Chapter Fifty-Eight

From the moment we left Lucinda's office, to the moment we arrived home, I kept replaying the words from Lucinda. They kept swirling around in my mind like a vicious plague.

There were times where Alexander would talk to me, but I would be so far in my own thoughts, I didn't comprehend what he was saying to me.

"What's wrong?" Alexander asks as we enter our house.

I force a smile. "Nothing."

Alexander let's a long and slow sigh. My back is towards him, but I feel his presence close behind me.

His touch lands onto my shoulders, he elegantly turns me around to face him. His tender eyes, look closely onto my face, he knew something was wrong.

"Louisa. Tell me, somethings up, you took your time getting your phone and when you came back down, you looked disturbed. Now tell me what's wrong." Alexander's concerned tone makes me feel like I need to tell him everything, but something in me is scared to do so.

I move my head to the side, taking my eyes off from him. He then moves his hands onto my cheeks, cupping them, moving my head back, to meet his eyes. He raises his brows, I let out a sigh, knowing that I have to tell him.

"Did you tell me the truth?" Is all I let out. I was kicking myself for asking that, but it was like my mouth took over without consulting my brain.

Alexander shakes his head, letting out a confused grunt. He waited for me to explain further.

"Do you want to have kids with me?" I ask. I realise I wasn't making any sense right now, but I was so fazed by everything, there was no order in my head.

"What is all this? You're not making any sense right now. Of course, I want to start a family with you, you know this, why would you ask that?" Alexander replied in a whisper. I could feel his tension, he was starting to feel worried for me. I didn't want him to feel like this, I couldn't help myself for making him feel like this.

"Lucinda told me you never wanted kids, you made her feel isolated and that you cheated on her." I winced at my words as they left my mouth.

Alexander's hands instantly dropped, away from my face. He stares like a lost soul; he takes a few steps back.

"Are you seriously believing her over me?" He stammered. "How can you even think that I would ever cheat? You see this is what she wants, she's putting words into your head and she's trying to drive a wedge between us."

"Can you blame me? I was cheated on, my whole world was flipped upside down, so I'm sorry for being scared that it'll happen again!" I exclaim as my whole body starts to shake in pure sadness. My eyes gleam with tears, they start to fall down my cheeks.

"So was I!" Alexander snaps back. He places his fingers on the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes.

Suddenly it felt like my heart had been twisted. This was the first time; Alexander and I have had a slight clash. I've never seen him express anger, but right now he was quivering with it. I didn't know if he was angry with me or Lucinda.

I take a few steps closer to him, but he turns away walking towards the door.

"Where are you going?" I ask in between my sobs.

"Out! I need some air." He shouts back, without even looking at me.

I look at the time, realising that we had to go to the office.

"We need to go-"

"I'll meet you there." He hollows out, interrupting me, without another thought he's out the door.

I stand there, alone in our home. This was all my fault. Why did I doubt him? I should have never let my mind overtake me, and make me think Alexander would ever lie to me.

A wave of sadness floods into me, this was the first time Alexander had ever raised his voice and walked away from me. I wanted to run after him, but at the same time I wanted to give him space. He was right to be angry with me, why did I doubt him? Why did I let Lucinda's poisonous words reflect my judgement?

My shaky hands wipe away my tears. I get my phone and send a message to the girls. Right now, I needed them, they are the ones that I trusted most, after Alexander. I wince at my thought, trust, I trust Alexander with all my heart, yet my stupidity made him see that I doubted him.

I'm sitting in Jo's cafe with Sarah, Lily and Rose. Normally I get accustomed to the rich aroma of coffee, but today nothing mattered except for the situation I put myself in.

My phone in my lap buzzes, I turn it over to see Alexander calling me, my thumb automatically declines the call.

My mind kept on replaying the small altercation I had with Alexander. If I had never said those words, he would have never stormed out.

"Louisa?" Sarah's friendly voice captures me back into the room.

I realise all the girls are looking at me with their brows furrowed. I look down at the coffee in front of me, it looked dull indicating that it had gone cold.

"I messed up." I sighed.

"What happened?" Rose asks, reaching out for my arms, trying to comfort me.

"Alexander told me everything about his past with Lucinda, but then she told me things that made me doubt him and when I questioned him about it, he looked heartbroken. It was the first time he raised his voice and stormed out. I've messed everything up." My voice goes into a quiet mummer.

My eyes started to prickle with tears again, but I ensured they didn't fall down, I couldn't keep crying over this.

"Oh honey." Rose consoled. "You're a couple, you're bound to have a few arguments here and there. It's impossible for you to have a relationship and not argue. Whatever has happened, it's nothing, trust me. I've had so many arguments with Jason, but we know each other's boundaries and we know when to give each other space."

I find myself relaxing at Rose's words. If anyone could understand and give great advice, it's Rose. Jason and Rose were madly in love with each other, they understood each other, they knew how to console one another.

"You haven't messed anything up." Rose continued. "You're human, you're bound to have emotions that take over. And I know for a fact Alexander regrets storming out, you just need to go and have a heart to heart with him. Iron out these small things."

I hold onto Rose's had, gesturing for Lily and Sarah to join.

"Thank you." I gush. "I needed this. I think I should go back to the office and talk to him."

The girls nod in unison, I take it as my mark to get up and leave. As I get my bag, a woman comes to our table, standing close to me. I look up, lifting my brows at her.

"Are you Louisa Watts?" She says in a sinister monotone voice.

I nod and she hands me a white envelope. In a matter of seconds before I could say anything, she's gone. It's like she disappeared into thin air.

I look at the girls, their heads were turned to the envelope in my hand. I wearily open it up, I take a quick peak and could see it was a collection of photos.

When I take the photos out, my heart sinks to the pit of my stomach. I felt layers of unsettling emotions pile up on me. I gasp in exasperation.

I'm looking at a range of old photos of Alexander and Lucinda. My shaky hands flick through each picture. Both Alexander and Lucinda look quite young, but in each picture they looked very much in love. For some reason I feel a wave of jealousy slither around me.

I slam the pictures in the middle of the table for the girls to look at. They each gasp as they take turns looking at them. I try and search for that mysterious woman, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"Stupid bitch." I growl, I abruptly get up from the seat, but Lily captures my arm, shaking her head.

"Don't." She plainly says. She knew what I wanted to do, but I saw her concerning look, I knew she was right I couldn't storm over to Lucinda, not when our project for the houses was nearly done. I couldn't risk ruining everything, Lucinda had the power, she could easily back out and we would have lost our business deal with her.

"I'm going to the office." I snap, snatching the photos and shoving them in my bag.

As much as I was flooded with hurt and anger by these pictures, as I didn't know what the intention for them was, my priority was Alexander. I wanted to make sure we were okay, before anything else.

When I stumble into the office, I'm suddenly wrapped into Alexander's arms. He pulls me close and lowers his head into my neck. I feel his quick breath fan my skin.

"Where have you been?" He asks lifting his head to meet my eyes.

"I was with the girls at Jo's cafe." I respond, holding into him.

He lets out a reassured sigh. "Shit, you had me worried for a second, I rang you and you weren't picking up."

"I'm sorry I-"

"No, I'm sorry, I should have never raised my voice and I should have never left like that. I should have understood how you were feeling, I should have sat down and talked to you like an adult."

Alexander's eyes mist over, as he displays sadness of what he did. I shake my head, placing my hands onto his cheeks, soothing him with my thumbs.

"I should have never doubted you." I say comforting him. "I let Lucinda get in my head, I should have never questioned you."

Alexander ushers me to stop my words, he pulls me into another hug. The warmth radiating from his body, relaxes every tensed muscle I had.

"From now on, we are never letting anyone get in between us. If we argue, we stay calm and work it out like adults." Alexander suggests.

I chuckle and agree with him. He then comes out of the hug and elegantly places his lips onto mine. Passionately moulding his lips with mine, I let out a gasp. Parting away from my lips, he sends small pecks into my cheeks, nose and forehead.

Within an instant my mood suddenly changes, as I remember the pictures I received. I retrieve them from my bag.

"Some mysterious woman gave this to me in the cafe." I say, handing the pictures to Alexander.

From the moment his eyes land on to the photographs, he tenses up. He clamps his mouth closed, breathing heavily like raged bull. I could see him well up with anger.

"Spiteful little bitch." He snapped. He throws the photographs and they spiral out on the floor. Alexander charges towards the door, I quickly grab onto him, stopping him.

"Don't." I warn him. "Our project is not finished, we still need her designs. If we go guns blazing, she has the power to drop out of the contract."

Alexander was seething with anger, but I managed to calm him. I look at the pictures, as much as it was hard for me to see them, it must have been heart-breaking for Alexander to see them.

I didn't have the power to do anything, but the moment our business with Lucinda finishes, I will rain down on her like hell. She will not get away with anything.
