Chapter Thirteen
Brent showed up in my room the next day. I was already cleaned and dressed for the day and about to leave to get breakfast when he dropped in. "When did this happen?"
"When did what happen?" I question, as I tie my hair up into a ponytail since it was still wet from the shower I took.
"You know what I mean Rose. When did you get the memory when you were awake?"
"Oh that!" I roll my eyes. "Well wasn't I being dramatic that day." I joke, smiling widely at him.
"It happened yesterday, technically today." I wave him off.
"And that's when I got it."
"What happened?"
I told him about going to the training room and letting my anger go, and picking up the sword and how I looked terrified when I saw my reflection on the blade and all that and then when I heard Ky talk and Leigh giggling.
When I finished he took a seat on the edge of my bed, his hands running down his face in a unflattering way. "It's started."
"Well technically it's been." I point out. "But this just means that the day is coming up faster." I nod my head enthusiastically.
"And who knows how you'll react. I mean you fell asleep and they all said you were pale and hot." He points out to me.
"Oh trust me I know I am." I flip my ponytail. "But thanks anyways it's always nice to be reminded every now and then especially by my fans," I give him a cheeky smile but he just ignores me.
"But now you could react very differently... What if you react like how Leigh reacted at that exact moment? You wouldn't have any control of your actions at all! Who knows what you would do?"
I shrug. "Oh well. I guess we wait till that actually happens to find out am I right?" He gets up clearly annoyed at me for some reason.
"Oh well? Wait for it to happen? Don't you know what this means? How are you so- so normal about all of this?"
"What? I had my time to freak out about it yesterday and I won't do that again today or any other day as long as I'm alive. Now if you'll excuse me all I want to do is eat my breakfast and go into those damned tunnels with a fucking smile on my face and I can't do that while your pestering me." I open the door to my bedroom, hoping that would end the conversation. It didn't.
"So what? You've just accepted the fact-"
"No I have not but what else is there to do? I have to kill that bastard once and for all now don't I?" I walk into the kitchen, every one stops mid-bite, staring at Brent and I. Once again I ignore them all.
"Rose even I have the trouble in believing you right now especially after yesterday's fiasco. I can't even accept this so how could you?" I ignore the stares and sit down in my seat, stuffing eggs and bacon onto my plate, my stomach growling in delight.
"Well that's easy to answer because you don't have to accept this I mean you won't be doing anything at all. You'll just be sitting at the side lines watching... Oh wait, you won't. You'll be sitting inside your little office hoping all goes will and I get my job done. You know what? Why don't I send you a video, or better yet, FaceTime you so you can see all the action live!" I gasp.
"What a brilliant idea!" I clap my hands together and fake a smile before rolling my eyes. "Besides all I think about is killing anyways." I bite a piece of my bacon. "And I suddenly feel a whole lot better about it."
"But what about me?" I bite my bacon again and look at Brent with my brow raised as I chew.
"What about you?"
"I mean what about me? What about your family and friends?" He waved his hand at them all. "What about everyone that has ever cared about you? Ever met you?"
"What exactly is going on right now?" I turn to Trevor.
"I'm going to do exactly what you told me to do yesterday cupcake." I wink at him.
"You can't do this." Brent pleads.
"Cut the crap Brent you know I don't have a choice in the matter anyways." I roll my eyes.
People these days, always acting so dramatic. I should know since I'm one of them.
"What I said?" I roll my eyes at Trevor. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm going to kill them all, is what I mean Trev." I sip my milk and begin eating my eggs. "The vampires, werewolves... all of them."
"Then what's the problem with that?" He stares at Brent. "That's great news!"
"The problem is-"
"Hey Brent! Would you like some of my don't say shit or I will kill you, bacon?" I say sweetly.
"Rose stop, I dont want this to-"
"Oh no it's actually quite delightful you see it's just the right amount of crispy and-"
"Stop! I'm so tired of this shit already." I smack my hands on the table enough to make the dishes shake and get up from the table and walk towards him.
"No Brent, I'm tired of this shit." I point at myself. "I just want to get this shit over with. That's why when we go out in those damned tunnels today I'm going to find them. I'm going to find him. And I'm going to kill that bastard once and for all." I push past him.
"So that's your big plan?"
"I'm sorry I thought the conversation was over?" I tilt my head to the side and walk to the weapon room.
"I'm your boss and I tell you when it's over, not the other way around."
"Wow now isn't that funny. Now you want to act like the boss? When all you have been doing is trying and failing, may I add, to get at me."
"This is serious Rose! Tell me you're big plan on how you're going to find him and kill him?" I grab a belt and wrap it around my waist, securing it.
"Easy." I grab two guns and stuff it in on either side of the belt and grab extra ammo with it since I knew I would need it. "I'll go to the place I last saw him. He'll be there. I just know it."
He laughs bitterly. "Oh come on Rose, we both know you wouldn't ever do that. You wouldn't dare go back there, especially voluntarily."
"And why ever will I not?" I reach up, grabbing a sub machine gun, it was light weight and easy to use, two things I needed. I pull the strap over my shoulder.
"Yeah why?" I roll my eyes. They are just so nosy today now aren't they? I stare up at my friends. Well would they still think of me like that? A friend that is? Who knows. Who cares at this point.
Brent ignores them. "Rose you just aren't strong enough yet." I tilt my head at him, he rolls his eyes.
"I mean emotionally. You are not strong enough, emotionally to see him. To be able to go through all of this again." He waves his hand around the room. "No one would be."
"It doesn't matter, Brent. You can't stop me." I take a couple throwing knives and place them on each side of my boots. "Besides I'm not exactly like everyone else. I can do this."
"You can't. You'll only lash out at him-"
"I'm confused here... Isn't that what I'm supposed to do?" He grabs a fistful of his hair. Something he only does when he's angry and frustrated. I've picked up on that action after a few years of working with him.
"No your not! You're supposed to be smart about this. You're supposed to be strong physically. You're supposed to be strong emotionally. You were trained to be you're absolute best." He walks to me his hands moving to me. "I know you Rose. I've been working with you for years, we're friends... I know you. I've seen you work hard and fight hard. I've seen you at your best of times. And standing here today, I know you aren't and I'm sorry if I don't want anything bad happening to you. So you aren't going and that's a command from your director."
"I appreciate the sincerity and all, but you know when I go and find him it'll be the end- the end of him and I need to do this. Not just for me." I stare up at him. "And you know that." He drops his head finally understanding. "So I'm going to respectively ignore that command and go anyways. There is nothing you can do to stop me."
"So todays the day then huh?" He looks up at me. I nod my head slowly then with more enthusiasm. "That's it then? After all these years? Today's the day?"
"Yeah, that's it. Today's the day." I turn my back to him and grab a sword from one of the racks.
"Besides." I turn to him. "It's not really the end. You know that, everyone does... The prophecy says it all." I put the sword in the slot on my belt that secures it. "And haven't we studied that enough times to know that by now?"
"I know but we all need you at your best when the time comes and your definitely not at your best." I shrug my shoulders.
"It's not like I can say hey I'm not emotionally prepared yet after all these years so why don't you be a pal and give me more time until I am?" I look at him as if he lost his mind because he has. "That's not going to happen. Anyways I'm sure I'll be fine."
"Excuse me but not every one knows what's going to happen or what's happening for that matter." Again we ignore them.
"Just stay safe okay?" I snort.
"Yeah sure."
"I'll see you later." I salut him with two fingers. He sighs, shaking his head slightly before taking a couple steps back from me and disappears. I walk out the room, pushing past everybody to get to the living room.
"Rose?" I turn at Casey's voice. "What's going on?"
"I need you all to change and get your knives. You're going to need them today."
Minutes later after I went to the kitchen and quickly ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and drank some milk everyone was changed and ready with their knives.
"When I give you orders you follow them." I pause. "And whatever you see out there..." They say silent waiting for me to continue. "Whatever you hear, don't let them see you're fear."
They stay silent. I know I must seem really dramatic but this time I wasn't trying to be, they just needed to know this. They needed to be prepared.
"If they see your fear they'll eat you alive, literally." I press my hand in the wall. "And another thing?" I turn my head slightly towards them. "Don't try to help me." I start climbing the stairs and get out of the safe room. As I wait for them to leave, I go over my plan... There was none.
Okay I'm good.
Once Tyler got out I place my hand on the wall and its opens in front of me, I pause. "Whatever happens, you don't stop. You run like your life depends on it."
"What? Because it does?" Fred jokes causing everyone to laugh weakly.
"Exactly." They stop abruptly.
I enter the tunnels and look both ways making sure the coast was clear before signaling them to come out.
We walk down the tunnels like usual, with nothing coming at us. But then things started to feel strange.
"Stay close to me." I don't know how much closer they can get to me they were all huddled up behind me that I could feel heat radiating out of their bodies from how hot it is in here. I turn right.
We finally walk into a big room covered with dirt. I pause there by the entrance before walking to the middle of the room and stopping again. I shake my head, taking a single step back.
"What? What's wrong?"
"Go back. We have to find another way something just doesn't feel right about this." I start pushing them back where we came from when I hear it.
Various screams pierce through the air like a symphony, although this one was not very pleasant.
Everyone cowers protecting their ears with their hands, shutting their eyes tightly as they wait for the screams to stop.
I turn at the source and see them: Zombies, Werewolves, Witches, Warlocks, Goblins, Shape Shifters, Night Crawlers, Vampires, Ogers, Benders, Soul Suckers, all of them...
"What's happening?" Casey whispers. She's trying hard not to show her fear but even I can still hear the slight tremble coming from her voice and the way she holds her knife in her hands I can tell she's shaking.
Everyone was trying hard not to show fear. But they never expected so many of them. Heck they haven't even seen most of them before.
I just didn't expect to see so many of them in one place. "What does it look like?" I lift up the sub machine.
I was going to go find him myself but he surprised me and found me instead.
"It's an ambush."
