Rin - "I can't believe you guys got us detention. I thought collective punishment was illegal. What did you two dumbasses do to cause this?!"

Rin sat against a wall next to Lusine. Against the wall to her left, sat Izumo and Paku. On the wall to Rin's left was Bon and Konekomaru. Across from them was Séan and Shima. They were in a smaller classroom where they were barely a few feet away from each other.

Séan - "Uh -"

Rin - "It doesn't even matter! Now my record for detention free school years is ruined! My tail is killing me and I can't even relax because I'm stuck here! More importantly, it's Lusine's first exorcist class and she doesn't even get to enjoy it because of you two!"

Lusine - "Rin, calm down -"

Rin - "I will do no such thing! This was a rare day when Fujimoto wasn't supposed to be here, and I was gonna enjoy it and...now...now I cannn't..."

Rin's head drooped down and soft snores emanated from his newly silent frame. Séan and Shima both breathed a sigh of relief. Their violent scolding from their normally laid back classmate was terrifying.

Bon - "He has a point. What the hell were you idiots doing that got Okumura pissed?"

Shima and Séan locked eyes and shook their heads violently.

Izumo - "Dumbasses, they were taking pictures of you and Shizoku while you were sleeping. I swear to god you're all such idiots!"

Paku - "Calm down Kamaki."

Konekomaru - "Can't we just sit here in silence until we're allowed to go home?"

Rin - "I want to go home now. I'm going to have such a crick in my back by the end of this."

Lusine - "What kind of demons are these?"

Séan - "Well, my dear Lusi -"

Rin - "Séanan Dmitri Burke-Rose, if I hear you speak within the next ten minutes, I will rip your tongue out."

Shima - "Lol get full named."

Bon - "I'll kick you in the dick if I hear your pink haired ass."

Both boys shut their mouths quickly with sweat dripping down their foreheads.

Konekomaru - "Miss Lusine, to answer your question, these are Bariyon. They're the kin of Amaimon, the Demon King of Earth."

Paku - "They're usually demons who inhabit rocks and the exorcist teachers here use them as punishment."

Rin - "I haven't had detention since I was eight, my pristine recond, gone."

Lusine - "It's not all that bad, why don't we just have calm conversations getting to know each other? It is my first day here and all."

Bon - "As good an idea as any. How'd you get your temptaint, uh -"

Lusine - "Yukimura Lusine. I'm Rin's partner in chemistry and our teacher was an idiot and irresponsible. She forced Rin to participate on a project involving chemicals, and he passes out and gets severe chemical burns on our arms; his right my left, his right leg, and tail. Jellie stung me when I caught his head from colliding with the table corner."

Rin's tail wrapped around her wrist with a look of guilt and sorrow.

Rin - "Sorry again, Jellie was startled and she didn't mean to sting you."

As if summoned, Jellie appeared and hooked her tentacles in both Lusine and Rin's hair.

Konekomaru - "I've been meaning to ask, what kind of demon is Jellie?"

Rin - "Séan, you explain better than me."

Séan - "Right, so Jellie is technically her own type of demon, though still a kin of Lord Egyn. When Rin turned three and I was four and three quarters. She was washed up on the beach, drying out and dying. Lord Egyn gave it some Gehennian seawater, and poof! Now we have a sweet demon jellyfish familiar for our sweet soft boy Rin."

Rin's tail thrashed irritatedly.

Rin - "I was going to make dinner with Ukobach, Sammy was going to come over for dinner, and Dad was going to watch movies with us."

Izumo - "Will you give it a rest?! We get it, your night was ruined because of these two idiots. So shut up already!"

Rin's tail left Lusine's wrist and squeezed tightly around his ankle. His nails were now digging into the chemical burns on his left arm. A deep growl emanated from Séan's throat and chest.

Séan - "Listen here, bitch, you do not speak to Rin like that. I don't care who you think you are, but Rin does not deserve your bitchiness. Get this damn thing off me!"

Séan started struggling under the bariyon. Rin remained dead silent, staring blankly at the bariyon on his lap. Thin streams of blood dripped from the nail punctures on his arm. The lights unexpectedly cut out. Rin snapped out of his stupor and took his bracelet off. The glamor on it dissipated revealing Egyn's trident. He pointed it at Séan and a jet of water soaked him in seconds.

Séan's scales formed and they were an angry red, orange ombre. The area around him glowed with the red-orange light. The light gradually changed to a lilac-turquoise color as he calmed down.

Séan - "RiRi, you okay?"

Rin ignored him and reduced the jet to a sprinkley-mist to keep Séan wet so they didn't have to be plunged into the dark again.

Shima - "Damn dude, you're a multicolor glow stick!"

Séan - "My dude, my buddy, my guy, now is not the time. Rin, do I need to contact your Pa?"

Lusine - "Rin?"

Séan - "Crap, he's gone nonverbal. This is your fault, bitchy mcgoo!"

Rin couldn't speak. His throat felt far too tight and his mouth uncomfortably dry. He was scared, couldn't place why. His left ear twitched when something tapped the ground outside. It sounded like a semi-wet animal paw hitting the linoleum. He could smell the rotted flesh of some kind of animal, making him gag.

Rin - "Sha?"

Lusine - "Rin, are you okay?"

Rin - "Nnn, Sha!"

Rin was growing irritated and the mist's strength was increased to a solitary shot straight at Séan's face.

Rin - "Sha! Dn! Gho!"

Bon - "Yo, Rin you good?"

Séan - "Who the fuck let a ghoul in the building? Rin, I'm getting your Pa."

Séan snapped his puka necklace from his neck and slammed it against the bariyon until the shells were broken. When the pieces fell to the ground a ghoul possessing a large dog or wolf smashed through the door. Paku screamed and held onto Izumo's arm. Bon and Shima started struggling to get out from under their bariyon. Lusine remained quiet, but Rin heard her breathing pick up.

The beast sniffed the air before making a beeline for Rin and Lusine. The trident reacted by trapping the ghoul in a bubble and lifting it from the ground. A separate ghoul in a bigger canine quickly moved toward Rin and latched onto his chemically burned arm. He couldn't scream, whether or not that was a good thing to not freak out his classmates more, he couldn't say.

It was blinding. The ghoul's jaw felt like it was going to snap his arm in half. He could feel his skin ripping and giving way to its fangs. His head was getting dizzy, like the one time he mistook his dad's wine for his cooking wine. The bleeding part of his arm was burning, but the rest of his body felt like it was dunked in an ice bath.

Séan - "Rin!"

Blood dripped down his arm, saturating the side of his shirt and pants. It wasn't long before he was sitting in his own blood. He could feel the bile rising from his mostly empty stomach. The temperature of the room dropped before Rin could really vomit.

"Veh afac wkop pc jon"

The ghouls in the room became still and the one attached to Rin's arm shakily let go. It was lifted from the ground by its neck and an invisible force squeezed until the neck was obliterated and head and body were separated. The trapped ghoul was stabbed repeatedly until the water was murky with its blood.

"Jéanan. Ftah ij voinv on teke."

Egyn's body materialized and he immediately started tending to Rin's wounds.

Séan - "SomeandShimagotusalldetentionandmeandIzumogotintoanargumentandRinwarnedusoftheghoulsandthey -"

"Jéanan. Yalp xofn. Cou ake noh in hkouzle. Nof, ftah tammenex."

Rin's head was throbbing. Like a really really bad migraine. He felt the bariyon in his lap crumble to pieces and he might've as well have crumbled with it. He lay on his side in his blood.

"Gakiniuj! Reem couk ecej omen! Gakiniuj! JAPAEL!"
