The following is a story that I wrote with my daughter.  After many years of procrastination, I was challenged to either stop talking about writing a book, or write the blessed thing.  All I can say now is that I wished I started twenty years ago.  My great discovery was that the writing process is fun (despite those early attempts of mine that petered out after a thousand words - I have pages of them).  Not only that, it encouraged my daughter to start writing too.  After being allowed to see her work recently (she is a very private person) all I can say is that I am full of immense pride at seeing someone develop into a truly skilled writer - even at her young age.  Not only that, I can also say I had a hand in helping her start.

The Prisoners of Solitude is an old fashioned adventure story that has been heavily influenced by a diet of B movies, Alistair Maclean novels, and Indiana Jones movies.  There are no vampires or werewolves.  There is no love interest.   This is a simple story of an ordinary boy looking for his father, trying to avoid dying in the process.

Oh, and there's a really horrible woman too.  Really horrible.  And gunfights.  And explosions.  And a giant seaplane.  Actually, there's quite a lot going on.  You'd better just read it to find out.

Further note - A number of readers have been exceptionally kind and have advised structural changes.  This was my first attempt at a novel.  I can see that certain things need sorting out - paragraph lengths, POVs, story direction, dialogue tags to name but four.  I have decided to post the whole story, then resolve all the problems in a final edit after posting.  Thanks to all who have helped so far and please do pitch in if you have anything else to add.
