Week One

"Xavier Burnley is in cubicle 241." Monica briefed me as we walked. "He is a mess, be prepared for your worst."

"I've done this before." I encouraged myself. We stopped before a metallic door which said 241. She took out a bunch of keys and unlocked it.

She shrugged and closed the door behind me. The cubicle was a disaster. The walls and the floor had scratches everywhere, and made me feel sick.

I took in a deep breath and saw Xavier.

Breathtaking.

His blue eyes searched the walls, and then met mine. His golden brown hair was tangled, and he eyed me weirdly.

"Go back, Angela." He said in his husky voice, from the floor.

How did he know my name? Maybe Monica had enlightened him about me.

I took my seat in front of him, and he began to shake his head.

"No, he's coming for you. Stay away!" He warned. "He's right behind you now."

"There is no one behind me." I stated. "Now, enlighten me about the whispers."

"Monica told you?" He bit his lip and looked away. "They are telling me to hurt you right now."

"Describe what you see and hear."

He shook his head.

"Oh." I meekly nodded. I passed him a pencil and a paper. I bent down to give it to him. "Draw me what you see around yourself."

Suddenly, he pulled me towards him, and before I could react, his lips crushed mine. He played with my curls and as his tongue slipped into my mouth, I wanted to do one thing my reflexes had taught me- slap him hard. Unfortunately he was one of my patients, and it wouldn't work on him. I pushed him away.

He winced. "He's gone."

"Of course he is." I found myself grinning. I picked up the pen and paper that had fallen from my hand, and scribbled hastily in my notepad: mood swings, whispers, hallucinations.

While I wrote, he stared at me from the floor. I stood up to leave.

"Never come back." He whispered. "I won't always help. Today I'm feeling higher than usual."

"See you next week." I smiled at him, and he turned his gaze away. "Remember, one visit each month and then a final report. I don't want to hand you over to a psychiatrist and trust me, nor do you. So bear with me, and let these ten months pass in peace."

"Peace?" He laughed satirically. "That's something I want too."

"It's something nobody gets in life." I replied, and walked out of the room.
