Chapter Twenty-Eight
"Welcome to the worst place on earth, princess." Jack rolled his eyes, cocking his head to the side as he stared at me through the bars when I walked in. He pushed his black hair out of his face, showing those beautiful green eyes of his.
I almost glared at him because of his tone, but I couldn't. Not when i'd missed him so much, not when this was the first time i'd seen him in what felt like forever. Instead I went with, "You're not in the test, idiot. It's just prison." I had been informed that he was alone in here, none of the police wanting him to possibly talk to anyone about anything.
"You're funny," He smirked. "I missed that. I mean, I also miss easily consumable meals, but seeing you awake just takes the cake." I'm glad Bridget allowed me to be the one to let him out, let me see him first. But John was waiting in the next room with Annie and it looked like she was about to rip his head off, if I had something personal or private to say, I needed to do it now. John suspected that private thing would be kissing though.
I smiled at his words, blushing as well. He always knew how to be a charmer. "I missed you too." I said, lowering my head a little and leaning against the concrete wall.
"When did you wake up? No one told me you had."
"Today."
"And you're already up and walking around even though last time we were warned about such? Rebellious. I like it." He said. "Where'd you get the outfit? It's cute on you, but kinda baggy don't ya think?"
I looked at my clothes and laughed. I forgot I had been wearing the clothes Bridget's guards gave me. "I ran into a few people. It's a long story."
"Oh. A good story or a bad one?" He asked.
"They're the reason i'm here to see you." I told him, silently adding in my head that I was also here to free him. "I'd say it's a good one with a few rough moments." He smirked.
Jack didn't say anything for a minute and neither did I. I could tell he was thinking so I let him be. But eventually, he spoke.
"Lexi." I looked back at him. His smirk wasn't so cocky anymore, now replaced with a grin that was soft and consisted of him ever so slightly biting his lip. He got up from the floor, walking to the bars that separated us and ran his fingers over the metal. "I love you."
"Crap!" I whined. "How is it that when I told you it seemed like the most unromantic thing to ever grace the earth, but when you do it, I feel like i'm gonna blow up from how it makes me feel to hear you say it? I mean, wow. That was freaking romantic."
"Well, you were in the middle of something when you told me," He told me. I went up to him, finger touching his as I stood there. He reached through the spaces in the bars, grabbing a strand of my hair and twirling it between two of his fingers. He then placed it behind my ear, or tried to anyway. He couldn't get his arm to go that far, so I tilted my head forward to help him.
When I looked into his eyes, those gorgeous eyes of his, due to our close proximity I whispered, "I want a redo."
He bit his lip again, me melting inside at the action. "Well, I can't deny a princess something she wants, can I? Fire away, Lexi. Hit me with your best shot, make me fill with emotion as you profess your love for me."
I leaned closer, our breaths running over the other's as I also heard his own hitch. "I love you." I backed up. "No, wait. I can do better. I love you! That was probably too enthusiastic. I'll try again. I love you bae. Eh, no. Too tumblr."
"Lexi!" I turned to him, my nerves still shot. "The first way was fine, what matters is that you mean it. You don't have to say it a certain way -wait, did you did call that last one 'too tumblr'? Besides, you know bae means poop in another language right? You just called me poop."
"Sorry. I actually knew that but I was nervous so I was talking crazy."
"You don't have to be nervous, Lexi. It's three words that yeah, mean so much. But once you know you do love someone, it's not hard to tell them." Jack said.
I sighed, walking to him again. I placed my hand on his cheek and watched as he held it with his own hand and closed his eyes. "I love you, Jack. I love you so much that it physically hurt me when I thought we wouldn't ever be able to make it work out here." His eyes popped open. "When you didn't remember I just..." I trailed off, hanging my head and not wanting him to see me cry.
"Lexi, did you really think that because I didn't remember you that meant that I wouldn't fall in love with you all over again?" I looked up, him wiping at a tear on my cheek. "That night, the one when your brother called me and told me to come over. I already knew I was in love with you, whether you told me what I wanted to know that night or not, I was in too deep. All I kept thinking about was holding you and being with you, hoping that my dad would stop hating you for reasons I didn't yet know about really, because I felt like we needed each other, me and you. And I do, I need you. I love you.
"I love the way you laugh even when it's filled with multiple snorts, and the way you ramble when you're nervous. The way your face turns bright red when I compliment you." He paused and I breathed deep. A smile came across his face. "I love talking to you, and teasing you is pretty great too. We have ups and down, everyone does. And I-"
"I love you too." I said over him. "God, it feels so good to say. I love you."
"I love you," He leaned closer and so did I, his lips touching my cheek. "I love you." He said again, moving closer to my lips. "I love you." He whispered. But he never made it to where we both wanted him to, the bars stopping any chance of that. "Crap, stupid prison. I hate jail."
Backing away a bit, I said with a hint of humor, "Good thing I have a key to get you out with then."
"You what?" He stared at me. "Let me out." He half laughed and shook the cell.
I did, grabbing the silver key from my pocket and placing it in the hole. Twisting, the bar door opened and Jack walked out.
"Better?" I asked. Jack just stood there, smiling away.
He then questioned me. "Why didn't you let me out before now?"
"I wanted to have a little fun. Sue me." I defended.
"Uh-huh. Wanted a little fun," He grumbled and shook his head. "What am I gonna do with you, princess?"
"Well, you could stop calling me princess like i've always asked." I suggested.
Jack grinned. "You know you love it."
"Not as much as I love you."
"Look who's sucking up for being a meany and not letting me out. Nice try, princess." Jack told me, placing his hands in his pockets. "Where'd you get a key anyway? The same place you got your clothes?"
"I'll explain later." I responded. "But tell me, how does it feel to be out?"
He quirked his lips, walking to me, placing his arms around my waist. "Like I haven't slept properly in months. And my neck hurts. But all in all, pretty good, princess." He leaned close to my ear. "How does it feel to know your boyfriend got arrested and was in prison?"
"Like i'm in a cliche love story where the good girl ends up with the bad boy," I joked, bringing my own arms around his neck.
"Is that a good thing?"
"It might be." I said. I was closing the distance between us obviously, but Jack just smirked and pulled away.
"Come on, princess. We should probably get out of here." He grabbed my hand.
I huffed a bit, but tried not to whine. "We were kinda in the middle of something, Jack."
"Trust me, I know that, Lexi." He gave me a look as I pulled my arm away from him. "I'd like to get some answers on a few things. Let's go."
He walked out of the room before I could, me totally confused with the entire conversation. I walked out after him, hoping to get an explanation. "Jack, what in the he-"
The second I was out of the room, Jack had a firm hold on me, bringing me closer and causing his breaths to fan over my own. He didn't say anything, he just kissed me, first on the cheek, next on the lips. It was only for a split second and I felt like smacking him for letting go, my heart beating wildly out of control from the surprise.
Oh boy! What a great surprise though.
"I was just having a bit of fun. Sue me." He said, mimicking the words I had just used when explaining why I hadn't let him out sooner. I bet he thought he was being funny. He then leaned closer again, mouth by my ear and his hand lightly touching my arm. "This conversation is only on hold." He lightly pressed his lips to my forehead, causing a shaky breath to escape me. "It will be continued."
I slowly nodded, a blush forming on my cheeks. He grabbed my hand, and then we walked out to John and Annie.

I'm kinda just sitting over in the corner, bursting out tears of happiness from the feels i've been given in this chapter.

Dedicated to the @the_bad_writer because I read one of their works recently and for some reason they weren't getting noticed like they should(they're actually pretty good so i'm a bit confused on why this is the case). That and they're an amazing reader just like you guys.
And i'm really sick right now which is just great(sense the sarcasm)...
