Chapter Thirty-Two
"I think this dress is better than the last. What do you think Louisa? Louisa? Hello?" Sarah's voice suddenly got loud, she snapped her fingers in front of my face.
I must have zoned out. I came back to my senses only to realise that we were still in the wedding dress boutique. How long was I daydreaming?
"Come on Louisa. This is the fourth dress you've tried on and you're not telling us whether you like it or not." Sarah waved her hand towards the boutique lady, who was clearly starting to get impatient with me.
The boutique lady stood to the side, hands on hips, tapping her high heeled shoes on the marble floor. Her glasses were on the edge of her nose, she darted her eyes towards us, bowing her head slightly peering over her glasses.
I looked back at the large mirror in front of me. Standing on a small podium, I was drowning in a wedding dress. It was the fourth one I had tried, but something in my mind was telling me, it wasn't the one.
"You really need to make a decision now," Sarah snapped, "You're getting married next week, you haven't got your dress and we just about managed to get an appointment at this boutique. If you don't pick your dress now, there's no way you'll find another place that'll give you a last-minute appointment."
Sarah's stern words were floating around me. It pained me to believe that she was right, I needed to make a decision on the dress.
I studied myself in the mirror. The dress had the silhouette of a ball gown. It was fitted at the bodice and abruptly flared out from the waist. The bodice was strapless, hugging my body tightly. The top part of the dress was made up of flowery lace, whereas the section past the waist was plain.
"This is fine," I mumbled, shrugging my shoulders.
"No. Don't just agree to anything. You need to find something you like." Sarah was getting flustered. She mirrored the boutique lady with her hands on her hips.
"I told you this is fine. Let's just go with this dress." I snapped. I pushed my shoulders back; my body was aching. For a while now, I had this elongated feeling of being drained, in my mind I felt like it was the lack of working. Knowing that I wouldn't be going back to AP Enterprise played a lot on my mind. It was all I could think about; it physically and mentally drained me.
"Can you give us a moment?" Sarah asked the boutique lady.
She let out an exaggerated sigh and stormed to the front of the shop, slamming the door behind her.
"Out with it," Sarah demanded pointing her finger at me
"What?" I asked, shaking my head in confusion.
"You're hiding something from me. I can tell by looking at you that something is not right. You leave your job, which you loved. You've not planned a lot for this wedding. You're leaving everything last minute. So out with it. Tell me what's up."
I let a slow breath out. Pursing my lips, I thought to myself, what is actually up with me. My mind was scrambled from all the thinking I had done. I don't really understand myself, what is wrong with me.
"It's nothing-"
"Has it got something to do with Alexander?" Sarah questioned, narrowing her eyes.
"What?" I spat out, "Alexander? No, It's nothing to do with him."
"Fine." Sarah mumbled in defeat.
I quizzically moved my head to the side. Sarah was never the one to give up, she normally nagged me to tell her what was going on in my mind.
"Can you just help me get out of this dress. I'm going with this one and it's my final decision."
I turn back towards my reflection. Darkness consumed my under eyes. It felt like my lips were forever curled downwards. Wearing a wedding dress was supposed to make me feel special, like a princess. In fact, I was feeling the opposite.
"Sarah, help me out of this dress," I repeated, straining my arms, trying to release myself from the tight dress.
Sarah's phone let out a sound, indicating a message.
"Hang on, I'll be right back," she mumbled, looking at her phone and leaving the room.
I stared in confusion at the mirror. What the hell happened. She just left. Is she even coming back? I continued to try and get the dress off me. I let out a frustrated sigh. The muscles in my arms were starting to ache.
"Do you need help?"
I let a small shriek at the sound of a familiar voice catching me off guard. I didn't need to turn around to understand whose voice that belongs to. It was the sound my ears gladly took in.
My eyes followed the voice, looking through the mirror. Alexander stood behind me.
Dressed in a black, buttoned T-shirt, paired with black trousers, that gave a hint of grey in them. There was a dark aura surrounding him; he normally donned a pristine white T-shirt. The black T-shirt was something else. I felt like drooling at the sight of him.
"You can't be in here. Get out." I yelled, snapping myself out of ogling at Alexander.
"Why? Last time I checked its bad luck if the groom sees the bride. Unfortunately, I'm not the groom." Alexander smugly replied.
My heart skipped a beat at the use of 'unfortunately.' Hearing him say that made my insides all giddy. I clenched down on my jaws trying not to show my true emotions.
"Bloody hell. Where the hell is Sarah." I whispered to myself.
"There's no point in waiting for Sarah. She's the one who told me where to find you," Alexander pointed out, he slowly got closer to me.
"Are you stalking me now?" I hissed, gritting my teeth.
"Well, when you don't reply to my calls or texts, I'll find you another way." Alexander shot a cheeky wink at me.
Heat rose to the surface of my skin. I bit the inside of my cheeks, annoyed that one simple thing made my insides go crazy.
"Stop playing around, tell me why are you here," I groaned as I stretch my arms back, trying to get my dress off.
"I wanted to apologise. I should have respected your decision to leave. I was an idiot for questioning you. I'm sorry." Alexander's eyes soften, he placed his hands in his pocket, turning his head to the side, waiting for me to reply.
I sighed at his genuine intention. I wanted to run into his arms, tell him that it was fine. But I couldn't, if I was in close proximity to him, I would lose control. Why did it feel like I could never escape him? He was everywhere I turned, constantly in my mind.
"It's fine. You don't need to apologise," I replied, shooting him a subtle smile.
Alexander noticed me struggling to take my dress off. He came closer and closer, behind me. "Let me help you."
I wanted to tell him, not to help me and back away. Somewhere deep inside of me just wanted his touch. I wanted to get all the sensations from him.
His hands lightly brushed my bare back. A tingling sensation ran down. Creating a wave of shivers, I arched my back. I shuddered at his touch. To feel every aspect, I closed my eyes and focused on the movement of his hands.
"You know," he lets out a low whisper into my ear, "I didn't expect you to be wearing this kind of dress for your wedding."
He tugged at the dress, un-hooking the first button. I jerked at the tug; this created a shockwave running down my back.
"And what do you know about what kind of dress I like?" I smugly replied in a whisper, whilst melting at his touch.
"Louisa Watts, if you remember correctly, I picked out two dresses for you to wear at the events we attended. I got you a whole wardrobe full of clothes." He proceeded to unhook the second button, tugging at me again.
"I know deep down you don't like this dress. Something elegant is more your style. A white lace dress, tightly hugging your waist, flowing at the bottom. Bateau neckline, long sleeves. That's more you." Alexander's low whisper danced it's way to my ears, he then tugged the third button. Just as I relax at the tip of his fingers and soothing voice, I felt the dress fall down.
My eyes snapped open, grabbing hold of the dress, not allowing it to fall to the floor. My face turned red like a tomato, I looked towards the floor, hiding my obvious embarrassment at me nearly losing it from Alexander's touch.
When I looked back up, I saw Alexander biting down on his lips. Captivating eyes, devouring the sight of me. Still holding on to the dress, I turned to face him, rather than looking at him through the mirror.
"See you around Louisa," Alexander said in a low tone, he turned and headed for the door.
"Wait," I quickly called out, stopping him. He turned around, running his hand through his hair, waiting for me to say something.
"Um... Come to my wedding? I would really like it if you were there." I bit the top of my lip, waiting in anticipation for his reply.
"I would love to come."
My lips curled in to a smile, as I was about to say something, he indicated that he wasn't finished.
"But, I can't."
The smile from my lips dropped. My brows furrowed, I shook my head, waiting for him to reply, but he didn't say anything.
"Why?" I questioned, pushing him to answer me.
"Because I can't watch you walk down that aisle and marry him," Alexander sternly replied, with his eyes full of desire as if he was ready to grab me and consume me.
My heart swelled at his words. He didn't allow me to question further. Within a split second, he turned and left. As I was about to run after him, I realised my dress was still loose.
My eyes darted all over the room, I noticed a fluffy pink dressing gown to the far right on a chair. I let go of my dress and ran towards the dressing gown. Quickly putting on me, I headed towards the front.
Sarah and the boutique lady were deep in conversation, but Alexander was nowhere to be seen. My heart pounded in my chest, I started to feel breathless.
"Louisa? What's up?" Sarah questioned, walking over to me placing her hand on my shoulder.
"Where's Alexander." I demanded.
"He's gone. What did he say?"
"Shit," I muttered to myself.
In the dressing gown, I ran outside. Looking at every point of the street. He was long gone. I growled in frustration. How could he say all that and leave me. Why would he say that? So many questions were running through my mind. It felt like the world around me was spinning. It felt like I had been running for so long and I couldn't get to my destination.
"Louisa, what's up?" Sarah came up behind me.
I shook my head, my eyes started to fill up with tears, but I ensured it didn't fall down my face.
"Nothing. Let's just get that damn dress," I said in a cold tone.
Why did Alexander frustrate me so much? I just wanted to rip him out of my brain. I wanted to get rid of him in my thoughts. It felt like he consumed every aspect of my brain and my life. Even when I should have been happy and focused on Calum, it was always back to Alexander.
