PROLOGUE
The heavy downpour was washing everything away, every sign which could prove what happened there the previous night.
"It's finally over," said Isabel. Her voice depicted a sundry expression, of joy as well as sorrow.
Leonor understood the cause. He had been staring at the gigantic cobblestone, from which everything had started. He walked to Isabel and held her firmly in his arms, assuring her that from now everything will be alright.
"Yeah," said Leonor, smiling back at her. Though it wasn't a fake one, it covered a lot of pain and suffering which they had gone through.
"But what good of it came at last? We just lost the people whom we loved the most! They will never return, they are gone, forever and ever," tears burst out from her crystal clear eyes.
Leonor held her face in his hands and wiped the tears with his thumb.
"Their sacrifice wasn't wasted. It is of no good to us but it was necessary for our human race so that no one else has to go through what we have faced," Leonor turned around, hiding the moisture in his eyes.
Isabel hugged him from behind.
"You have always been like this, neglecting your own bruises for the good of others. I know what you are going through right now. You lost your best friend, who was more like a brother to you," Isabel said the fact that he had been trying not to think of.
When Shawn was stabbed, Leonor had been so busy closing the seal that he could not even go to save him. He still thought himself to be guilty of Shawn's death.
"If I had gone to save him, then he surely would have been standing with us right now," he said. He couldn't control his emotions.
"The ones connected with the prophecy never had a good life."
"That's what makes me believe that whatever we did was not a waste after all. At least the coming generations can lead a normal life without any chosen one, without any freaking destiny waiting to be fulfilled... But what if we are wrong, this may happen all over again, Violante may rise again."
Isabel came in front of Leonor. She was befuddled with what he said just now.
"Are you kidding? How can you even think such a thing? You did what you were supposed to do back there, then how the hell can that thing rise again?! Are you hiding something from me Leonor?" said Isabel in a loud and harsh tone which was enough to startle a person, only if there was someone except them.
She wanted an answer. Leonor tried to shake it off but Isabel was not ready for it.
"I- I am not hiding anything from you." His voice stammered.
Leonor was avoiding eye contact with Isabel. This made her even more suspicious.
"It is not that I don't trust you, but the thing is that I cannot convince myself that you are not hiding anything from me."
"Calm your horses down Isabel. I was just worried, nothing else," said Leonor.
"We have gone through a lot together. You don't have to hide anything from me. I have always been and will always be by your side," said Isabel holding Leonor's hands. Leonor could feel the softness of her hands as well as her heart.
"Sorry I need to go. I should go and meet Andrea. She must be taking care of the fields alone all this time. She'll probably kill me and I don't blame her for that. I haven't been there to help her for so long," said Leonor, getting away from Isabel.
"I will be waiting for you at the bank."
"Please don't. I need rest; all this has taken a lot out of me. You do not expect a fisherman's son to go through all this. I might be sleeping for a few days," said Leonor covering up.
Isabel didn't say anything else. Her head hung down.
Leonor turned his back towards her and hurriedly went away from her sight. He could not face her any more with such a secret buried in his heart. If he stood in front of her for a minute more, he would have spilled out everything.
He directly went to his home and locked himself in. He soon fell asleep.
"Wake up Leonor."
Leonor was still sleeping but that voice sent chills down his spine. The hair behind his neck stood up. It was Violante's voice.
Leonor opened his eyes. He was no more in his room; he was now floating in some kind of cosmic space. There was no floor. The black sky with tints of purple and maroon surrounded him. He had been here several times before. That was how Violante talked to him. But this time things were quite different, Violante was sealed now, and he shouldn't be troubling Leonor anymore.
"How are you talking to me? I sealed you down there," said Leonor in a horrified voice.
"Why are you so shocked Leonor? We were friends, weren't we? Are you not happy to talk to me?" Violante laughed his evil maniac laugh.
"We were never friends. We were enemies since the day I was born with a destiny to throw you back into the place where you came from. You pretended to be my friend so that I would leave the side of good and join you in your evil motives," argued Leonor.
"We could have been friends but you rejected my offer of immortality and ultimate power to rule over this realm, you were as stubborn as the previous chosen ones- fighting for the good against all odds."
"I didn't get my answer."
Earlier Leonor was afraid of hearing Violante's voice but all the changing circumstances had made him much more bold and brave than ever before.
"Did you ask anything? "
"How are you here, talking to me?"
"I don't have to answer you. You already know the reason and that is bugging you since you have returned. I should thank you for that."
Leonor felt devastated. He failed.
"NO. That cannot be."
"Calm down Leonor, and accept the truth. There is no other way around. You don't have to regret it so much. There is nothing wrong with thinking about your own good; that's what we devils do. The previously chosen ones also did the same thing and that's what makes me immortal. No one is actually strong enough to trap me, forget the thought of killing me." Violante laughed even louder this time. His laughter echoed in the space.
Tears rolled down from Leonor's eyes. Everything he did was now a waste.
"Not exactly a waste. You managed to seal me here for quite a long time and this happened only just because your feelings were strong enough," said Violante. He read what was going on in Leonor's mind.
"What would happen after that?" Leonor still couldn't snap out of it.
"You know that better than me. All this will happen again but this time, the ending will be in my favor. This time, I will win." A wide grin came on his face.
Leonor suddenly started falling down. The force that kept him levitating was gone. While falling down, he could see all that had happened. He closed his eyes, surrendering himself to whatever awaited him.
When he opened his eyes, he found himself to be back on his bed, soaked in sweat. It was a dream but was more real than reality itself. It was still midnight.
In the darkness of the night, he sneaked out of his home to reach the cliff where he was talking to Isabel in the morning. A surge of strong, cold winds pushed him as he ran through the night. Even the lake on his way had turned violent. He could hear frantic cries of wolves from the woods.
All this clearly indicated a bad omen to him.
He felt as if his body didn't want to get to that spot. He pushed his body to get there. It was too dark to see anything clearly. He suddenly realized that maybe he could still use his powers.
He raised his right hand above and gently swiped it across the sky. It worked! He could make the clouds move. The moon came out.
In the twilight, he examined the same giant rock. His legs gave in and he fell on the ground. The prophecy had reappeared on the rock. Whatever he went through was to be undergone by someone else in the upcoming future.
Violante would rise again. Clouds of the threat still covered this realm once again.
"But this time, the earth is not the only domain which is under threat." He heard a familiar voice. He turned around and saw that it was Archangel Ariel, one of the Watchers.
Muffled burst sounds in the clouds and growth of nature all around marked her arrival.
"What are you doing down here? And what do you mean?"
"You have no idea how bizarre the situation is going to be. The upcoming battle is going to shake all the nine circles of hell and the nine spheres of heaven."
Leonor felt terrible. He felt so helpless; for he couldn't even be there to help them clear the mess he had created.
"What if the next chosen one also fails, as I did?"
"Too much is at stake this time. Losing the battle would mean losing all the realms."
"Why don't you, along with the rest of the Watchers, fight against him? Why doesn't God intervene?"
"The universe has its own scheme of events, and we must follow that to maintain the balance. Non-intervention of God only means that there is still hope, or maybe... there's no hope at all."
