~ Magic ~

Ancient Ones - Magical beings that have "crossed the veil" and no longer live physically on Earth. They live in another realm. The Divine Couple has chosen these specific spirits as being worthy to be an Ancient One.

They are counselors and the ultimate authority when it comes to magical creatures living within the realm of Earth. They are the gatekeepers when someone wants to pull too much energy out of the D.E.

They have the power to draw from the DE to do with as they like, but they always strive for a balance.

They can do such things as grant people powers, intervene and perform "actions" in the physical realm. They can look out for people, and be seen as "spirits"; but to do so draws energy from the DE.

Asking the Ancient Ones to do small things - like levitation and object moving - doesn't take much from this pool, however bigger tasks performed by the Ancient Ones will pull more energy, i.e. bigger tasks require more energy.

Granting people special powers requires quite a bit of energy. So they don't do it without a very good reason. Also the more living magical creatures with special powers the more potential for quicker drain on the energy pool.

The Chaban Crystal also pulls its magic directly from this energy pool.

Chaban Crystal - The Chaban Crystal is a stone found by a shepherd named Oleksander Chaban in the area now known as Ukraine. He was friends with the witches, and when he felt some kind of power emanating from the stone he found, he took it to his friends. It ends up that inside this "stone" was an unusual crystal made of emerald but resembling a geode.

It was found that the Chaban Crystal was a crystal with immense power - not only as a power source, but also as something that could enhance magic. It is also one of eight crystals that are a direct link to the Dexameni Energeias. A local Seer told the group leaving the area to find a safe haven to take the crystal with them.

As thanks for discovering the crystal, Oleksander Chaban was asked to go with the group looking for a safe haven. They allowed him, his family, and extended family to travel with them. This trip eventually led them to the area that would become the Avic Islands. [Oleksander Chaban is a 3rd Great-Grandfather of Dominic Young.]

The rebellion led by Frank Stormer tried to get the crystal during the Erbyn Revolt, but the crystal was moved to a nearby "hidden" island for safekeeping.

The rebellion couldn't find it at first.

With the increase in activity with the rebellion, the next generation of Protectors is trained to be brought to Everling to continue to protect the crystal.

Daggers of Hamingja - Special long daggers made by Lars Erik Westlin for his grandchildren, Ambrose, Alexander and Lysandra. Lars was an accomplished blacksmith, who made weapons especially for the People's Army.

Lars went to the Elders to have them instill magic into the daggers as extra protection for his grandchildren. They agreed because Lars had done great services for them and because his grandchildren were married or dating Protectors.

The Elders used his blood during the ceremony, so that the magic contained within the swords could only be someone who was a direct descendant of Lars.

After the deaths of Ambrose Westlin, Alexander Westlin and Lysandra Evans, the daggers were handed down to Tallulah James, Tanner Orson, and Michaela Price.

Dexameni Energeias - The Dexameni Energeias is a pool of energy within the universe for the use of magic. The pool can regenerate, but it is a slow process. It is theoretically possible to draw all energy from the pool before it can regenerate, therefore ending the use of magic.

The Elders - Magic users on the Avic Islands who govern what happens on the Avic Islands, including enforcing the laws regarding using magic on the Avic Islands.

There are 14 Elders on the Counsel. When a spot opens, members with magic nominate different people they'd like to be an Elder, but the Ancient Ones pick someone out of the nominees.

Elementalist - A person with the ability to perform elemental magic - to manipulate the elements - either earth, air, water or fire. Usually people only have the ability to manipulate one element, but in the last 30 years, more Elementalists are being granted/gifted with the ability to manipulate two elements.

Because the Ancient Ones want balance within the magic system - offspring inherit their elemental magic in the following ways:

When 1 parent is an Elementalist:

1st child will be whatever type of Elementalist that they are

Other children will most likely receive different Elemental abilities

When each parent is a different Elementalist:

1st child will likely receive father's Elemental ability - although not always (depends on balance at the time)

Other children will most likely receive different Elemental abilities

It is possible to receive 2 Elemental abilities - infrequent until last 30 - 40 years.

Foundation of Magic - When magic is used, energy is needed. It can come from the person or environment, but mostly it comes from the Dexameni Energeias or DE (Greek for pool of energy).

Guardian - Position created by the Elders with the permission from the Ancient Ones, to be the protectors of the Protectors.

Guardian - Why do they exist? - When the Elders saw the sacrifices made by the spouses of the Protectors during the Erbyn Revolt, they decided that there would be a need in the future for the Protectors to have someone by their side with special abilities of their own.

Magic users and humans can be chosen to be a Guardian.

Magic users and humans chosen to be a Guardian are gifted with elemental magic by the Ancient Ones through a ritual.

Healer - A magic user who specializes in the healing arts. This is done with plants, materials, gemstones and minerals, etc. and also some spells. On rare occasions, a Healer may possess special abilities/powers regarding healing such as energy medicine.

They also help preserve the history of healing, teach magic users about healing, and look for future ways to advance the healing arts (kind of like research).

Healers can however utilize the same magic used for spellcasting and have some abilities of a Seer, they just don't specialize in it.

Mageía - it is what the followers of Zoidrys called their witchcraft. [Mageía is actually the Greek word for magic and witchcraft.]

Magic Users - General term used by most people with magic capabilities to describe themselves. This includes Spellcasters, Healers, Seers and Elementalists.

Protector - Magic user or Elementalist who was chosen to protect the Chaban Crystal.

Protector History - First Protectors were chosen through the Trials to possess the qualities needed to protect the crystal.

The ability to be a Protector is passed down through direct bloodline. You cannot be a Protector if you are not directly related to an Original Protector. However, the person can choose to be or not to be a Protector. [Theon Greely chose not to be a Protector. Trinity Greely chose to be a Protector]

After Erbyn Revolt only people still able to be a Protector are Tallulah Westlin-James, Michaela Evans-Price, Tanner Westlin-Orson, Carleigh Severs-Bennett, Andrea Laforest-Scott, Ashlyn Greely and Tyler Greely. It became this way because either people within the direct line choose to leave the islands and eliminate the possibility of their children becoming Protectors or the ones that remained on the islands were wiped out during the Erbyn Revolt.

If the amount of people who choose to be a Protector drops below what the Elders need - a new Trials would be performed. They do not want this to happen because at the moment (2020) they are afraid Stormer Rebellion would interrupt a new Trials.

The Original Protectors and all other Protectors were gifted with additional powers from the Ancient Ones. Examples: telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, danger intuition - etc.

Seer - A magic user who specializes in "seeing" something specified - they have insight into events. They can have retrocognition (ability to see past events), but they always have precognition (ability to see future events). Just because a witch has retrocognition or precognition does not make them a Seer. Usually precognition is not seeing a full direct event, but seeing pieces or having dreams that must be interpreted.

A Seers precognition can change if a person chooses a different "path" when they make any future decisions.

Seers can be, and usually are, either a Spellcaster or Healer or combination to begin with.

Spellcaster - A magic user who specializes in casting spells. This is done with physical words - although some Spellcasters are advanced enough to say simpler spells in their heads and it works.

They also help preserve the history of spells, teach witches about spells and spellcasting, and look for future spells (kind of like research).

Spellcasters can however utilize the same magic used for the healing arts and have some abilities of a Seer, they just don't specialize in it.

Spells - Spells can either be direct or indirect. With direct spells, the witch says something to create an effect on a person or object. Indirect spells ask the Ancient Ones to do something, usually at their discretion.

"Witch" - A general term for a person with magical powers and abilities, although the magic users tend to not call themselves witches, but rather magic users, unless speaking about generalizations.

A witch can be a Spellcaster, Healer, Seer or a combination of two or all three - though usually if a person is more than one type they are usually stronger with one vs. another.
