"We are never getting out of here." My friends and I, watched from a safe distance as an array of adults and teenagers crowded by the elevators. They seemed to move as one as they shoved each other in an effort to leave, then groaned quite dramatically once they got cut off from entering.

In the midst of the chaos, stood some obnoxious teacher who kept yelling, 'please get in a single file line' in a nasally voice. At this point he should have gave up by now since it was clear as day that they weren't going to listen to him.

"On the bright side, since everyone is fucking morons, they don't realize that this building has another side to it... With elevators." I say sarcastically, crossing my arms as I watch the scene unfold ahead of me.

"Shh! Don't say it out loud! They might hear you." Grace whispers loudly. She covers my mouth, stopping me from saying anything else as she glances around us, trying to see if anyone had heard me.

I rolled my eyes as I removed her hands from my mouth. "Come on, let's go before someone who has a small percentage of their brain working figures that out."

As a group, we tried discreetly leaving the chaotic scene. We weren't really a huge group of friends, no it was just Grace, Casey, Trevor, Zach, and I. But we didn't want to bring attention to ourselves just in case people were being nosy to see where we were going. Thankfully everyone was too distracted to pay attention to us as we walked to the other side of the building.

We knew this place well enough by now because of the mandatory school wide tour they gave us. With that said, we were on a school field trip to this business corporation who apparently thought it was a brilliant idea to have high school students come and distrupt their petty little lives and tell us about, well their petty little lives.

I still didn't quite understand why they didn't just have the schools come at separate times instead of all at once. It would have been less of a hassle for every one.

Altogether, we were three schools. The tour was only meant for the senior class since we were all about to graduate and they wanted fresh meat to work for them.

The bright side to all of this madness was the fact that we were all out now and could go down to the festival that they were hosting for us where there was a variety of food to be devoured and games to be played. Plus they got some local band to play.

But the real fun would be later on at night because they got a DJ to play for us and we heard some rumors that the teachers weren't going to chaperone and it was only meant for the seniors and not the rest of the public. Oh did I mention the fair was open to the public as well? Fun. To be quite honest I didn't know why I was so excited. I was going to leave before all of that anyways.

"Thank you, Jesus!" Zach yells with his hands held up high in the air as if he were preaching. I elbow him lightly in the stomach so he could put his hands down.

There were only a handful of people waiting to get into the elevators which meant that we could finally leave this building faster than we had originally thought.

We let the people who got here before us go first, just because we wanted an elevator to ourselves. Also who would want to ride with a bunch of strangers and have that awkward silence, or hushed conversations?

While we waited for the next elevator they all started talking about which movie they were going to watch at Trevor's house tonight. It was a tradition they had started before I even came into the picture, for I was a transfer student from another high school. But they happily included me into the picture, although I do have to admit I changed their tradition just a tad by adding the horror genre into their strictly comedy movie rule.

What can I say? I'm a gory, scary movie kind of girl.

While they talked I discreetly searched our surroundings. This building gave me bad vibes but my reasons were justified. No one else knew the real history of this place or what lies within these walls, only I had that pleasure of knowing. Not to mention I was trying oh so desperately to avoid a few familiar faces from my old high school.

Just then the elevator chirped, alarming us of it's presence before opening it's doors in front of us. Inside was a big room painted all white, it was literally just a white box with no paintings. You can almost sense the creativity they had put into making the dull elevator as realistic as possible to their even duller lives.

We walk inside, laying our backpacks on the floor since we were tired of carrying it around. We had to bring them to take notes which no one really did that much of, actually none at all really, at least we didn't.

Casey pushes the lobby button quickly once everyone was inside hoping no one would stop us but alas, right before the door closes, someone does.

"Sorry." A deep voice mummers. I turn to Grace and we both shared an annoyed look with each other.

"It's fine." I mumble even though I wanted to punch the living daylights out of this person for stopping us from sweet freedom... Okay that might be too much but the point is I was getting really annoyed. Then again who wouldn't be annoyed after walking around for hours listening to workers trying not to be dull while discussing about the work that they do.

It wasn't exciting at all, in fact all they seem to really be doing is just sitting around and going through endless amounts of paperwork. I don't know who would work here but I'm guessing a great percentage of seniors will since it's one of the largest corporations in town. Personally I wouldn't work here even if I didn't know the history of this place. I mean just switching to this job after my last one would be a huge downgrade on my half.

"Rose?" I look up at the intruder, realizing for the first time that I knew exactly who the intruder was. Well isn't this day just getting better and better?

"Tyler," I smile awkwardly. "Hi..."

"I was hoping I would catch you here." He smiles widely as he strolls into the elevator with purpose.

Casey visibly checks him out from the back then gives me a thumbs up and an exaggerated wink in approval. I stare at her pointedly, shaking my head at her while she smirks, nodding her head up and down at me.

"Tyler, why don't we just catch the next elevator? I rather not ride with trash." I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the voice of the chirping bitches I was trying to avoid all day.

"Yeah we don't want to catch anything." I hated these girls with a passion. They were fraternal twins who basically talked smack to everyone but themselves. Their names were Holly and Molly.

Yeah, real clever now isn't it?

I had went to school with them before transferring to my current school and let's just say we didn't exactly see eye to eye on most things.

This was why I wasn't going to bother paying attention to them. The best thing for me to do was to pretend that I couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge their existence. It used to drive them insane when I did this to them at my old school. They left feeling defeated while I smiled devilishly at their retreating figures knowing I've won once again.

"Hello? Did you hear what I just said?" I continue to ignore them as I check my painted black nails. I usually chipped them after a day but I struggled so much painting them on two nights ago that I didn't want to nibble on my nail to remove the paint the very next day. "The least you can do is to acknowledge us! How dare you ignore us? Don't you remember who we are? We are the best thing that could ever happen to anybody in this town! Hello!"

Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Even though you want to comment about how she referred herself to an object instead of a human being...

"Come on Tyler let's go." He rolls his eyes.

"How about you guys catch the next elevator? I'd rather stay here and catch up with Rose." He smiles at me. Oh no, please feel free to leave with them.

They huff, stomping away like children leaving Tyler alone... Or so I thought, "Hey you got us an elevator, sweet!" I sigh. "Woah is that Rose? Sweet cheeks! We missed you!" Fred walks in, giving me a massive bear hug, lifting me up of the ground as he does so.

"It's nice to see you too, Fred." I pat him awkwardly in the back.

"Okay, let's go before more people that Rose apparently knows, decides to show up too." Trevor mutters, looking curiously between Tyler and Fred.

Casey pushes the lobby button once again and this time there was no one else to stop us from leaving. Thank God for that.

"So, who are your friends Rose?" Casey smiles flirtatiously at them. Fred immediately introduces himself and even took the liberty of introducing Tyler.

"And how do you know our Rose?"

"We went to the same school together before she transferred and left us utterly heartbroken. Especially this guy right here." He elbows Tyler.

Tyler and I were friends, good friends in fact. Well we used to be anyways, I guess he started to like me along the way and well I just didn't think of him like that.

I mean yeah he was decent looking, on the tall side and played football religiously. He also had a great sense of humor, and a smile that could make girls swoon. He had blonde shaggy long hair that curled just above his hazel eyes- I used to marvel at them, jealous that his eyes held specks of red and green in them while my eyes were anything but entrancing.

They were just a plain brown color, they weren't milky chocolate like Trevor's, or a dark chocolate like Zach's, almost on the verge of becoming black. They were just a plain boring brown color.

Anyways, somehow he got a crush on me, would've even asked me out if it weren't because I transferred and moved to the other side of town.

I hear Fred laughing with Casey, pulling me out of my own thoughts about Tyler momentarily. Fred was Tyler's best friend and God could that kid get annoying when he wanted to be, but even I had to admit he was a good friend and I really had missed him.

Fred was in football with Tyler. His chestnut brown hair was freshly shaved into a military cut which did wonders from before where his hair covered his beautiful grey eyes. He was slightly built, I say slightly because that boy eats pizza like no tomorrow. And he was tall, about the same height as Tyler. I guess that's why Casey was pulling her flirt game. Even I had to admit that Fred was kind of cute.

I should probably introduce everyone... I clear my throat. "Fred, Tyler, these are my friends Casey, Trevor, Zach, and Grace. Guys these are my friends from my old school, Tyler and Fred." They exchange hellos and immediately mind their own business. Thank goodness.

Trevor was talking with Zach in one side of the elevator. Grace was to my left scrolling through pictures we had took today on her phone, every now and then pushing her glasses up that kept slipping down her nose. Casey and Fred were flirting with each other to the right side of me, by the corner of the elevator next to the buttons. Which left Tyler and I, awkwardly, standing next to each other. I tried my best ignoring Tyler by focusing my attention on anyone else but him.

My eyes landed on Zach who was leaning against the wall with Trevor standing next to him. They both kept shifting their eyes towards Tyler and I, probably waiting for a que to beat his ass if I gave the look. They were like the older brothers I never had. Especially Trevor.

The two of them were decent looking. Zach and Trevor both shared brown hair, with brown eyes, tall, and almost always dressed the same. The only real difference between the two was the fact that Zach was a bit more athletic than Trevor. Trevor also had a small beauty mark above his lip and a few freckles on the bridge of his nose while Zach's face were clear of any freckles, only a few beauty marks scattered on his face.

Then there was Casey, the flirty, party animal in our group. She had a nice body and always dressed to show that off. Like today she was wearing skin tight black leggings, lace up ballerina shoes, and a fitted light pink shirt to match her shoes. Her brown hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, something she didn't tend to do unless her makeup was too good not to show off properly. Even now that I'm looking at her I could see her fluttering her fake eyelashes up at Fred, turning slightly so her highlight peeked up at him to catch his eyes.

She had two sides of her, girly and slutty, depending on which day it was (so she claims). Grace was the opposite of that with her black beated up converse, regular blue jeans that faded after years of usage, paired with a white flowy top and a black cardigan. Grace always kept her hair down unless she was studying, only then would she keep her hair up into a low ponytail. She never wore contacts, which was a shame because her eyes were a mix between grey and blue, with a hint of light green towards her pupils. It's not that they didn't show through her big framed glasses but they did hid how bright they actually were.

Then again that's how Grace preferred it, she didn't want to stand out, she claimed she was socially awkward and simply hated other people that weren't us. Like whenever any of us all went out to a party or simply talk to other people at school she simply stayed silent and took pictures. One of the things she loved most to do. But when it came down to just hanging out with all of us, she is one weird, crazy ass girl.

And me? Well I was the bitch of the three of us, but it was fine since they knew I could be nice most of the time. Especially since I hold back my sarcasm as best as I could.

And that was pretty much my group. Combine us together and we are one crazy motherfuckers. But I mean who isn't?

"So how do you like your new school?" I transferred about a year ago and to be quite honest, I loved my new school better than my old one. But I wasn't about to tell him that.

"It's fine." I mutter. Hoping desperately that he would get the idea I wasn't in the mood for talking.

"You know math isn't the same without you." He smiles sadly.

Oh crap, this is going to be a long ride, we were barely on the 50th floor for crying out loud! I mean why would they make this building so God damn tall anyways?

He clears his throat, I turn my attention back towards him. "Listen I really did miss you and I know I messed up but-"

"Look, you listened to the bitch twins. I got it alright? Clearly you care about what they think way more than you care to admit."

"I don't, you have to believe me. It's just that-"

"It's just that, what?" I shake my head. "Look we could go back to being friends but only that okay?"

"Look I'm sorry." I sigh. Here's what happened, Tyler decided to listen to the bitch twins and instead of talking to me, he ignored me. He was my only friend in that school besides Fred who thankfully didn't ignore me like Tyler did.

But I wasn't mad because of that. No not all. I was mad because when the bitch twins made a joke about me, he didn't say anything. He chuckled with the rest of them, and this continued until I finally moved and transferred out of that damned school.

"I bet you are." I shift my gaze to Fred. He had stopped talking to Casey and was currently staring between Tyler and I. He smiles at me briefly before focusing back at Casey.

Fred was a good friend. Unlike his shitty of a best friend, he actually defended me. He was the only person who did.

"Rose, I was thinking a lot about it and if you would just give me a chance I'll do my best to-" we come to a halt. The number going back and fourth between 45 and 46.

"Woah- what's going on?" The lights on the elevator suddenly flicker on and off.

"I don't know," Trevor mummers. "Must be the electricity, it's probably all messed up from everyone using the elevators at the same time. Not to mention the power used for the fair and all the offices. It should be working soon." The lights flicker back on. "See what did I tell you? Just the electricity." He smiles.

The lights flicker off just then. The elevator was filled with tension, neither one of us knowing what to do but remain silent and hear one another rustling around in the dark.

I sigh, waiting impatiently for the lights to come back on when the elevator groaned. A hitch of breath was audible in the quietness yet still no one dared to talk. It seemed as if everyone was too scared to in fear that if we did the elevator would fall. As if our voices could trigger such a thing.

The elevator groaned one last time before I felt the floor begin to shake as if under pressure. My heart constricted as I knew what was to come and reached back for the railing. "Everyone grab onto something!"

Those were the last words I got to say before the whole thing fell. My stomach churned from the sudden change of gravity as I clung onto the railing. The sounds of screaming from my friends filled my ears, masking the terrible sounds the elevator made.

My ears popped, a feeling I despised, when I stumble back on unstable feet when the elevator lurched to a stop.

"Is everyone alright?" I yell through the darkness.

"I'm okay!" Grace yells back in response.

"Speak for yourself! I think I'm going to be sick!" Zach groaned somewhere in the elevator.

I turn on the flashlight on my phone, pointing it at everyone's faces as they flinch away from the sudden light.

"It's going to be fine we just have to stay calm. Someone has to know the elevator malfunctioned and is working on getting us out safely." I state calmly.

"Calm? You're joking right? What if we fall again?" Casey looks towards me frightened as if I could possibly answer the question.

"It's going to be alright. We won't." I lie. To be honest I had no idea if we were going to fall again. But I still knew that if I told them that all hell would break loose.

We weren't warned by the elevator this time when we all thrashed against one another as the elevator fell. We didn't even have the chance to scream.

I felt as a hand intertwined with mine, digging into my skin. I couldn't feel the pain however, I was too focused on the elevator falling down several floors.

The flashlight on my phone provided some light to show my friends terrified faces as they held onto the railing as if life depended on it. My phone slips from my sweaty fingers and falls on the ground, screen up. A strange thought occurred to me in those few seconds.

Could I possibly die in this elevator? And then a bubble from my throat came up as I desperately wanted to laugh. Of all things. This could kill me. An elevator might actually kill me!

Finally the elevator stopped, groaning various times before the lights flickered back. Although the number indicating which floor we were on was not. I had no idea how far we've fallen. It felt like we were falling forever when I knew it was a matter of seconds.

I reach down for my phone and turned the flashlight off before putting my phone back in my pocket. "I'm sure everything is fine, just press the panic button." Fred nods, pushing the button since he was closest to it.

Trevor glances at my face. I nod at him to show him I was alright when his gaze suddenly shifts down. I follow it, realizing that Tyler was still holding my hand. I quickly shake it off and cross my arms over my chest.

"Are you sure you're even pressing it?" Zach asks.

"Yes! I am! It's just not working!" He yells pressing the button repeatedly, each time with more force.

"You're going to break it!"

"How am I gonna break it?!"

"Hey! Just calm down!"

"Yeah I'm sure everything is fine. Just technical difficulties." Trevor tries smiling reassuringly but even I could tell how forced it was.

A huge thud in the side of the elevator makes us all jump in surprise. "Oh shit." Trevor and Zach quickly move away from the wall.

"Was that technical difficulties?" Tyler barks out beside me.

There's another thud.

"Do you want me to stay calm now?" Fred mummers quietly, staring at the wall with his hand frozen on the button.

There's another thud against the wall, afterwards little taps following it, like something with long fingernails was walking along the side of the elevator.

Shit.

"What the hell was that?"

"I don't know but I want to fucking get out of here. Right now."

I reach into my bag, searching around blindly as I continue staring at the wall until my fingers skim cold metal. "I want everyone to go to the middle of the room and kneel down on the floor right now."

"What? Why?"

"Just do it! Get away from the walls!" I yell. My bag falling to the floor as I turn to them.

"Oh shit!" They all jump back, bumping into each other as they try to put as much distance between themselves and me. All except for Trevor of course.

"Rose, put down the gun." Trevor slowly moves towards me, with his hands up like I was some ticking time bomb about to explode at any given moment.

"Fucking listen to me and do what you were told!"

"Rose, please. I'm your friend. Hell I'm your best friend and you are mine!" He nears me. "Just please put down the gun. Don't do anything your going to regret."

It's too late for that. I point the gun at them. They all back away even more from me, even Trevor this time. "Shut the fuck up and do what you were told. Now." They slowly inch towards the middle of the room.

There's suddenly another thud. Louder this time, coming from right above us. We all gaze up. "It's too late... It's already here."
