Chapter Fifty-Seven

I watch the scenery outside go by like a movie. The mixture of green, from the trees, rushes by. Alexander and I are on our way to Lucinda's office. After my stern rules, she decided to set a meeting with the four of us.

I somewhat felt glad that Alexander, Jason, Rose and I were going to this meeting, together. It felt like it was four against one.

After what Alexander told me, I had a sunken feeling in the pit of my stomach. It didn't feel right doing business with her, but we've come so far with our project, it's something that had to be finished. Even if it was her company providing designs for us.

With Lucinda's office situated on the outskirts of the city, which was about forty-five minutes away, I wasn't able to enjoy the view as the car drives.

On long drives, I relax in my seat, hand accompanied by Alexander's and I watch the world go by. Enjoying the beauty and aspects of the outside world.

But today, it was different. My posture was rigid. Even though Alexander was close to me, I couldn't find myself to relax.

After a gruelling forty-five-minute drive, we arrive. We meet Jason and Rose at the front of the building and we make our way to Lucinda's office.

Three painful hours, I had to sit and watch Lucinda run her mouth as she bats her eyelashes to Alexander. Every time she tried to get closed, I could feel the rage within me expand. It was only moments before I exploded.

Luckily before I could drag her away from my fiancé, the meeting had finished. We exit from the building and we wave goodbye to Jason and Rose.

Heading towards our car, I have a slight wariness that something is missing. I check my bag, only to realise I had left my phone in the office.

"Shit." I mutter under my breath.

Alexander stops and turns. "What's up?"

"My phone. I left it in the office. I'm just going to go get it." I shout out as I quickly head back.

Internally I was groaning at the fact that I had to go back. I scan the room and my phone was nowhere to be seen.

"Looking for this?" Lucinda questions from behind me.

I follow her voice to see her waving my phone. I grit my teeth and make my way over; I get close and snatch the phone away from her.

She lets a condescending chuckle under her breath. As I was about to charge out the room, like a raged bull, there was something within me that I had to get off my chest.

"I know what you're trying to do, and it's not going to work." I plainly said, gunning her down with my eyes.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Lucinda innocently replies, shrugging her shoulders.

"Batting your eyelashes, making conversation and getting close to Alexander. I don't know who you think you are, but you need to stay in your own lane." I boldly reply, I stand face to face with Lucinda. Straightening my posture showing some kind of authority.

She stands in front of me, like she has no care in the world. She lets out a slight chuckle.

"Are you scared?" She's asks in a condescending tone.

I raise my brows, jerking my head to the side, confused by her reply.

"I suppose you can never forget your first love. There will always be that special connection with the person who you said I love you, kissed and had sex with for the first time." Lucinda bitterly says.

I clench my jaws, careful not to lose my anger with her. "If you're talking about Alexander, don't hold your breath. He stopped loving you a long time ago."

My temper within me sparked. I didn't know what Lucinda was trying to get at. The way she says her words in an awful tone, makes me what to grab her and throttle her.

"I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. You can't forget your connection with Calum, right?" Lucinda asks as she ponders on my face for a reaction.

"What the hell do you know about Calum?" I rapidly respond. Rage flowed through me like lava. I couldn't comprehend how she knew my history with Calum.

"It's amazing what you can find out when you talk to the right people." Lucinda shoots me a wink and proceeds to walk away.

I stormed towards her, following her movement. When I got close, I grabbed onto to her arms to stop her. I make her face me, the rage in me gripped onto her like she was going to escape from me.

"You know nothing." I exclaimed in anger. "I'm telling you now, don't overstep your mark."

A devious smirk creeps on Lucinda's face. It's like she finds this amusing. The blood within me boils, to the point where I could feel myself heat up with anger.

"How does it feel knowing he cheated on you, and he might not even cheat on Sarah. He's probably happier with her than he ever was with you." Lucinda hissed. Her words stung like a snake, attacking me.

My veins were flooded with anger. My nostrils flare as I use my eyes to stare Lucinda down. It took every ounce in me not to slap her. I breathed heavily and clenched down my teeth, trying to keep my calm.

"He cheated on me, I can't deny that. But everything happens for a reason. If I was never cheated on, I probably would have never seen Alexander the way I did, and now thinking about it, I'm glad Calum cheated on me, because I got to find the love of my life, I've found my soulmate. And who do you have? Nobody, because you're a cheater yourself." My words tumble out of my mouth.

Without waiting another second, I turn on my heels and make my way to the exit. I proudly smile at myself, those words coming out of me and slapping Lucinda in the face, felt good.

"Is that what he told you?" Lucinda shouts from behind.

She stops me in my tracks, I turn to face her, nodding my head, waiting for her to follow on from her words.

"I don't know what he's told you, but you should learn the truth." Lucinda whispered as if she didn't what another soul to hear her.

"What are you talking about?" I ask, worry rises within me.

"He probably told you about the pregnancy, how I lied to him. I admit, I did lie about losing the baby, but I had no choice, I felt alone and isolated. Alexander didn't want the baby, he never wanted kids. After finding out I was pregnant he changed, he wasn't the same."

The tension was accumulating, my heart started to beat frantically. I felt the air get thicker, making it hard for me to breath. A tightness in my throat overwhelms me. I couldn't help but form tears in my eyes, I did everything I could to ensure they didn't fall down my face.

"And I didn't cheat." Lucinda continues. "I found comfort in another man's arms, because Alexander cheated on me, he's the one who broke me."

The sentences coming out from Lucinda, slap me in the face. For a moment, it felt like my heart stopped. Twists emerge in my stomach. I stood there, staring with my eyes wide open.

"I don't believe you." I say with a shaky soft voice, fighting back the tears.

"Believe what you want, but that's the truth." Lucinda doesn't add another word, she turns to leave me in the cold office.

I'm forced to walk away, back to the car where Alexander is waiting for me. When I get back outside, I see Alexander leaning on the car waiting for me. He notices my presence and lifts away from the car.

"Everything okay?" He asks, carefully studying my face.

I'm forced to let out a smile. "Of course. I've got my phone, let's go."

I try not to make eye contact, I brisk-fully walk past Alexander, I get into the car and wait for him to follow. He sits beside me, but I continue to look away.

He takes my hand into is, I clamp my eyes shut. His touch makes me feel like all my worries are gone. I constantly yearn for his touch, and when I get it, I feel at peace, I feel happy, I feel at home.

I have no reason to doubt Alexander. Deep down I know Lucinda is spiteful, and will say anything to drive a wedge between us. I trust Alexander with all my heart, I love him.

But she did it. Lucinda had planted her seed of doubt in the back of my mind. I internally kick myself for pondering on her words, but the seed of doubt is there. It'll only be a matter of time before it grows and grows.

I just have to keep reminding myself of the strong connection Alexander and I have. I have to hold on to our love and trust for each other. I can't let this doubt and suspicion take over and consume me.

But did Alexander tell me the truth? I hate myself for thinking this, but now it's present in my mind, I can't stop thinking about it.
