Chapter Seventeen

I followed Alexander into his astonishing house. The contrast between the darkness outside and the brightness inside, blinded me for a second. My eyes steadily adjusted to the light, I saw how beautiful the floors, the walls and the furniture looked under the lights.

The spotlights from above beamed down, onto the marble floor, creating a smooth shine to it. Everything from the floor to the coffee table, glistened. I never thought Alexander lived in such a lavish house. He had an eye for detail.

"Good evening Mr Pierce." I heard a familiar voice.

I turned around, it was the maid from the morning. Wearing the same outfit, hair still in a tight bun.

"Miss- Oh sorry I mean Louisa." She beamed at me. "Welcome back."

"Um, thank you?" I said awkwardly. She seemed a little too excited to see me.

"Evening." Alexander responded with a friendly smile. "Louisa, I believe you've already met Maggie."

So, she has a name. Oddly enough, the name Maggie suited her. Brown almond-shaped eyes, that almost looked like puppy dog eyes. A small petite nose, with thin lips that disappeared when she smiled. Maggie looked sweet and innocent; she showed a lot of respect for Alexander. Greeting Alexander with happiness and also acknowledging me.

"Would you like me to show you to your room?" Maggie asked.

"It's okay, I'll show her." Alexander answered for me.

Alexander lead the way, walking up the stairs. We proceeded to turn left, at the top. The way to the room felt oddly familiar, I then remembered it was the same room where I woke up in the morning. When we got to the room, Alexander opened the door and entered, I followed behind him.

I almost didn't recognise the room. It looked different to what I saw in the morning. The bed was in the same position, but towards the left side on the wall, was a mirrored double wardrobe. On the right side, against the wall was a white chest of drawers. Sitting on top of the chest of drawers was a crystal vase, with an assortment of flowers. The purple bed sheets added colour to the room.

"This was a spare room, I never really bothered to put a lot of furniture. I thought I'd add a wardrobe and drawers, for you." Alexander said turning around to face me.

"You honestly didn't need to; I would have been happy with just a bed. Thank you so much." I chimed, feeling ever so grateful.

"You hungry?" Alexander asked quickly changing the subject.

"Um, not really. I'm still a bit full from that pasta." I said rubbing my stomach, thinking about the delicious food we had earlier.

"Let's go out for ice cream then." Alexander suggested, as a childish grin appeared on his face.

"Ice cream?" I asked, slightly confused.

"Yeah, you know the frozen stuff you eat?" Alexander cheekily responded.

"I know what ice cream is." I rolled my eyes and gave him a playful nudge on the arm.

"Well then, meet me in the main hall in ten minutes." Alexander shot me a cheeky wink once again and then left the room, not allowing me to respond.

I pondered around the room for a while. I walked
up to the wardrobe admiring the sleek finish. I opened it up, my eyes lit up, the wardrobe was full of clothes. It was a mix between, work wear, casual wear and lounge wear.

I turned my head to the chest of drawers. No, it can't be full. I paced towards them, and opened them up. I couldn't believe my eyes. The first section was full, with underwear. The second section, full, with nightwear. As I opened the rest, I was taken back, they all were full.

I groaned, feeling slightly annoyed. Why is Alexander doing all this? This was too much.

I looked at the clothes that where hanging in the wardrobe. I wondered how Alexander knew what I wore, I dawned on the idea of Maggie helping him.

Opting for a maroon knitted jumper and pairing it with blue jeans, I plodded to the bathroom, there where an array of products in the mirrored cabinet above the sink and in the shower.

Freshening myself up, I combed my hair into a loose ponytail. My eyes ended up looking through the window, even though it was dark, I could sense that it was cold outside, as the trees moved alongside the breeze.

I noticed a cream checked woolly scarf, hung on the back of the door. Grabbing it, I wrapped it around my neck. It felt so comfortable and sung, I could have easily fallen asleep.

Alexander was deep in conversation with Maggie, as I walked down, Maggie spotted me. Her puppy-dog eyes welcomed me, as she smiled.

Alexander turned around. My eyes focused on what he wore. A dark grey jumper, that was hugging his body, you could see the outline of his abs. Paired with dark blue jeans. He was wearing a black wool overcoat. His style was casual, yet sophisticated.

"Ready?" Alexander asked, snapping me out of admiring his style.

"Yes, I am." I replied.

We walked to the car; a black Mercedes was waiting for us. I didn't know a lot about cars, but this one was a beauty. He opened the front passenger door for me. I get in, he made sure I was all seated before closing the door. He then made his way to the driver's side. I admired the stunning interior. Black leather seats. LED lights under them. The steering wheel was matte black with silver details. The car was illuminated from the dashboard and the digital stereo. I suddenly remembered my own car, situated on its own, outside the office building.

Alexander drove through the city. I found myself observing the way he drive. One hand gripped the steering wheel, the other on the gear. When he turned left or right, he effortlessly moved the steering wheel in one motion, with just one hand. At times he gripped the steering wheel tight, which made his knuckles go white. I never noticed before, but Alexander's hands were quite big. I also noticed how strong they looked; the veins were visible on the back of his hands. My mind started wondering about his hands all over me. I pinched myself trying to get the thoughts out of my head.

We arrived at an ice cream parlour on the outskirts of the city. Alexander found a spot to park. As he reversed the car into the spot, he placed his left hand towards the back of my seat. He positioned himself to look behind, he then manoeuvred the car with one hand. The butterflies had entered.

When he turned the car off, I made an escape, I needed the cold wind to cool me down. I feel myself relax as I closed my eyes and let out a sigh.

"Louisa!" Alexander called, I looked to see where he was and he was already near the entrance. I quickly paced over to him.

When I entered the ice cream parlour I was hit by an overwhelming sweet smell. All the flavours combined together entered my nose. There was a mix between vintage and modern decor. Cream coloured marble floor, rectangle tables dotted around, with maroon booth style seats. The counter where the ice cream was situated was steel. There where also maroon bar stools along the bar.

We were welcomed by a sweet old lady. She wore a vintage ice cream parlour apron. Her shiny grey hair tucked away under a hair net.

"Welcome, please follow me." She said with soft tone in her voice. We got seated in the far corner, away from the door.

"Here are your menus, when you're ready to order, just wave to me-"

"There's no need, we'll both have the strawberry special sundae." Alexander interrupted confidently.

"Very well then, two strawberry special sundaes coming right up." The lady cheerfully said, taking the menus away.

"Um, I didn't even get a chance to look at the menu. How do you even know what I'll like?" I questioned,  raising my eyebrows.

"Trust me, the strawberry special sundae, is amazing. I know you'll like it."

I jokingly scoffed, shaking my head. This felt slightly creepy, how on earth did he know my favourite flavour. Maybe it was a lucky guess.

"So, Louisa Watts, tell me more about you." Alexander asked, leaning his elbows on the table, with his hands under his chin.

I raised my brow at him, he wanted to know more, not that we spent the entire lunch getting to know one another.

"Hmm, what do you want to know?" I replied, placing my hands the same way as him.

"Do you have family here?" Alexander responded,  with a genuine tone to his voice.

The smile dropped from my face. I moved my hands off the table and into my lap. A sudden wave of sadness hits me. Family was a touchy subject for me.

"Family, where do I begin." I began. "Well, I've never met my biological parents, they gave me away at birth. I was in and out of foster care. There were many times where I was so close to being adopted but it never happened. It felt like nobody truly wanted me. Then I made a promise to myself, as soon as I turned eighteen, I would go and make a living for myself. That's exactly what I did. I made sure I got into a good college, I made sure I would get a job, earn the money I never had.

"Thats when I met Calum. We were best of friends at first. He's the only person I've ever known." My words drifted as I couldn't say anymore. I wiped the tears away.

"I am so sorry." Alexander apologised. "I didn't know you had a difficult childhood."

"Don't be silly." I said smiling, swiftly wiping the tears away. "How could you have known all this. Now, tell me about yours."

There was silence for a while. It seemed as if Alexander was hesitant in telling me about his family.

"Growing up it was me, my sister, my mum and my dad. My dad, Adrian Pierce, created AP Enterprise from scratch. By the time I was eighteen, AP Enterprise was up and running. Then one day, my dad suffered a stroke. It took a massive hit on him, sadly he didn't make it. I had to take over the business at eighteen. My dad's death effected my mum deeply. She now lives in Australia with my sister, Ashley, she couldn't bear living here. Everything reminded her of my dad. And ever since I've put my blood, sweat and tears into the business."

I looked at Alexander with such compassion and admiration. I was glad he opened up, it was like seeing him in a different light. At the tender age of eighteen he had so much responsibility. The love he had in his eyes whilst talking about his family, it showed that he was brought up to be a respectful man.

Our strawberry special sundaes arrived. I took my first bite; I felt like I was ascending to ice cream heaven. Alexander was right, this was amazing. We proceeded to talk more as the night went on. I felt like I was truly getting to know the real Alexander.
