Chapter 6
Louis's POV
I liked Gemma, I really did. She was a really sweet girl and had a great personality, but I'm sure if I loved her or not. My mother said that when she realized she had fallen in love with my dad it felt like everything was perfect and nothing bad could happen. When I look at Gemma I didn't get that feeling.
The first time I saw her she was wearing pink. Pink was a nice color on her and nobody else was wearing it so she kind of stuck out. So I decided to talk to her and after talking to her for a while I realized that she was really sweet.
Then I saw her brother. Gemma had told me she had a brother, Harry, but I hadn't known that he would be at the ball. I would be lying if I told you that Harry wasn't at least a little cute. I liked his messy curls the most, but he also had startling green eyes; unlike his sister's brown ones.
"So Harry, what are you interested in doing in the castle?" I ask him. After I introduced Gemma to my mum and dad, I had left to find Harry. My father said that he was fine with letting the boy stay with us as long as he helped out.
"Uh...I don't really know," I was sitting on the edge of his bed; whereas he sat in the middle of the mattress.
"Do you have any hidden talents?"
"I'm pretty good with food I guess," Harry throws out. I glance down at my lap and notice his hands and how awfully huge they were. I get a shiver down my spine as I imagine what holding his hand would feel like.
"So you wanna cook?" I suggest as I bring my attention back to his face. He really was gorgeous now that I could see him close up. I feel myself wanting to lean forward, but I keep myself from doing so. He coughs, breaking my gaze.
"More along the lines of baking. I'm an okay cook, but I'm really good when it comes to like breads and cookies," Harry explains. A baker? Damn that just made him a little cuter.
"I don't think I could see you as a baker. You look more like a gardener," I point out. His eyes widen and he shakes his head.
"God no. Stepmother made me garden every once in awhile and I hated it. I'm not one for much physical labor if I'm honest," Harry explains. I picture him outside working on the garden and it's honestly one of the hottest things I've ever seen. I can see him pulling his hair out of his face and into a pony tail or even a bun. He would be all sweaty, but it would work for him. God I needed to stop this. I glance at the clock trying to find an escape. If I stayed here with him any longer I knew that I would end up doing something that I would regret.
"Okay, well I've got prince duties to do, so I should be on my way." I pat the boy on the back before leaving. I had fibbed a little; I didn't really have work to do. I was probably going to end up visiting one of the older maids.
I walk down the hallway, until I find her room. I knock twice before entering. She was sitting in a rocking chair in the corner, knitting. Her think black hair, was now starting to gray a little. She wore a simple dark green dress and had a pair of reading glasses sitting on her nose.
"Oh, Louis, I didn't expect to see you," She says. She sits down her knitting needles and smiles at me. I walk over to her, kissing her cheek.
I explain, "Yeah, I was just talking to Harry about his new job he'll have to get. I guess we finished early," I add as an after thought. She picks up her needles and starts to knit again. I sit on the ground at her feet. I may have been 18, but that didn't mean I couldn't sit with her like I was a child.
"That's nice, but don't you have better things to do then come and visit little old me?" She sighs. She always told me that she loved to visit and talk, but she always felt like a burden to the castle. She had gotten too old to do a lot of work a couple years ago, but my father insisted that she stay here since she had no family and he had been loyal for many years.
"I was wondering if we could have a talk," I say. I had been meaning to talk to her about the whole Gemma situation. It was always nice to have someone that was far older than I was around for situations like these when I needed advice.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" She asks. I bite my bottom lip as I look down at the floor.
"I'm getting married soon, to a very nice girl named Gemma," I tell her. She rolls her eyes as she takes of her reading glasses and tucks them into her dress pocket.
"I heard! Congratulations! I wasn't sure if it was true or just a rumor spreading around," She says excitedly. She had known me since I was a baby so I was sure that she would be excited for the day I would be married.
"She's really nice, but I don't know if I love her or not," I say. Her expression falters for a moment. She nods and looks down at me.
"Well, you know how your mother gets when it comes to something big like this. I think you should just go along with the wedding and see what happens. If you end up falling in love with her than that's good, but sometimes it's just not meant to be, my dear," She explains.
"What do I do if I don't end up falling for her?" I ask. She sighs and thinks for a moment.
"If it's that much of a problem you can always get a divorce, but I highly recommend you try your best to stay away from that. Most royal relationships aren't even made with love anyway, it's always a show. I'd say that you just stay married to her and find happiness in someone else as long as she says that it's alright," She suggests. I open my mouth to speak, but I'm interrupted as the door opens
"Louis! There you are!" I turn and see Harry standing in the doorway. His eyes widen as he looks at us.
"Harry? What are you doing here?"
"The king wanted you to go to town with me to pay for some new gardening tools," Harry explains. She gives me a look before nodding. I stand and dust myself off before bending down and kissing her cheek.
"Thank you for the advice. I'm sure I'll be seeing you around some time soon." I turn towards the door and head off with Harry.
