Chapter Twenty-Three

About a week after the party, it felt like life was back to normal, at least what I thought was 'normal'. Calum started his new job at the call centre. Day by day Calum and I started to get more intimate with each other. I was happy we were going back to how we used to be, but deep down there was something missing.

Sometimes I would find myself spacing out and thinking of Alexander, while kissing and cuddling Calum. I hated myself for thinking of Alexander. I couldn't help it. My mind wondered about what Alexander was doing, where he could be, who could he be with.

At work I felt frustrated, Alexander would barely talk to me. The only time we communicated was at a meeting, or if there was something he needed from me. Often, when he would walk past me, without acknowledging me, I felt like grabbing and shaking him.

He had an invitation to attend a formal ball, so I had hoped to grab his attention. At least this way he would acknowledge and talk to me.

Sitting at my desk, impatiently tapping my nails on the desk, I stared at his door. Waiting for the handle to move. It slowly moved an inch, I jerked in my seat, staring at my computer, pretending to do something.

Alexander walked out his office, glued to his phone, he headed towards the exit. Whilst my face is on the computer, I followed him with my eyes.

"Before I forget," Alexander said as he was about to leave, "One of my business deals fell through, I don't know why, can you follow it up. It's put me at a loss."

"Uh, yeah sure," I replied nonchalantly.

He didn't  say anything else and proceeded to leave.

"Alexander!" I quickly called out, "You've been invited to a formal ball tonight."

Alexander irked his head and narrowed his eyes. He closed the door and made his way in front of my desk.

"What ball?" He asked. putting his phone in his pocket.

"It's Mrs Bingham's ball," I confirmed, checking the email.

"What?" Alexander exclaimed with his eyes wide open, "Mrs Bingham? As in Jane Bingham?"

"Yes," I replied in a questionable tone, feeling slightly confused to his reaction.

He started to chuckle, shaking his head and pacing up and down the room. Now I was even more confused. I stared at Alexander waiting for him to say something.

"When Mrs Bingham host these balls, she's interested in one thing, and one thing only," Alexander finally let out.

"And what's that?" I raised my eyebrows.

"Me," he said in disbelief.

I stayed silent, still confused. I shrugged my shoulders allowing for him to elaborate.

"Mrs Bingham wants me to get with her daughter and marry her," Alexander awkwardly let out, whilst pressing the temples of his head, as if it pained him to say it.

I couldn't help but snort and laugh.

Alexander tried to suppress his laugh. "It's not funny! She wants me to marry her daughter, Bethany Bingham. I've told her numerous times; I'm not interested. Don't get me wrong, her daughter is a lovely and sweet person, but bless her, she's not the one for me."

I try and compose myself, wiping away the tears of laughter. "Do you want me to cancel?"

"No! Never cancel Mrs Bingham's invitation after accepting, because if you do, you'll be her enemy, you do not want to get on the bad side of her."

"Well then you have to go," I said in a smug manner, leaning back on my chair.

"Ahh well I have a plan." Alexander had a sinister look on his face.

Placing his hands on my desk, he leaned forward, so that our faces were level with each other.

"You are coming with me-"

"I always do." I rolled my eyes.

"As my wife," he replied with a cheeky smirk.

I jolted myself forward in my chair. Dumbfounded by his comment.

"Your wife?" I yelled.

Standing up straight and crossing his arms, he looked at me as if he had this elaborate and devious plan up his sleeve.

"You will go with me to the ball as my wife. If Mrs Bingham finds out I have a wife, she'll leave me alone. It's the perfect plan!" Alexander clapped his hands, feeling proud of his 'grandmaster plan.'

"It's never going to work, everyone knows you have an assistant called Louisa. They've also seen me at Charles business drink, remember?"

"That's where you are wrong," Alexander pointed his finger at me, curling his lips into a smirk, "I know for a fact Mrs Bingham's social circle is not the same at Charles social circle. Trust me I know. As for your name, we can come up with a fake name."

"A fake name?" I scoffed.

"Yeah, something like Katherine, or whatever you want."

I start laughing at his suggestion, "Katherine Pierce? You want to name me after a vampire?"

Alexander cocked his head. "What are you talking about?"

I shook my head in disbelief that Alexander didn't understand the reference. I waved my hands, insinuating to ignore my comment. I pondered on the idea; going to a ball did sound amazing, but as Alexander's fake wife? It was going to be a tricky plan, but there was a possibility it would work.

"Fine let's do it," I hesitantly accepted defeat to his crazy plan, "I'll be Elizabeth Pierce, that sounds like a better name."

"Now that's the spirit!" Alexander clapped his hands, "I'll call Janice, she'll sort your dress and do your hair and make-up."

I sarcastically smiled and gave Alexander a thumbs up. Alexander did the same, copying me.

"I'll see you later for the ball, Mrs Elizabeth Pierce," Alexander shot me a cheeky wink before exiting.

I couldn't help but smile and gush with that wink. I forgot how his winks made me feel. I was also glad that he was talking to me again. It had been a while since we even had a proper conversation.

"Just going to add the final touches," Janice chirped, pushing my stray hairs in place and spraying an endless amount of hairspray, making me cough.

Janice's eyes widened and she let out a sigh of relief, "All done."

Janice extended her arms, waving me to go to the mirror. As I approached the mirror, I kept my head down, till I was standing where I needed to be. Slowly lifting my head up, I gasped, not recognising the person in the mirror. I couldn't believe how Janice had made me look so different, yet so beautiful.

I was standing in a sleeveless, floor-length A-line dress, it was fitted at the bodice, slightly flaring from the waist below. The dress was a very light blue colour, it was almost pastel. The dress was held together by a thing strap, running over my shoulders, in the light it had a slight gleam to it. The neckline of the dress was moderately low V-shaped. It consisted of lace, with a satin lining around the breast area and where the dress starts to flare. The only bit with no satin lining was around my abdomen area. Around the bodice, it had silver detailing, consisting of gems and pearls.

My hair was effortlessly in place. It was tied into a low braided bun. It was paired with a silver crown-like band. It was embellished in Pearls. As for my makeup, my eyes showcased a light brown Smokey look. Fluffy and exaggerated fake lashes, bringing the eyeshadow together. Subtle blush, highlighting the apples of my checks. To finish the look, my lipstick was light brown, going for a slight natural lip colour.

"Janice, you've done an amazing job! Thank you so much!" I gushed; I couldn't stop smiling.

Whilst looking in the mirror, I noticed Alexander. I saw him in the reflection and it felt like he took my breath away. He looked absolutely striking. A clean, white pristine button shirt, on top, a black tuxedo. When the light hit the black tuxedo, it let out a slight shine to it, making it look crisp and neat. Not a single crease in sight on his black trousers. To top it all off, he had a black textured bow tie.

Alongside his ravishing body, hidden so well in his eye-catching clothes, was his dashing face. His medium length hair, swept back, creating waves. The smoothness of the waves in his hair, made me want to run my hands through it. I wanted to remember what it felt like running my hand in his hair.

I turned around so that I got to see the real him, rather than his reflection. I felt like I was drooling. He looked even better. I saw his eyes travel from the bottom of my dress, all the way to my eyes. When our eyes met, it was like a lost connection that had found its way home. Staring into each other's eyes, enabling us to get lost, making us forget the world around us.

I noticed he placed his bottom lips in between his teeth, making me do the same. The way he gazed at me, raised the temperature. I felt the butterflies in my stomach. It then hit me; I shouldn't have been feeling like this. I was engaged.

"You guys look hot!" Janice shrieked in excitement.

Our eyes broke away from each other, looking at Janice who was beaming us the biggest smile.

"Are you ready? Mrs Pierce?" Alexander said in a low voice, making him sound sultry and sexy.

I nearly melted at his voice and words. I needed to fan myself to cool down. I walked up to him, closing the distance between us.

"I'm ready Mr Pierce," I replied in almost a whisper.

Alexander subtly ran his tongue over his lips, curving them in a slight smirk. Extending his arm, I looped my arm through. We proceeded to make our way to the car, waiting to take us to the ball.

I noticed a text message pinging through, onto my phone. I quickly checked it; it was a text from Calum.

C: When are you coming home?

I internally groaned, I didn't think to tell him about the formal ball. Tapping away on my phone, I send him an instant reply.

L: Going to a work event, coming home late. Sorry, forgot to tell you x

C: Oh? That's fine, see you later x

I felt like an idiot for not telling Calum, for some reason he slipped my mind. Tonight, I had one job and one job only; that was too fool everyone, especially Mrs Bingham, that I was Alexander's wife. I couldn't help but shyly smile at the thought of being labelled as Alexander's wife, butterflies were floating around my stomach, as if they permanently lived there.

A/N

Who liked that Vampire Diaries reference? I don't know why but I wanted to include that in.

They've got a sneaky plan... Louisa pretending to be his wife what could possibly go wrong..?
