Part 45
-Pyhrra pov-
I breathe heavily, barely managing to avoid a fireball from this woman. She has the powers of the Fall Maiden. I could tell from the first few clashes between us that I was fighting a losing battle. The best I can hope to do is give everyone time to escape. If the safety of everyone at Beacon comes at the cost of my life, then I'm glad to pay that cost. She isn't going to hurt Jaune, no more than Jaune. She isn't going to hurt anybody while I have a chance to stop it. When I think of Jaune, even for a second, my mind goes to him pushing me away from him after I kissed. I try to shake it off, and focus on the fight in front of me. And yet, my mind keeps going back to him and keeps drifting.
Cinder takes advantage of my distraction and then launches a fireball my way. As I hold up my shield to block it, she smirks, and then flies behind me. Shards of glass fly for me, as she watches with sadistic curiosity. I can't deflect both the fire and the glass. She's making me choose how I die. Either by burning alive, or by being impaled. However, her smirk vanishes when several arrows pierce the glass pieces and drop them to the ground. The two of us look to see the source, and see Leliana in the middle of a flip. As she lands, she fires to more arrows at Cinder, both of which the woman incinerates. Leliana lands next to me, and waits until the fireball vanishes to step closer to me.
Before I can thank her, Cinder sees her and laughs. " This is simply too much. I get to kill the both of you in one go. Both the so called " Invincible Girl" and then run away assassin." My eyes widen when she says this, which Cinder notices. She turns to Leliana. " Tell her. Or should I? Should I tell her you were once one of the best assassins we had ever worked with? The families you killed and tore apart for money Until one day, you finally found a principle you wouldn't compromise. You wouldn't kill a baby girl. As if that made up for everything else you had done."
I look at Leliana, asking her with my eyes if what Cinder is saying is true. To my surprise, she nods. " It is. I did terrible things for them. But, I'm not the same as I was back then Pyhrra. I've changed, and am a better and different person." For a moment, I weigh her answer. Before I can say anything, a surge of power radiates from Cinder. Clearly, she and I have more pressing matters to attend to. She knows it too, as she sends several arrows for Cinder, all of which she manages to deflect.
However, using the opening I throw my shield for her. Using enough glass, she stops it, and then I thrust for her chest with my sword. Grabbing it, she throws me back, and I flip. Using my Semblance, I force my shield through the glass, and catch her in the side of the head with it. As Cinder stumbles back, Leliana catches her through the calve with an arrow. The two of us start to work side by side, gradually gaining the upper hand. Cinder may have more power than the both of us combined, but she doesn't know how to fight. Leliana and I on the other hand have years of combat experience. Right now, however she got hers doesn't matter to me. I'm simply grateful she came back to help me.
However, our advantage eventually ends when Leliana runs out of arrows. Seeing this, Cinder smirks and then throws a storm of glass towards her. " I'll kill you first," decides Cinder. Before I even have the time to think about it, my body moves, and I intercept the shards. Blood drips from me, as the worst pain I've ever known floods through my body. " Making me kill you in the wrong order," mumbles Cinder. " But, it doesn't matter. I'm going to kill all of you anyways."
I fall to the ground, and Leliana cradles me, much to my surprise. " Out of respect and gratitude for your work in the White Fang, I'll allow you to have a moment with her," says Cinder. Leliana turns back to me, and tries to sing a song to replenish my aura. However, she must have been doing this all night for her team. She's exhausted, and has nothing left to to give.
" I'm so sorry," I tell her. " I know how much you must hate me. But, thank you for coming back for me." To my surprise, tears begin to drip from her eyes, and her voice almost gives out on her as she tries to finish her song.
" I don't hate you," she says, shocking me. " I was just jealous that you and Jaune were closer than I was ever going to have the chance to be with him. I was just paranoid that he was going to leave me for him."
" It would never happen," I say sadly. " He's in love with you. He tells me almost every time the two of us are together. I'm sorry I kissed him."
" Don't worry about it," she says kindly. " I know I would be lost if I fell in love with him, and he chose someone else. I know you love him. And, I'm so sorry it didn't work out for the two of you."
My eyes grow heavy. Turning to Leliana, I manage one more smile. " Tell him I loved him please," I request, and Leliana nods. " And, please...take care of him?" She nods that she will, and then I smile. I finally let go. My limbs grow heavy, and my eyes shut, for what is going to be the last time.
-Leliana Pov-
Pyrrha turns to dust right in front of my eyes, and scatters. I rise to my feet, and then turn to Cinder. " I'm going to kill you," I shout, and then throw myself at her, determined to take her apart even if all I have to do it with are my bare hands.
" No, you won't," she says simply, impaling me with one long shard of glass. I drop to the ground, and barely manage to stay awake. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Ruby run in. She processes the scene in front of her, and I notice her eyes burst into pure silver before I pass out.
( let me know what you thought.)
