After fighting Grimm for sometime, you make your way down to the ruined temple. A small smirk escapes your mouth when you see that the 'relics' Ozpin hyped up were just chess pieces. Looking around, you also see a cloaked young man. He's probably as tall as you, or around that area. His katana hangs from his hip, and you can see two blades jutting out from the hilt. Eventually, he notices your eyes on him, and he turns around. He gives a smile as he pulls down his hood, revealing his black hair and blue eyes. " Hey," he says, walking over to you. He holds out his hand. Reaching out, you take it. " John Rayner," he introduces himself.

Nodding, you give him a smile. " (y/n) (l/n)," you tell him. He drops the handshake, and then looks at the pieces. " So, I gotta ask. What's with your katana?" John looks at you in confusion, before grabbing his katana out. This confirms for you that it has two blades sprouting from the hilt.

" My katana is called Slasher," he says. " It has two blades because people aren't used to fighting something like that. It can sometimes allow me to catch and break blades between it. What about your sword? When you got launched, I saw it literally turn into a whip to wrap around a tree."

You give a laugh at his joking tone of voice. " I call my sword Zabimaru. I had a friend tell me once that it's an old word for ' Snake Tail.' Yeah, hopefully it actually means that as opposed to something else."

This makes John laugh. " Well come on," he says. " What chess piece do you want? Whenever I played, my favorite was the king." Giving a shrug, he reaches for the black king piece. Before he can grab it, the shrill caw of a Nevermore rings out. Looking over, you see Ruby chasing after the Nevermore, and Weiss being carried by the Nevermore.

Lashing with Zabimaru, it extends into different sections to pierce the underbelly of the Nevermore. It caws in pain, and lets go of Weiss. Zabimaru returns to the normal state, and then you run over to Weiss. Managing to get there just in time, you catch her in your arms, bridal style. She opens her eyes, and sees you. Weiss gives a smile, before thanking you. " No problem. Guess Snow Angels don't fly huh?"

She punches you playfully, and then asks to be set down. Jokingly, you act like you're just going to drop her, but instead you set her on her feet gently. As she gets up, Ruby makes her way over to her. More and more teams make their way over to the temple, like the blonde girl from last night and the girl with the bow. Another duo that runs in is Phyrra and Juane, running from a Deathstalker. This would be crazy enough, but another pair comes in, riding on an Ursa Grimm.

The blonde lets out a load groan, and flames burst from behind her. " Ugh! Can't crazy things just stop happening for one minute?!" When all the partners make their way to the temple, the blonde calms down, and the fire fades away. " Great! Gang's all here. Now we can all die together!"

Brief introductions are made, before everyone gets separated by the two attacking Grimm. You stand with John, and Weiss and the others, on the cliff, watching as the Nevermore flies closer. The six of you talk about the game-plan, and when it gets closer, you put it into motion. Whipping with Zabimaru, it grazes the Nevermore. However, it dodges most of the damage. This was just a set-up for the girls to light it up with their ranged weapons.

When the Nevermore gets closer, John leaps in. Using the two blades of slasher, he stabs both of it's eyes, causing it to cry out in pain. Yang runs in, and delivers an uppercut which sends it reeling. She gives John a flirty smirk, and he shoots a wink. However, when the Nevermore reveals it hasn't died yet, he instantly regains a serious demeanor.

" Can't this thing die," you mutter, releasing the ranged form of Zabimaru. Weiss casts a glyph on you to increase the energy of your strike, and it takes off one of the wings. Smiling at her, Ruby comes over and coordinates an idea for a group attack. She pulls your group into a huddle, and then gives you the details.

First, Blake wraps the rope around Yang, and flings her. She shoots the Nevermore in the head before Blake pulls her back onto the cliff. As the Grimm staggers, you extend Zabimaru. Blake hops onto it, and when the sword reaches the Nevermore, she hops off and peppers it with bullets. As Zabimaru returns to normal, she jumps back on, and lands with your group. The Nevermore flies back at your team. Weiss uses one of her glyphs for ice beneath where John stands. It launches him at the Grimm, and he anchors Slasher into its beak, effectively shutting it. Then, Ruby is launched by a glyph from Weiss, and slashes the Nevermore in half.

Using various abilities, you get everybody back onto the cliff. High-fives and congratulations are given all around. You fist-bump with John before walking back with the rest of them to the auditorium. " Oh hey," says Yang. " I didn't catch your name earlier."

He winks at her. " John Rayner. But, you can call me anytime." This makes you cringe, but Yang nods at him. Jokingly, she points out how he doesn't have her scroll number. Laughing, he hands her his scroll. " See, I thought it was broken since it doesn't have your number in it."

The two of them laugh, as Ruby asks confused and innocently what exactly is going on. Weiss rolls her eyes at their antics, before coming up to you. " You know, Zabimaru seems like a far cry from the sword you wanted that was taller than you. It's still impressive though."

You give a small chuckle. " Well, the teachers also didn't think a weapon taller than me would be practical. But, I am pretty happy with how Zabimaru turned out. I am impressed with your rapier. Looks just like the blue prints from when we were kids. Also, I have nothing but respect for you being able to fight in heels and a dress."

She rolls her eyes, and playfully punches your arm. " It's a combat skirt," she says, and John makes a heart at you two with his hands. Rolling your eyes, the six of you make your way into the auditorium. Ozpin reads through a list of team names, and then gets to Weiss.

" And then, we have Ruby Rose. Weiss Schnee. Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long. The four of you shall be known as Team RWBY, led by none other than Ruby Rose." You clap, but notice Weiss's face takes on a crestfallen appearance briefly, before returning to normal. You know she had hoped to be team leader.

Ozpin looks at you and John briefly. " And finally, we have (y/n) (l/n) and John Rayner. The two of them received the Black King piece. The two of you shall be on a team, who's name you can come up with on your own. When and if we get transfer students, they will be placed on your team."

Smiling at this news, you make your way down to the dorms. And, your smile gets even bigger when you see it's right next to Team RWBY's dorm.
