Chapter 26: The Power of Fire Dragons

Fire overpowered the ice, melting it away instantly. Ice Dragons were suddenly battling the other dragons, and Ice Talons roared in fury as he had to battle against the dragons that breathed fire - the ones that were stronger than him. Canyon advance slowly towards the other dragons, unsure if they were on their side, or Ice Talon's.

"STRIKIMIR! How DARE you! I thought that we had a deal!" Ice Talons roared, then he had to concentrate on fighting the stronger dragon. Cold sweat beaded his forehead, and he descended in flight.

Canyon twisted around, and spotted a Mississippi Kite fluttering over the battle field. He seemed rather pleased with himself. Canyon cautiously flew up to him, keeping a safe distance away. He turned towards her, and smiled. He seemed different...in a way. He seemed...almost more full.

"What have you done?" Canyon screeched at him, fearing the power of the fire dragons below.

Strikimir chuckled. He seemed to be a little bit pale. "What have I done? Well, after I saw you get attacked, I decided to ally with the fire dragons of Vhladkronkus. Or, you can just call them Skythors. They like that name better." He resumed to looking at the chaos down below.

"Why have you brought them to help us, Strikimir? Don't you feel guilty for betraying your own side?" Canyon questioned, wondering why he did betray them.

Strikimir laughed bitterly. "I do not feel any emotion anymore for Ice Talons. He has no feeling for me, or you. I felt guilty for betraying you when the Water-Xs attacked you."

"Oh, Strikimir. Thank you." She paused in thought. "How did you convince the Skythors of Vhladkronkus to help us?" She asked, curious. Why would powerful dragons of the dragon world help a phoenix betrayer?

"Oh, it wasn't that hard. They apparently feel others' emotions, and seek to set things right. They knew that if Ice Talons prevailed, that would mean the end of the phoenixes, and they quite like phoenixes a lot, for some reason. I had to sacrifice a bit of my soul, though. In exchange for that, they agreed to fight against the evil Ice Dragons." His smile wavered for just a bit.

"You gave away part of your soul?!" Canyon shrieked, shocked.

"Yes, but I am okay right now. It was for a good cause. And nothing fuels me stronger now that I can finally see my true revenge." His eyes glinted with mischief and hunger - hunger for something finally given.

Canyon nodded her head, and watched. The phoenixes got out of harm's way, and watched - aghast - at the Skythors. They were winning against the majority of the dragons and Water-Xs, and calmly wielding fire swords. They made scorch talon marks on the Ice Dragons, and set flame to the Thunder Ices.Ice Talons batted away the Skythor, and glared up at Canyon from above. His gaze jolted Canyon in her heart, and her silently went down to the ground. Puzzled, Canyon, with her sharp, hawk eyes, focused on what he was doing. He raised his talons up into the air, gathering chunks of ice. The ice formed a glowing, floating orb, and Canyon realized what it was. She remembered it from a vision.

"Strikimir, Ice Talons is using his weapon!" Canyon gasped, "Someone has to do something NOW!"

"No..." King Falcon Claws and Alabastorm suddenly gasped. King Falcon Claws swiveled his head to Canyon. "He wouldn't."

The Skythors turned to see what the fuss was all about, and they roared. They realized what the weapon could do. They suddenly charged at Ice Talons, ignoring the other dragons, and lunged at him. The orb created a blue light shield, and the Skythors were flunk back as it glowed brighter. The Ice and Thunder Ices roared in glee, though all of them had eyes tinged with fear in them. Ice Talons just looked on defiantly, crazy for his final revenge.

"You have all defied me of my power, now feel what it feels like to be stripped of yours!" He roared, lowering the orb to his talons.

Sleektalon came up to Canyon, and descended. Canyon took noticed, and yelled down at him, "What do you think that you're doing, idiot?!" He was going to be killed if he wasn't stopped, or so it seemed.

Sleektalon looked up mournfully, and his face sagged. He seemed to glow more brighter - seemed to turn more...Fire Phoenix. "I remember who I am, Canyon. I am not Sleektalon. I am the legend, and I must stop him! Nobody else can, only I can detroy his relic!" He turned his attention fully towards Ice Talons.

And he dove down. Canyon almost went after him, but Pyretalon came up and held her back. "Let him do his thing, Canyon. You do not know his full power." And Canyon gave up after several more desperate tries. She stopped struggling, and curiously gazed at Sleektalon's plan.

Sleektalon approached Ice Talons with a straight back, and with broad wings flaring. Ice Talons looked up, and laughed. "Do you think, little birdy, that you have what it takes to defeat me?"

Sleektalon fly higher, angry. "No, but I do know that I have enough power to destroy your little weapon! And you know so." His voice seemed to change - it was more deep, and sounded as if two Sleektalon's were talking at the same time.

Ice Talon's taunting smile vanished from his face. "You're right, but you do know that you cannot stop me. And you cannot destroy this either, little bird. Don't be stupid. Flee me. I will give you one last chance."

Sleektalon's feathers burst from his body, and from underneath those feathers, a glowing body of something ancient glowed. He held out his wings, and majestic feathers glinted from underneath. His eyes were wise looking, and he shrieked out loud. The phoenixes, including Canyon, gasped. They knew who this phoenix was - they've heard of him ever since they became phoenixes.

"I will not flee, Ice Talons! It is I who will give you your last chance to leave the Rising Sun alone!" He held out his wings, ready to attack. His beak flamed viciously of angry fire. "For I am Vuldrix, the mighty Fire Phoenix!"
