Prologue: Is Love Truly Lost to the Kingdom of Spade?
(Yes, I was this salty with Disney. Thank gods I still have Kingdom Hearts and Twisted Wonderland. Without that, I would not care. Anyway, I did look into the Card universe of Hetalia with this and made some changes. Honestly, not a bad one. The gangster one is still my favorite, but it is a good one! Enjoy!)
Once upon a time, there is a grand kingdom with vast green fields, magical casters, and wonder as far as the eye could see. The people lived in harmony with nature and magic around itself. This was a beautiful, silver age for the queen who ruled the great kingdom of Spade.
She ruled her wonderful kingdom with strength, determination, smarts, kindness, and wonder. With these traits, she was able to unify her people and bring a new age of peace. She was able to bring good relationships to the other four kingdoms and established good exchanges.
No harm came to her precious kingdom and soon enough, she was blessed with five wonderful children that inherited her talents as well as her magics. The queen couldn't be happier and loved her sons so much. She only wished for them to live lives filled with happiness, adventure, and love. She would've traded her life to ensure that her sons would never live a life without love.
Her oldest son is Duncan. A strong young man with brown and red hair and serious, dark green eyes. He inherited his mother's strength which is obvious by his stature and constant training with the knights. Duncan loved his younger brothers and would always look after them with protective fiery blue flames.
The next son is Sean. He was lean with bright, orange hair and hazel eyes. Determination ran throughout the young man as he would do anything to help his brothers, especially Liam. He is friendly to almost anyone. He has his mother's determination as well as her lovely gentle yet powerful grass magic that could snap back at anyone who dared harmed him and his brothers.
After him is Dylan who threw himself into learning as much as he can to help his family. He has wavy, pale blonde hair and green eyes that shined with a hunger for knowledge. His knowledge and wisdom are vast that is a gift from his mother. He is always there to provide answers and solutions to his brothers whenever he can. His winds are straight and true that will always hit its mark and cover his brothers.
Liam is the next sibling who has short, red hair with bangs covering one side of his face. His green eyes were filled with kindness and a dash of nervousness at times. He can be rather noisy and make a few jokes to lighten the mood if he can help it. Going with the flow of his family, the water is at his command and there to aid his brothers whenever they need his assistance.
The youngest brother is Arthur. He's the shortest brother with messy, blonde hair and bright green eyes. Despite being the youngest of four brothers, Arthur is blessed with wonder for what could be possible outside of their lives and kingdom. He is very short tempered and always ready to defend himself and his family with the powerful lightning magic in his hands. Even if he hides it, he truly cares about his brothers and kingdom very much.
She truly felt blessed to have such wonderful children that she knew would rule and look after their kingdom and people together. Until that time, she would love and protect her children, even if it meant losing her life to ensure that they will live theirs to the fullest along with the kingdom.
Little did the queen know that her vow would come true. On a stormy night, a terrible plague engulfed her kingdom as if it were a blanket of darkness that washed over her kingdom to rip out the love she poured into it. This illness had taken root in Arthur.
He was growing weaker and weaker with each passing day. His skin was paler with the illness taking a great tool on him. His brothers were by his side and trying everything they could to help him. Nothing worked. The queen was comforting her children, reassuring them that everything will be fine.
She would ensure of it. Using her magic without her advisors or children aware, she transferred Arthur's illness to her. Day by day, Arthur would recover, but the queen was grower weaker and weaker. It was more apparent with each passing day until the queen was completely bedridden.
The whole kingdom was in mourning at the news of her failing health. Her advisors knew she didn't have time left as well as her children. When she knew her life was coming to an end, the mother gathered her children one last time to speak with them.
"Duncan, please look after your brothers" she spoke softly as she affectionately ruffled his hair, "Use your strength and fire to protect them and the people"
The oldest brother refused to cry and only nodded his head as his grip on Arthur's hand was tight. Their mother knew he was being strong and rubbed his cheek in a warm manner before turning her attention to Sean who was letting his tears fall.
"Sean, always use that determination of yours" she whispered as she did her best to wipe his tears away, "Don't let anything ever stand in the way of you and your brothers in any situation"
Sean simply nodded his head as he let his tears fall and hold himself together. He had a hand on Liam's shoulder who was bawling at the sight of their mother dying. Their mother whispered comforting words to him while holding his cheek.
"Ah, Liam, keep using your kindness and joy. Sometimes, they will need to laugh despite the situation itself" she said sweetly before tapping his nose, "So, don't forget to smile with them"
He tried his best to smile, but his lips were quivering with snot and tears falling from his face. He couldn't keep it in anymore and cried. Liam turned to hug Sean and not look at his dying mother. Sean simply held him close while staring at his mother to nod at her with his tears falling.
Dylan tried his best to dry his tears, but his mother held his hands to whisper, "Dylan never stop thinking and creating new solutions to anything. Even if you cannot see a way out, there will be a way out. I know you can find it whenever you and your brothers are in danger"
He nodded his head vigorously with his tears falling and scattering around them. He tried his best, but he let out whimpers and cries of his own before falling to his knees.
Arthur was confused to why his brothers were crying and why his mother was not with them. She knew her youngest didn't understand the situation and felt pain that Duncan would be the one to explain it to him one day. Instead, she held her hand out to Arthur's.
"Mama, what's wrong? Why are they sad? What's happening to you?" Arthur asked with his green eyes wide with wonderful wonder that she loved to see.
She simply laughed at him and answered warmly, "Nothing is wrong. This is how life works. Your brothers will be sad, but they will be fine again. They will love and care for you, but you better do the same with them. Never stop wondering, Arthur. The world is vast and something to share with your brothers and friends you make along the way. Can you promise me that?"
"I promise, mama!" Arthur vowed with a bright smile as his brothers were sobbing behind them.
"What a good boy. Then, I will have nothing to worry about since you're together and will be ok" she spoke with a peaceful smile as she let him go back to Duncan.
Within the hour, she passed away. Duncan was set to inherit the throne and take care of the kingdom. Outside of her room, the brothers sobbed and held each other tightly throughout the day, refusing to part from each other. Her funeral would be held next week.
The whole kingdom mourned and grieved at the loss of their wonderful queen. Everything happened so fast for the brothers as life and her advisors pushed them apart by force to carry out their respective duties. Soon enough, the brothers rarely saw each other during the day. They only shared dinner together, lucky if Duncan could even join them.
Duncan began to learn the ways of running the kingdom, Sean threw himself into studying the land, Dylan was kept busy with his studies, and Liam was trained in manners and etiquette. This left Arthur to learn his studies alone without his brothers near him.
All five brothers missed each other dearly, but they kept working diligently with hopes of being together again. Once Duncan was nearing age to be king, he dismissed most of the advisors who separated them and reunited with his brothers.
"BROTHER!" they shouted in relief, delight, and utter joy at being reunited.
They embraced each other warmly, but all realized that Arthur wasn't among their embrace. The brothers pulled apart from each other to see Arthur standing there. He was stunned and not moving at all. Duncan was the first to stand up and hold his hand out to his little brother.
"How have you been, Arthur? Sorry, that took so long, but we're here now" Duncan greeted in relief.
Arthur hesitated as he placed his hand in his oldest brother. He didn't expect to be pulled into an embrace with Sean jumping from behind, Dylan to the right and Liam to the left. The brothers were reunited. This should've made Arthur happy, but he felt he was missing something in his life as he wondered and gazed out the windows to the outside world before them.
He wanted to get out there and explore the vast world before him, but his brothers refused to lose him like they did with their mother. Instead, they would keep up with their work and hand out tasks to run the kingdom. While this did prove to be effective, it also created distrust with their people.
Since they never saw the royal princes and lack of security, thieving and petty crimes were occurring. People were slowly losing faith in their kingdom and were deciding if they truly wanted a royal family. With the seeds of doubt sowed, distrust grew. Thankfully, Prince Arthur Kirkland of Spade's wonder with the world would lead him on a grand adventure where he would meet a fateful person who would help him save their kingdom together.
"But alas, that is all the time we have for this part of the story" a kind, dramatic voice of the prince consort of Spade spoke while waving his head back and a hand to his head.
"Aw!" three wonderful, childish voice spokes in protest causing the prince consort to only laugh.
The three bundles of joy are his adoptive kids along with that of his husband who is one of the kings of Spade. This is a title he shares with his brothers.
"But I wanna hear how Arthur fights his brothers for freedom, papa!" the loudest son asked who a twin brother to the quietest other son.
His name is Alfred Franklin-Jones Kirkland. He has dirty blonde hair and excited blue eyes. Despite how young he was, he was smart and had strength that surpassed most kids around his age.
"You always want that Alfie. I want to hear about how Arthur learns to love" his twin brother, Matthew, spoke softly while holding a stuff white bear close to his chest.
Matthew Williams Bonnefoy is Alfred's twin brother in physical appearance, he was very different from his twin brother. His hair was much softer than his brother. Instead of brilliant blue eyes, Matthew has soft violet ones. Much like his twin, he is very smart and strong.
"Story! Story!" their youngest little sister spoke excitedly as she is waving her hands up and down.
Michelle Macham Bonnefoy-Kirkland is a small, young lady with a bright expression. She has her brown hair tied into two ponytails with red ribbons. She has golden eyes and fills with energy and excitement for the world.
As for the prince consort, his name is Francis Bonnefoy who ruffled their hairs and spoke softly to them. With well cared, blonde hair and striking blue eyes that resembled sapphires. He did have a stubble and had some muscle, not a lot. He is a handsome young man that gave his love to his precious little family.
"I thought I heard the sounds of little gremlins laughing instead of sleeping" his husband, Arthur, spoke with a sigh as he was leaning against the silver door to the children's bedroom, "Why are you up this late?"
He sat next to his husband who took his hand to press a kiss before whispering softly, "Nos enfants couldn't sleep. I couldn't abandon them to a sleepless night, so I thought of a wonderful story to share with them in hopes of getting them to sleep"
"Oh? And what story are you telling them?" Arthur asked curiously as he let his affectionate husband hold him close.
"The Prince and the Baker!" the twins shouted in delight with one voice being softer than the other and Michelle cheering in the background.
Arthur held a knowing expression to Francis who smiled warmly.
"Why do you always tell them that story?" Arthur whispered seriously as he tried to remind his husband of his role, "You will fill their heads with childish fantasies and wild ambitions at this rate"
"Ah, but would that be so bad? It if weren't for your ambitions, would have met?" Francis asked softly as he pressed kisses to his husband's cheeks.
"Ew! Stop being gross!" Alfred complained as he gagged before falling into his bed.
Arthur sighed as his face flushed to comment, "When you grow up, you will understand one day"
"As if!" Alfred protested strongly, "When I grow up! I'll be a hero! No kissing and falling in love allowed!"
Oh, Arthur missed being that young. Regardless, he could see that the children would not be sleeping any time soon. He would need to fix that and help with the story.
"Well, then let's continue the story then. Now, where are we? Did Arthur leave the castle yet?" he asked, feeling delight that he was one of the main characters in the story and could tell the tale.
"Not yet!" his children shouted as they eagerly waited for their parents to continue the tale of the prince who fell in love with the outside world and the baker who guide him through it.
