I woke up the next morning at 6:30 and forced myself out of bed. I went and showered. For clothes, I decided to wear a black and white flannel, with a white tank top under it. I put on some black jeans and my black converse. I would've worn ripped jeans but I thought that might not give a very good first impression.
I put my H/C into a french braid before putting on mascara, winged eyeliner, and just for the hell of it red lipstick.
I crashed down the stairs and grabbed a piece of toast my mom had made. "Bye, mom!" I yelled while I ran out the front door getting into my dark blue truck. I turned it on and started driving.
The first place I wanted to go was just outside of town. As I got closer I got even more uneasy. It's fine. Everything is alright. Just. BREATHE. I pulled into the parking lot of a massive building. Well, I call it a parking lot, but it was really the driveway. I pulled up to the gate. I held my breathe as an officer came up to my truck.
"Hello, ma'am. May I see your identification?" He seemed sweet, but he was really fucking muscular. I do NOT want to get on his bad side...
"Um. Hi. My name is Y/N L/N. I actually don't have any identification. I was actually wondering if there were any openings for work?" I was absolutely terrified. This WAS the most secure buildings in the entire world. Why? Well, it is an insane asylum. The best in the world to be exact.
The man turned to one of the other guards at the gate. "Toby, can you hand me that clipboard right there?" He pointed to a clipboard and then held out his hand. The man who I think was called Toby came over.
The guard took it and started flipping through the pages. I couldn't help but wonder what it said. He stopped on one page and his face went a bit pale. "Um. T-there. There is. But I'm not sure that you want to even consider," He paused, "But if you are up for a challenge, and don't mind being scarred for life, or even considered insane, then I can take you to my boss."
I thought for a moment. What could be so terrible? I was confused. Then I reminded myself that this WAS an insane asylum. I looked back up to the man. "I'm up for it." I smiled.
"Okay, then ma-" he corrected himself, "Y/N. Would you mind parking your vehicle over there, and then follow me?" I did as I was told and hopped out. I walked over to him and noticed he was talking to his co-workers.
I cleared my throat. The main security guard looked up at me. "Okay, miss Y/N, follow me. We walked over to a rather large building. It had lots of windows and I could tell it was where most of the security related stuff was, as well as the boss.
"Is it okay if I ask for your name?" I sped up to walk beside the man.
"Walker. Ty Walker. But I would prefer officer Walker or sir." He didn't even glance at me as he said this.
We got to the building and Ty opened the door for me. "After you," I walked in and looked up at the high ceiling.
"Follow me," Ty walked towards an elevator. We went up to the top floor and stopped at two big doors.
I waited outside while Ty walked in. I heard quiet murmurs as they talked. Finally, Ty poked his head out the door and told me to come in. He walked out to where I assume was back to the main gate.
"Hello! You must be Y/N L/N. Here take a seat." I sat down. "My name is Cody Micheals. Now, Officer Walker informed me that you wanted to work here. Am I correct?"
"Yes."
"Okay, do you know what you are getting into?"
"Not yet."
"Well, then we have a bit of explaining to do." He smiled at me.
"Here at California Mental Institution, we have some of the most dangerous," Cody hesitated, "Psychopaths, in the world. Whether it be counterparts, or people, everyone more dangerous than the last. You would be working as the night shift guard for some of our patients. There will most likely be only two or three that you would switch between, depending on where you are needed. Don't let that deceive you though. You will be here every night. Unless you want Sundays off. If needed you will be able to have Saturdays off as well." He then proceeded to tell me about some of the patients' states of mind.

"There is a reason we have an opening 99% of the time, miss L/N. These patients drive people to insanity. Now. Answer a few questions honestly for me. Don't lie. It will only hurt you if you do. First, how old are you?"
"25."
"Previous job experience?"
"None."
"Any schooling other than the required years?"
"Yes."
"What field?"
"Veterinary." He looked up from where he was filling out a paper.
"How did you graduate so soon?"
"My birthday is in June." (Too bad if it isn't. For story purposes, it has to be.) "Which means that technically I graduated at 17, even thought in just a couple more days I would have been 18. I started college the week after I was done with high school. Not to mention I am a quick learner so I passed almost every exam with an A."
"Impressive. Now, this last one we need to check your mental stability. So if you would just follow me." He stood up and walked to a room down the hall while I followed.
I sat down in a chair and was told just to sit still and concentrate on the music. That won't be a problem. I laughed to myself.
After about 15 minutes we were done. I followed Cody back to his office and we sat down. He looked through some papers.
"Do you need my resume?"
"No."
I sat quietly for a moment. "Congratulations miss L/N. You have the job if you still want it."
"Yes, sir. I do very much."
"Well great! We will start you off at just 5 hours a day- NIGHT," he corrected himself. "So, I want you here at 10:30 pm. You will leave at 3:30 am the next day. By the way, did I mention that you are starting tomorrow?"
"What do I wear?"
"Almost anything. You do work a night shift so we don't really have a super specific dress code for you. Just don't wear ripped jeans, crop tops, or shorts. We would prefer to have you in something that at least goes to your knees and something that covers your stomach. We don't care if you show your shoulders, just not too much. Okay?"
"That is great sir! Thank you!" He handed me a card, which had a picture of me on it, my name and what my job was. We took a photo after the mental test. When we finished I walked back to my truck and drove off. It was only 12 in the afternoon. Shit, I was in there a long time...
I went and got food and then went home. It felt like I had been run through a ringer. I was exhausted.
A/N Holy crap guys. I really wanted to write more today, but now I feel exhausted but I really wanna write more. I don't know. We'll see. I can't wait to introduce you to our patients.
Hey. Hey, you.
What did the doctor say when the day got really slow but busy at the same time?
"AH!! I'm running out of patients!!!!!"
Lol, I had to. Okay bye!
