Rin's tail swayed behind him lazily as he walked through the village. His pet jellyfish floated beside his head with one of her longer tentacles wrapped around a lock of his hair. Jellie was a neon blue and black demonic jellyfish that his father gave him for his third birthday. Jellie would live as long as he did unless outside forces intervened. She usually floated next to Rin with one or more of her tentacles attached to him in some way. 

Being demonic, Jellie had no need to be in water. She lived mostly out of water 'swimming' through the air. However, after being introduced to water, Jellie swells to ten times her original size, roughly the size of a small fishing boat. For her care, she required two cups of seawater a day for food and up to six hours of natural sunlight. It worked out perfectly because Rin loved the warm sunlight of her home and preferred to be outside and loved relaxing in the ocean for hours on end. 

Rin lived in a mostly secluded town on a sunny, sandy beach created by his father. Akamaru Beach was a safe haven for demon-human couples and their Nephilim children. Rin went to school with the other children run by his father and some of the other parents. They were taught normal school subjects like math, human history, demon history, science, etc. They also got taught about their different heritages, demonology, how to control their demonic powers, and how to make a human disguise. 

Rin knew his father was his older half brother, but he raised him, so he's his father. Egyn made sure he knew why he was in his care when he was ten. When he was old enough to understand. Besides, despite being three and a half feet tall, Egyn was an amazing father.

Rin was turning fifteen soon. His best friend Séan Burke was getting the letter of if he was accepted into a school or not, so Rin was headed to his home to either congratulate or play emotional support. 

Rin - "Séan, I'm here!"

Rin let out a yawn as he heard the pounding of feet running through the house. The door was yanked open by a half siren, half human. Séan's scales were shimmering a bright pink and light purple to show off his excitement. His opalescent eyes were practically glittering.

Séan - "RiRi! I got in! True Cross Academy accepted my application! Isn't that awesome?!"

Rin - "That's great Séan, but isn't True Cross that human exorcist school?" 

Séan - "Part of it. Most of it is the highest acclaimed educational school in Japan! And I got in!"

Séan yanked Rin into a tight hug. Rin smiled back and pressed his forehead to Séan's. 

Rin - "When do you have to leave? Want me to help you pack?"

Séan - "True Cross is sending this year's class rep with the principal to personally welcome me!"

Rin - "But True Cross is a human school. How would humans know how to get here?"

Séan - "Yeah that's pretty sketch. Wanna get your Pa?"

Rin - "Yeah. Jellie, go to Dad and tell him we'll be having two unknown guests arriving from True Cross."

Jellie gave Rin a gentle zap from her tentacle and swam through the air until she vanished in a pop of water. 

Rin - "Dad's still gonna be a few minutes. We should have our human disguises ready, just in case."

Rin's ears became shorter and more rounded, his slitted pupils also became circular, his tail wrapped around his leg and disappeared, his fangs shortened into normal human canines, the fires on his forehead (in lieu of horns) vanished, and his claws shortened.

Séan's scales blended into his dark brown skin, his rainbow streaks of hair turned black to blend in with the rest of his hair, his claws shortened, his opalescent eyes became light brown human eyes, his two rows of razor sharp teeth shortened and one row vanished, and his finger webbing and gills blended in with his skin. 

Rin let out a great yawn and smiled languidly at Séan.

Rin - "When are they supposed to get here?" 

Séan - "I think Headmaster Faust said around noon? It was if-y at best."

Rin's head snapped up, sniffing the air. 

Rin - "I smell a demon and a human."

Séan - "New neighbors, mayhaps?"

Rin - "Maybe. Keep your glamor up just in just and let's go greet them."

Yukio followed Mephisto through the door frame to a lovely, if not seemingly deserted, beach-front village. 

Yukio - "Why am I here again sir? I have classes to teach and classes of my own."

 Mephisto - "We are here to greet some new potential students. And to have a reunion."

Yukio rolled his eyes and texted his father to start prepping his classroom for him. Father Fujimoto raised Yukio as he planned and now Yukio was a highly acclaimed Exorcist Doctor. 

They two walked through the village until Yukio stopped dead in his tracks. As did the boy in front of him. This boy had messy, shoulder length navy blue hair, perpetually sleepy, intelligent, deep blue eyes, tanned skin, light aqua blue painted finger and toenails, a silver circlet with two sapphires and one ruby, a red and blue puka shell necklace, and an identical look of confusion as his own. 

It was his long lost twin brother, Rin. 

Rin - "Uh, hello to both of you. I'm Shizoku Rin and this is my best friend Séan Burke. Welcome to Akamaru Beach. Would either of you like some refreshments?"

Mephisto - "Pineapple mango milkshake, my dear boy." 

Egyn - "Rin, do not speak with him. Leave at once Samael." 

Yukio's neck might've snapped with how fast he looked down at a tiny three and a half foot demon with a golden trident with three deep sapphires under each prong with the biggest being in the middle. He had light brown skin, golden eyes with slitted pupils, a puka necklace that matched Rin's, and a golden circlet with two sapphires and an emerald in between them.

Rin smiled lazily at his father and picked him up and squeezed him in a hug. 

Rin - "Hey Dad. Thank you Jellie."

Jellie made herself visible and floated next to Rin's head, reattaching her tentacle to his hair. Rin held onto his father and rested his chin on his head. 

Egyn - "Hello to you too, my son, Séan. Samael, you are not welcome here. Why must you disturb my haven?"

A rhetorical question from an equally exhausted and exasperated father and village leader and demon king. 

Mephisto - "I'm just here to welcome young Mr. Burke to True Cross Academy."

Egyn - "Like I would trust you and your word. I know how you work, little brother. There's always more to what you say than what others perceive."

Yukio - "Time out! Can someone explain please?!"

Séan pulled Yukio aside. Rin put his father down and followed his best friend. 

Séan - "Basically, my bestie's Pa got beef with your boss."

Rin - "Pretty much. Hey, Shizoku RIn."

Yukio - "You already introduced yourself."

Rin - "Sorry, I'm a bit forgetful. What's your name?"

Yukio - "Okumura Yukio. Your village is quite beautiful."

Séan - "Thanks man! We pride ourselves on our architecture."

Rin - "Yup. It's fun to build a house. It's a good project for the village to welcome new neighbors."

Egyn - "The answer is no, Samael!"

Séan - "Yo, what's up?"

Mephisto - "Mr. Shizoku has the final say since it involves him, no?"

Egyn - "Samael, I swear to Satan -"

Mephisto - "Mr. Shizoku, would you like to attend True Cross Academy with Mr. Burke?"

Rin - "Okay."

Egyn - "Rin?!"

Rin - "What? It'll be interesting. Besides, if I don't he'll just go to Luci and tell him about Akamaru. I don't mind becoming an exorcist and going to the highest acclaimed school in Japan on Sammy's coin to protect Akamaru."

Yukio - "How'd you understand what they were talking about?"

Rin smiled lazily and yawned. 

Rin - " 'Sides, it'll be interesting to see new places, meet new friends, and maybe actually learn something new along the way."

Séan - "So to be clear, they know about demons and what have you?"

Egyn - "Samael is the Demon King of Time and Mr. Okumura is a highly regarded Doctor Exorcist and the tenth son of Satan. You may drop your glamors if you so please."

Yukio's eyes bugged out when he saw the more demonic form of his twin brother and the other boy. Séan's scales were shining a calming dark blue and lilac and Rin was petting Jellie. His movements were getting much slower than they had been. 

Egyn - "Rin, if you truly wish to go, I will not stop you. However there will be some rules."

Mephisto - "Really brother, rules?"

Yukio/Egyn - "Shut it."

Egyn - "Humans, as you know, fear and despise Satan. If the fact gets out that you are his Nephilim child, and you are in danger via the Vatican, you are to either return home immediately or send Jellie to fetch me. 

Rin - "Sound's good, simple and logical."

Egyn - "Second, I don't want you to hide your true appearance. I will create a glamor for you, so your flames are water instead. One moment."

Egyn snapped his fingers. Rin's forehead flames turned into tiny pools of shimmering water. Similarly colored water swirled around his tail in graceful rings. 

Egyn - "This glamor is tactile as well as physical. However, I did not lock your fire. If you summon your fire, you'll have to let me know so I can reapply your glamor. To keep up the appearance of your demonic powers being water based, you may have my trident. The gems are infused with a fraction of my power, so you shouldn't have issues with rogue demons or humans."

Séan - "Ooo~ Swaggity."

Egyn - "Rin, you have permission to introduce me as your father, however, not to the Vatican or to any teachers outside of Yukio and his teaching mentor. I haven't any trust for the other Exorcists." 

Rin - "Okay Dad."

Egyn - "Séan, you will be attending Rin's Exorcist classes with him, so make sure my son is safe."

Séan - "Gotcha! Imma show them Exorcists' the Burke way of doin' things!"

Mephisto - "Wait just a moment Egyn, what makes you presume control over my class roster?"

Egyn - "I know you knew Rin was here. I know you knew about Akamaru Beach. I know you would try to enroll both boys into your exorcist program, in the same class no less, purely for your own entertainment. Tell me, Samael, what exactly am I presuming?"

Mephisto - "Hmph. Well you didn't need to be so crass about it." 

Rin let out one final yawn and started swaying unsteadily on his feet. Séan quickly got in front of Rin and pulled him onto his back. Rin was completely passed out and his tail was now hanging from Jellie's tentacles so it wouldn't drag in the sand. 

Yukio - "Rin?! Is he okay?!"

Egyn - "Don't worry Mr. Okumura. Rin suffers from Narcoleptic-Insomnia. He can't help slipping into unconsciousness at random points throughout the day and night. He doesn't get much sleep overall so he supplements his energy with food and whatever sleep he does manage to get."

Yukio - "I'm a doctor, I know what both conditions entail. Does he take any medications I need to be aware of? He and Burke will most likely be placed in my dormitory."

Egyn - "Rin does not take medicine no. His body metabolizes the medicine too quickly for it to take any real effect. He does drink warm tea and honey to try and sleep and he is infatuated with energy drinks. They too get metabolized too quickly, but they trick his brain that he has new energy that wasn't there prior to the drink, his words."

Rin peacefully drooled on Séan's shoulder, uncaring to the world around him. 

Séan - "Whelp, I'm taking sleepy pants to go pack up."

Egyn - "House keys."

Egyn threw a pair of keys attached to a cute seashell and starfish keychain. Rin caught the keys with his head still buried in Séan's neck. 

Rin - "Thanks Dad."

Séan - "Bro, are your legs working yet?"

Rin - "Not yet. Yukio, you can come with us. It'll be nice to get to know my twin brother."

Yukio - "You...already knew?"

Egyn - "Of course he does. My son knows who he is, where he came from, and why I took him from that monastery. Now off with you three. Pack your things and return. I will have some words with Samael in the meantime."

Séan - "No problemo Mr. Shizoku! Follow us KiKi."

Yukio - "K-KiKi?!"

Rin smiled at his brother and best friend. Séan led Yukio to Rin's humble home. A simple one story beach house on stilts to escape high tide. Chipped white paint showed the house had stood for many years. Faded children's drawings could be seen close to the ground by the front door. Rin had clearly grown up in the house since infancy or, at least, childhood. 

Rin was let down and he stretched and fell backwards into the sand. Séan started laughing hysterically while Yukio stared, dumbfounded, at his sleeping twin. Séan heaved Rin back on his back and unlocked the front door. 

Séan - "I'd welcome you and force RiRi to make refreshments, but I -"

Rin - "Shove your head in the toilet."

Rin got off Séan's back and stumbled into a kitchenette complete with an island counter with three stools, an oven, a fridge, and a sink. Rin moved like a blur throughout the kitchen. Yukio barely kept up with his movements until Rin was right in front of him with a tray. Three orange-pink smoothies and a big bowl of melon balls sat atop it. 

Rin - "Strawberry, passionfruit, mango smoothies and watermelon and cantaloupe balls."

Séan - "Oh my beloved! You treat me so well!"

Rin - "Yeah yeah. Save some for Yuki."

Yukio smiled nervously and took the offered metal toothpick. He stabbed a melon ball and dipped it in his smoothie.

Yukio - "It's good..."

Séan - "RiRi makes the best food! You should try his braised pork and mountain melody sushi! Or his sushi in general! He's awesome in the kitchen!"

Rin smiled and playfully kicked Séan's shin. 

Séan - "Welp! I'm going to get a headstart packing our bags. I'll see you out here in exactly three minutes and twenty eight seconds. I leave my RiRi in your more than capable hands."

Séan downed his smoothie and left the twins alone. 

Yukio - "Your home is gorgeous. More homey than the monastery."

Rin - "The house is made from Abyss Eclifer and Gehenna Carbon. Dad had a hard time teaching me to control my strength when I was younger, and ended up replacing the Assiah wood and steel with those from Gehenna. Abyss Eclifer and Gehenna Carbon are manufactured specifically for homes with demon children because they lack control of their strength. The Gehenna Carbon has this dark gray color during the day, but an ethereal dark blue hue in the moonlight."

Yukio - "You're quite knowledgeable about resources from Gehenna."

Rin - "Yeah, Dad teaches us all about the flora and minerals that grow there. The Abyss Eclifer is a massive species of tree that grows from the ocean floor to about fifty meters above the ocean's surface."

Egyn - "Boys, as endearing as it is for you to be getting along like this, we must really get to packing."

Yukio jumped when Egyn appeared out of nowhere to their left. Rin smiled and lifted him into another hug with his chin on his father's head. 

Rin - "Did he manage to weasel you into it?"

Egyn - "Unfortunately. Father Fujimoto Shiro is one of the teachers at True Cross, and I'd have to be blessed out of existence before I let him spread false promises and lies into your big naive brain."

Yukio - "That's right, you don't like Fujimoto."

Egyn - "Not in the slightest. Now, go get packing. Anything you forget, we can just retrieve later with this key."

Egyn held up a strange key with, what Rin could feel, some kind of demonic energy.

Mephisto - "Eins Zwei Drei! A simple token of my gratitude!"

Egyn - "Get out of my house, Samael."

Mephisto - "Boo, you're no fun. Come along Okumura. We must prepare their rooms at True Cross."

Rin - "I want to share a room. I don't mind if it's with Yukio, but make sure there's a bunk bed in whatever room I end up in. If I room with Yukio and there's only two beds, Séan can and will squeeze into whatever bed he pleases."

Mephisto - "How about a big room for all three of you?"

Séan - "That works for me! I got top bunk though!"

Séan smiled and started leaning on Rin's shoulder. Rin side stepped him and started leaving for his room. 

Rin - "I'll see you at True Cross, Yukio. Séan, I know you're not done packing." 

Séan followed after Rin like an overexcited puppy. 

Séan - "I'm so excited! My bestie and brother from another mother is going to school with me! This can't possibly get better!"

Rin - "I bet it could."

Séan - "How?!"

Rin smirked and held a finger up to his lips. 

Rin - "It's a secret."

Séan - "Boo, you're no fun."

Rin smiled and kept packing away some essentials. He'd seen it. The way Séan looked at Yukio. Yukio was Séan's type and was definitely a possible mate for him, although the siren-nephilim was as oblivious as a sunfish when it came to his own lovelife; a trait he definitely got from his mother. A lovely woman, but jeez, Séan's father told them it wasn't until their third year dating did she realize they were actually dating. 

Rin looked around his room with a bit of a frown. He spent his whole life curating his room to his likes and needs, now he had to do that all again in a new environment. 

Séan - "That's what happens when you move into a dorm room RiRi."

Rin - "I was walking out loud again, wasn't I?"

Séan - "Yeah, your tism is showing, but it's okay Rin. Whenever you want to come back, we have that magic key and we can go skinny dipping! And, plus, me and your Pa'll be there, so at least you won't be alone."

Rin - "Not in the ocean you're not."

Egyn - "Boys, are you ready?"

Séan - "Yeap! Rin's just a wee bit upsetty that he can't bring his whole room with him."

Egyn - "Rin, I will get you new decorations for your room, but remember that you will be sharing your room with a human. Séan was pretty much raised alongside you, but Yukio was not. He will have different interests, so decorate your room accordingly."

Rin - "Okay Dad. Our classes start tomorrow, so I want to get decorating and organizing out of the way as soon as possible."

Egyn closed the bedroom door and unlocked it with the key.
