Chapter Sixteen

After our lunch, Alexander had the driver drop me off, back to the office.

Whilst we were at the Italian Roof-top Restaurant, Alexander was keen to learn about me. He was intrigued to getting to know me, I reciprocated the feeling. As I asked him endless questions, I watched his every movement as he answered.

Everything he did, he did so effortless. The way he gripped the wine glass, the way his soft lips pressed against the glass. The way he held his fork, twirling the spaghetti around, placing it in his mouth. Watching him do anything and everything, was having some kind of effect on me and I couldn't explain it.

My day dreaming was cut short as a knock on my door, hauled me back to present time.

"Come in." I shouted.

The door opened with Viv peering her head in first and then entering the room.

"Viv, How are you?" I greeted brightly at her.

"I'm good, how are you? I just came by to check up on you. Are you finding everything okay?" She asked, setting herself down on the other side of the desk.

"I'm good thanks. I'm getting there. Working away." I said with a nervous laugh. Purposely hiding out my drunken blunder, something Viv didn't need to know about.

"Aw that's good, you'll get there." Viv replied with a cheerful smile. "I thought I would let you know, I'll be leaving in about two weeks."

I raised my eyebrows in surprise. "You're leaving so soon? I bet you're sad to go."

"Safe to say that I will be very sad." Viv pouted her lips jokingly.

"So, what are your plans?" I questioned.

"Well, somewhere nice and hot first, then I have a few things lined up when I get back, nothing is set in stone yet. I'll have to sort everything out when I'm back from my holiday." Viv said whilst getting out of her seat and making her way to Alexander's door.

I looked at her in a confused way, I tilted my head slightly whilst frowning.

"Alexander's not in." I quickly said, getting out of my own seat. She had her hand on the door handle. I was surprised as she didn't think to even knock.

"That's okay, I'll just wait for him to come back." Viv sternly replied. She began to open the door.

"Um!" I abruptly let out, trying to stop her from entering the office. "I think it's best if you wait outside, I don't think it's appropriate for you to wait inside Alexander's office."

At this point Viv turned back around, closing the door, she stared right into me with her arms crossed. There suddenly was some kind of tension in the air, we were looking at each other awkwardly.

"I was Alexander's most trusted assistant before you, so I think I have earned the right to wait in his office unattended-"

"Was." I replied rapidly. "You was. As his assistant now, I think it's best if you wait elsewhere." I gave her a smug smile, straightening my posture so that I was standing tall and proud.

"Very well then." Viv scoffed. "Let me know when he's back."

Viv shot me a forceful smile, then walked past and left without saying another word.

I slightly relaxed myself just as she left, I saw a different side to Viv. There was something about her, something that I couldn't quite understand.

Eventually, towards the end of the day Alexander arrived back to the office. He strolled in with one hand in his pocket, his other hand holding his phone. He stood in front of me, at first I didn't acknowledge him.

"Are you ready?" He asked in his captivating deep, smooth voice.

He captured my attention, I looked up towards him and furrowed my brows in confusion. I slowly shook my head indicating for him to elaborate.

"It's six." Alexander mentioned waving his phone, showing me the time. "Do you not want to go home?"

It then dawned on me, that I agreed to Alexander's invitation to live with him.

"Oh that!" I exclaimed. "I don't have any of my stuff. Everything is at my apartment."

"Don't worry about it. That's where I've been all afternoon, sorting your room out for you. I've bought most things that I think you'll need. If there's anything else. you can go shopping on the weekend." Alexander replied as he had a compassionate look to his face.

My mouth dropped open. I was lost for words at his kind gesture. The amount of admiration I had for Alexander was astounding. He had done so much for me, in the little while we've known each other.

"Alexander, you are doing so much for me. I don't know how I could repay. Thank you so much."

"It's nothing. Don't worry about it." Alexander shoot me a wink and a charming smile.

The combination of that charming smile and wink; made me feel flushed, I look down at my lap as I felt myself blushing.

"Let's go." Alexander picked up my bag and offered it to me, waiting for me to get up.

I tidied up my desk and switched my computer off. As I retrieved my bag from Alexander, our hands lightly brushed against each other. All of a sudden a warmth feeling is radiated through my body, it had felt like someone amped up the heating in the office. The butterflies had entered in my stomach. I tried to get the feeling away from me, trying not to show Alexander the effect he had on me.

We made our way towards the back entrance, where the car was waiting for us. I got in, shuffling over, sitting behind the driver. Alexander followed, sitting besides me. The way he sat in the car with such power and authority. Leaning back, legs slightly apart, showcasing his assets. Left arm on his thigh, his right arm leaning on the middle seat, next to me.

I shifted my eyes towards my left, looking at Alexander. I couldn't wrap my head around the way he made me feel. Sitting next to him made me feel safe. I felt at ease whenever I was close to him. When I touched him I always had a surge of electricity radiate through my body. I started to feel hot. I subtly grin thinking about the effect he had on me. I hadn't felt like this for a long time.

Once upon a time, Calum was the one to make me feel all the things I wanted to feel. Now it felt like our candle had burnt out. What we had, evaporated. Finding out he had been cheating on me for about five month, I understood why we fizzled out. I felt frustrated, that even though he didn't make me feel like this anymore, deep down I still loved him, I still cared for him.

I got my phone out of my bag and noticed I was yet to reply to Calum's many texts and calls.

"Are you okay?" Alexander asked, breaking my gaze away from my phone.

I gave him a gentle smile, nodding.

"Viv came by." I say remembering our awkward encounter and trying to block my endless deep thoughts.

"Oh really? What did she want?" Alexander questioned in a puzzled tone.

"She didn't say. I told her you weren't in the office. She was adamant in waiting in your office."

"That's strange." Alexander responded narrowing his eyes in confusion. "She should understand that as she's not my assistant anymore, she has no right to enter my room."

"That's what I said!" I beamed, feeling proud that I showed my authority towards Viv.

"You did the right thing. You are the only one who can stay unattended in my office." Alexander's eyes find my eyes, the warmth ambience of his pupils, made me feel like I was going to melt.

I turned my head straight, breaking my gaze away from Alexander. I get my phone to text Calum back.

L: You broke my heart. I'm not ready to talk.

Within a minute Calum responded.

C: Please, I just want to talk. I'm so sorry. I miss you.

L: I need time to myself. When I'm good and ready, I'll meet you then.

C: Where are you staying?

L: With a friend.

C: Who? Sarah?

L: No not Sarah. Just a friend from work.

I put my phone away in my bag. Ignoring the rest of the messages from Calum. Deep down I didn't know if I was ready to see him again. I was afraid that if I did see him, the images of him cheating will come flooding back. He truly broke my heart and I wasn't sure how to come back from it all.

Whilst I was deep in my thought, it didn't occur to me that, my left hand, leaning on the middle seat was slowly gravitating once again towards Alexander's hand.

When we touched, I jolted myself, abruptly moving my hand away. I saw Alexander facing the window, but I noticed a devious smirk creep up on his face. I turned to face my window. I closed my eyes and smiled at myself yet again.

I just couldn't explain how this man made me feel. I couldn't explain why this man made me feel like this, but I was starting to like and get used to the feeling...

A/N

Was it weird for Viv to go into Alexander office without permission? Seems strange...

Alexander does it again! Buying things for Louisa so she feels comfortable!

And why do they keep gravitating towards each other!?!?
