice blue, and her fur had flecks of white in it. Her nose was black and her tongue was a blue color, confirming she was part husky. That means she would be able to learn simple phrases. I thought to myself.

The more I read about Dakota's story, the more I fell in love with her. Stop it! You don't need a dog. You JUST moved into a new house. You've already got enough shit to deal with. I went to call my mom.

(Y= you M= mom)

Y: Hey mom!

M: Hey! Are you okay? Did you need anything?

Y: Um. Yeah. I was wondering if you think that it would be okay to get a dog.

M: Well it's your choice. I think it would be great. You would have to find a pretty independent dog, but I think it would be good to keep you company. At least until you, y'know, find somebody to spend your days with.

Y: Mom?

M: Yeah?

Y: No. Just. STOP.

M: Okay, well I gotta go. Bye, Y/N!

*End of call*

Fuck it. I dialed the phone number from the ad and asked if Dakota was still available. (Yes another phone call.)

(Y= you F= front desk lady)

*Ring Ring*

F: Hello! This is Happy Paws animal rescue! How may I help you?

Y: Um. Yeah. Hi! My name is Y/N and I was wondering if Dakota was still available? I saw an ad on the internet and decided to call.

F: Oh yes! She is! So you want to adopt?

Y: Yes.

F: Okay, so we want you to come in so we can see if you would be a fit for her and to fill out some paperwork, so when are you next available?

I checked the time. 2:30.

Y: Um, how long would this take?

F: Most likely like 45 minutes to an hour.

Y: Would it be okay if I came over right now.

F: Oh yes! Yes! Yes! YES!

Y: Okay, I will be there in about, uh, 10 minutes?

F: Okay! See you soon!

*End of call*

I left the restaurant and walked to my truck, driving to the rescue center.

Time Skip (Brought by me being lazy)

I walked into the office and the front desk lady showed me to Dakota. As soon as I saw her I knew that I couldn't NOT adopt her.

After filling out a shit load of useless paperwork, I walked out with my new puppy, Dakota. The people working at the center were stunned when Dakota wasn't shy towards me. That's when I knew that I had to have her.

I drove to the pet store. I took out Dakota and held her as I walked in.

"Holy crap girly, you are heavy for a 6 mo old puppy!" When I walked through the doors I went to the pet collars. I picked out a bright green puppy collar because I thought the color went well with her black fur and blue eyes. (Anyone recognize the color coordination?)

I picked out a black leash and went to get a name tag. When I finished I went over to the pet bowls. I had gotten a basket by this time and was pushing Dakota around like a baby. I picked out a large mint green bowl for her food and a large black bowl for her water.

I finished off with a giant dog cage to put her in when I am gone. I paid for everything and went out to my truck. I set Dakota on the passenger seat and slipped on her collar.

"Oh. My. God. You look so cute!!!" I got in and drove back to my house. It was about 4 o'clock by now.

I put everything out for Dakota and flopped down on the couch. I had no motivation to do anything. I turned YouTube on on my TV and Dakota hopped up onto my lap.

"Hey, Kota." That's kinda cute. "Should that be your nickname?" Dakota started licking my face.

"I'll take that as a yes." I smiled snuggling down into a blanket with her. I started dozing off.

Little Bit of a Time Skip (Brought by Naps)

When I woke up Dakota was snuggled up on my chest. I looked at my phone which was charging. 6 o'clock.

"Hey, Kota. Hey. Wake up!" Dakota raised her head, still looking sleepy. "You must be hungry. Let's go get you some food."

I stood up and walked to the kitchen. I got out the puppy food I had gotten earlier and poured some into her bowl. I also filled up her water bowl. After I was content with her dinner I walked over to my counter thinking. I literally don't have any groceries, so I guess we'll cook some cup o' noodle.

I had just sat down to eat when Dakota had come back over to me. She sat down by my feet.

"Done already girl?"She barked in response. "Okay, let me eat, and then we will go play."

I finished eating and it was 7:30. I have about two and a half hours before I need to get ready.

I went and sat on the ground in the middle of my living room. Dakota and I played tug of war and we rough housed until it was 9:30. Dakota sluggishly ran up the stairs behind me. She was exhausted. Hopefully, she will sleep the whole time I'm gone. Then she won't be so lonely.

I changed into some black leggings and an F/C long sleeve shirt with a stripe on each sleeve and at the bottom of the shirt. I put my hair in a ponytail and slipped on some socks and my Adidas shoes. Well. They are a knock-off brand, but just let me live my dream!!

I looked at the clock. 10 o'clock. I went downstairs and let Dakota out into the fenced in yard to do her business. She came back in and I showed her to her cage. I had put down a blanket in the corner for her.

"See ya soon Kota." I kissed her head and walked out into the garage to get into my truck. I texted my mom telling her that I was heading off, and drove to my new workplace.

Here goes nothing. I thought to myself.

A/N And another chapter is out. This one was huge. I was planning on introducing you to your new job in this, then I had the idea for Dakota, and yea, this happened.
