Chapter Two
After working an extra hour, my shift finally came to an end. Sarah rushed off home and I was left on my own, making sure everything was switched off and prepped for the next day.
I grabbed my bag and headed towards the exit. Anticipation of sitting at the bar, relaxed, with a drink in my hand was engraved into my mind. That's all I was thinking about
As I was close to exiting the building, I heard someone shout my name. My eyes dotted around, not understanding where it came from. My name was called out again. Turning around to follow the voice, I noticed a lady from afar, marching towards me. At first, I didn't recognise her, but as she started getting closer, I suddenly felt anxious.
It was Jackie, the lady I was pestering all weekend to give Calum an interview. I hoped deep down, she was calling me over to tell me good news.
"Jackie. Hi, how are you?" I asked as she got closer, judging by her face, she looked stressed.
"Louisa, your referral you gave me," she breathlessly let out.
"Yes? What about it?" I replied in anticipation, hoping that Calum got the job.
"I'm very disappointed."
My heart sank and started to thump in my chest. So many thoughts were rushing into my mind. I gestured for her to elaborate.
"Your referral, Calum Harris did not turn up, we waited over an hour, we even called the two numbers you provided, there was no answer." She said in a very stern voice.
I was mortified and angry. After all I went through, after all the help I gave him, he repaid me by not even bothering.
"Oh Jackie, I am so sorry. I apologise on his behalf." I sighed as no other words left my mouth. I didn't know what else to say I was lost for words.
"Unfortunately, because your referral did not give a valid reason why he did not attend, you won't be able to refer anyone to us for six months." Without another word and without even letting me reply, she walked away from me.
I was left there in my own thoughts. I stormed out the building like a raged bull. I tried to make sense of the situation, but my anger failed me. I needed answers from Calum.
When I arrived outside the apartment, I decided to calm down, thinking to test Calum to see if the truth would come out from him. I composed myself making sure there was not an ounce of anger left on my face.
"I'm back." I called out, waiting for a response as he was fixated on the tv, playing games.
"Hey babe, how was work?" Calum asked, his eyes still glued onto the tv.
I grunted at him being so unaware of his surroundings. Ignoring his question, I go to freshen up and change into a plain white t-shirt, paired with jeans and a black leather jacket.
"So... how was the interview?" I asked curiously coming back into the main room, where Calum was still playing his game.
"Er... Yeah, it was good, you know how interviews are." He briefly replied.
I couldn't believe my ears. He actually lied... I thought to myself whether to keep this facade up or just expose him right there and then.
"So, when will they tell you the outcome of it?" I waited for an answer, to see more lies coming out of his mouth.
"Few weeks I think."
My eyes widened. Anger bubbled inside of me, I stormed over to where he was sitting, grabbed the remote and switched the tv off.
"Louisa! What the hell I was pl-"
"You liar! You fucking liar! There was no interview was there? You didn't attend! How could you do this, why did you do this?" My words fumbled out of me.
Calum didn't say anything, he seemed out of it like he didn't care about anything. He started to stutter, trying to mutter a word, but I didn't want to hear it.
"You know what I don't even want to know, I'm going out." Without another word, I stormed out slamming the door behind me.

It was ten at night, and I was still in the pub. I decided to go to the pub, my head couldn't take the pounding of heavy music, that often circulated in a club. I didn't even want to go home, I didn't even want to think about Calum, anger was still very much alive within me.
As I was zoned out in my own world, the lady behind the bar, came over and placed a drink in front of me, I gave her a puzzled look. Just as I was about to refuse the drink, she pointed to a guy on the other side of the bar.
After a quick glance, my eyes do a double take. The guy was quite intriguing. He himself looked like he was in his own world. His deep brown hair was wavy, creating a beautiful shine as the lights bounced on it. The sharpness of his jaw was to die for. My eyes were drawn at how effortlessly he held his drink, with his strong hands. How his lips touched the rim of the glass.
I forced myself to snap out. Luckily, I was in my senses to go over to him. As I got closer, he had this enchanting aura surrounding him. I was captivated by his deep brown eyes, they gazed into me. His lips curled in to a smile, I felt like I was tingling at his smile. I shook my head, whatever he had in mind I had to shut it down.
"Thanks for the drink, but I'm afraid I can't take it, I have a boyfriend." Cringing at my words, saying it to someone I barely know; I placed the drink in front of him.
"I brought you a drink, I didn't ask you to marry me." he sarcastically replied. He had the most attractive voice booming from him. It was like his voice tantalised my ears.
"Oh, I didn't mean it like that, I was just thinking it's random you buying me a drink." I replied masked with slight guilt at turning down his drink.
"Look, in a non-creepy way, I've been watching you all night and you seemed down, so I thought I'd get you a drink to cheer you up." He soothingly stated.
I internally groan at myself. Nervously I let out a chuckle. For a moment, I got lost as his gaze was staring deep into my soul. It was like he was trying to communicate with his eyes. Once again, I forced myself out of this trance.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come across this way I- Hang on... How do I know you haven't drugged this drink?" I asked warily raising my brows. I tried to make a joke out of this situation.
He turned around towards me. My eyes explored his towering body, he wasn't wearing tight clothes but I could see that he had some muscles under there.
"That's why I got the lady behind the bar to give you the drink. I would never drug a drink, if I was an asshole I would have approached you and seduced you." He shifted his brows upwards, sneaking in a smirk.
My head jerked back at his response. I just stood there, muttering and mumbling not knowing what to say. The idea of him seducing me created a tingled sensation in my stomach.
He started to laugh which helped cut the awkward silence, "I'm kidding, just to let you know I'm not that type of guy, you can trust me but you can also tell me to get lost, I'll go."
The stress was overtaking me, it was overriding my judgement. "Oh my... I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, it's just that I've been under a lot of stress and- Oh ignore me I'm rambling on."
"It's okay, you can tell me, I don't mind listening, what's troubling you, I'm all ears," he said taking a swig of his drink.
"No, I can't possibly tell you, I don't even know you."
"Well, you've already been standing here with me for ten minutes now, so sit down and tell me your problems." He pulled out the bar stool and gestured for me to sit down.
I thought about his offer, thinking that I'll never see him again, I propped myself on the stool, grabbed the drink he brought me and took a sip.
"Where to even begin." I laughed nervously. "Well for starters my boyfriend is being a complete idiot, I feel like we lost our spark, I feel like we are not the same like we were when we left college. On top of that I'm always at work, and now there's this promotion, it's such an amazing opportunity I want to apply but I can't, I'll have no time for my boyfriend and we are already struggling."
Words started to escape from my mouth and I cringed internally. How have I just let all my problems on to him?
"Hmm seems like you have a lot on your plate. Tell me about the promotion then?" He tilted his head to the side, capturing me with his striking looks. I subtly blushed.
"It's to be a personal assistant for the owner of the company I work for, AP Enterprise, I'm not sure if you've heard of the company. I want to apply, but then I also don't want to apply. I have no idea what this owner looks like, he could be this creepy old dude. I'm also worried I won't have no time for my boyfriend."
He sat there silent for a while, "So, what I'm gathering is, you are more concerned about making time for your boyfriend, rather than what you want. what about him, is he concerned for you, have you told him about this?"
This made me think, "I don't know, I feel like I'm giving one hundred percent and I'm getting nothing back."
"If you're having trouble why don't you take a break from your boyfriend?" He shrugged his shoulders.
I was taken back by the suggestion; this was exactly what Sarah had told me numerous times.
"I can't, despite everything I love him and I just can't take a break from him."
The guy looked at his watch and got up from his seat, "I've got to go now, but I think you should go for that promotion, trust me. If your boyfriend loves you as much as you do, he'll understand, but that promotion, I think it could be good for you."
Without another word he gave me the most heart-warming smile and left. It then dawned on me that I never got his name and I probably won't ever see him again. But his words stuck with me, maybe he was right, maybe I needed to go for this promotion...
