Chapter 12: Act of True Love Part 2: To Save Those You Love

(And this is the final! I am so happy everyone loved this story! It means a lot to me! I didn't know who would actually enjoy a new Hetalia piece and take on the characters since it has been a while. To be honest, seeing Hetalia again made me so happy. It was like I was talking to an old friend again! So, I am so happy to be back and writing stories for them. Also, totally a coincidence that this is released when the mafia UK brothers debuted... Enjoy!)

Francis was unaware of the light emitting from his and his prince only to open his eyes and see it pouring from his prince!

"Arthur?" he whispered as he still held the prince and felt the same wonderful warmth from him.

Smiling lovingly at the prince, the baker only held him and waited for Arthur to return to him when he noticed the wound was healing. Slowly opening his eyes, the prince weakly stared at his baker's loving expression.

"My love?" Arthur asked weakly as he gazed at Francis who pressed a kiss to him!

Both were laughing and holing each other warmly, utterly relieved that the other was safe from death and harm. Tears of joy and relief fell from them as they didn't want to let the other go. Arthur ran a hand through Francis's blonde locks as Francis cradled Arthur's head close. A warm light seemed to be protecting them as they refused to let the other go.

"No, no, no!" the ring yelled in frustration as the couple turned to it waving the axe downward, "I killed you! You should've died! How are you there?!"

The couple sat up with their hands joined as they faced the ring, refusing to even part from the other.

Arthur spoke first in an obvious tone, "Because I love this wonderful frog. It did take me a moment to realize it, but my love for him is powerful, just, and true. That is enough for me"

Francis would've swooned if they were not in a perilous situation to agree, "Oui, this man is the most delightful lapin I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Mon amour for him is right, real, and strength. That is all I could ever ask for in my life"

The ring let out another frustrated yell before charging at the couple who stood up, holding their hands tightly.

"Don't you dare let go of my hand, Francis" Arthur said seriously as he focused on the ring.

Francis only chuckled as he replied, "Arthur I will never let you go"

Taking a stance and preparing themselves, their grip was tightened before the ring as a flash of light appeared. Before them, a beautiful, glowing rapier appeared with lightning sparking from the blade. Francis took the rapier as Arthur's hand had lightning gather around it. Both held the blade before letting the ring charge at them.

"Ready?" Arthur asked seriously.

"Oui!" Francis answered before taking a swing with Arthur following his motions as lightning was bursting from his hands.

The ring swung the axe as Francis clashed his rapier against it to have Arthur cast the final bolt of lightning to work with the rapier before grabbing Francis's hands to help him hold the blade. They're combined efforts stunned the ring as it held an expression of horror and disbelief. Despite everything it did, those two continued to stand in its path! No matter what, they were together through it all and wouldn't turn back! The devotion and care the couple have for each other is more powerful than the ring realized!

"No, no!" the ring cried out as it looked at the hand to see the ring itself breaking, "I can't lose! I refuse to die here! I cannot be beaten again by her magic! I will ensure you defeat one of the coming days! You will rue the day you slay me for darkness will wash over you and everything you love!"

The ring began to crack as the couple put more pressure and force into the rapier and lightning. Letting out a yell, the couple swung the blade downward to break the axe and destroy the ring! It let out a horrified scream before grabbing hold of Antonio's body. Francis was ready to lunge after them only for Arthur to hold his arm and prevent him from doing that. They were blasted away as the ring shattered, releasing the darkness that was trapped inside of it. The couple held each other, but Francis wondered how they were going to stop that as Arthur held a confident expression.

"You have nothing to fear, because we are not alone on this" Arthur reassured him by taking his hand in his.

The baker stared at the prince only for them to hear a loud yell followed by a thud where the doors were knocked down by Duncan and Sean.

"Tu vas bien!" Clarisse exclaimed as she rushed to embrace her older brother while Dylan helped Arthur.

Duncan, Sean, and Liam stood in front of them in a protective manner as they saw the swirling of darkness ripping apart everything in the throne room with Antonio's body lying on the floor.

"If the royal couple is done, we've got work ta do!" Duncan shouted as he held his broadsword in front of himself with some blue flames burning from it, "How are we supposed to kill that thing?"

"Our mother's magic" Arthur answered firmly, "I don't know what our mum did, but that thing doesn't like the fact that her magic lives on through us. We have to use her magic to defeat it!"

"And save Antonio, but you can leave that to ma petite soeur et moi" Francis confirmed as he shared a nod to her.

Clarisse stood up and waited as Francis waved the rapier downward to make the lightning disappear. He then twirled before striking the blade into the ruined floor to unleash a wave of water towards his friend. Clarisse loaded another ice bullet before firing it on the water to create a path of ice. Francis took a running start with Dylan and Liam running after him.

"Get away from me!" the darkness spoke as it created whips of darkness to strike the baker.

"I won't let you hurt anyone else!" Liam yelled as bravely as he could before he took aim with his pistol and fire a powerful burst of water to strike the whips back!

Dylan created a gust of wind from his hands before shouting and tossing it towards the rest of the whips, "I will not let you lay a hand on those I care about anymore!"

Francis slid on the icy path and grabbed the unconscious Antonio before taking a few steps to slide back on the path with Dylan and Liam covering them. Once Francis reached the end, he kneeled in front of his little sister and love with unconscious Antonio.

"Est ce qu'il va bein?" Francis asked as Arthur quickly used his magic to check on him.

"Extremely exhausted, but he should be fine after resting for a good night" Arthur answered before stepping forward, "Now, stand back and watch us finally bring that darkness to an end!"

"Allez-y, Arthur!" Francis cheered as Arthur proudly flushed with Clarisse laughing.

"We are happy for you, but please stop with the flirting and focus on the fighting" Sean remarked as he held his sword in front of himself.

He charged forward with the blade close before running to the left side of the darkness before striking the ground to release beanstalks to prevent the darkness from escaping.

"Yeah, don't think I won't let you get out of this, ya eejit!" Sean snapped in a defiant manner with the beanstalks growing to hold the darkness in place, "You may have kicked me out of my home before, but I am not letting you do that again! This is my home!"

The beanstalks grew to keep the darkness from leaving and ensure of it to remain in place. Sean has no intention of letting it escape and running wild among his home.

"Keep it in place!" Duncan yelled as he ran to the right side of the room with his broadsword burning a blue flame from it.

He swung the blade downward to unleash a powerful roar of fire to create a wall of blue fire to burn at the darkness. It hissed in pain as it tried to claw through the beanstalks to avoid the fires only for it to crash into beanstalks.

"Ah, I won't let you get away with this, ya cow!" Duncan declared strongly as he let his blue flames consume the darkness.

The darkness screeched in pain as it struggled to find an escape only for it to find Arthur standing above the beanstalk with his lightning in his hands!

"You're not getting out of this if I have anything to say about it, you sod!" Arthur declared as he slowly clasped his hands together to generate more lightning, "No, this is where you meet your end! I will not let you hurt anyone I love anymore nor be a threat to my kingdom anymore!"

He raised his right hand into a fist to keep all the lightning in his hand before throwing it downward to unleash a bolt of lightning! The darkness cried out at the strike of lighting before Liam took aim and fired a powerful beam of water from the pistol. This was followed by Dylan who created his bow and arrows of air to strike it. Sean waved his blade to have the beanstalks whip and strike against it. Duncan took a mighty swing to cast a wave of blue fire to burn it. The darkness fell to the stony, broken floor as the Kirkland brothers surrounded it.

"How?! How am I to suffer the same fate while her offspring will live on?! Will my ambitions never be met?!" the darkness snarled before it realized that the brothers were each holding an element, "No! I refuse to let this be my fate! Not by your hands!"

"Let's finish it, boys!" Duncan ordered as his fist was covered in blue flames.

"Aye!/Got it!/Ok!/Understood!" Sean, Dylan, Liam, and Arthur shouted in unison, ready to cast their elements to finish the darkness once and for all.

Each brother took a stance as the darkness realized that it had no chance to escape from them. The brothers stood ready and held their hands ready to cast their respective element towards it. There was no way they would let this darkness roam free with the destruction it caused to their home and their loved ones and vowed to defeat it right here and now!

"Fire!" Duncan roared as he threw a blue sphere of fire towards it.

"Grass!" Sean holler before casting a stream of leaves at it.

"Wind!" Dylan bellowed as he waved his hands to release a strong gust of wind.

"Water!" Liam shouted before throwing a wave of water.

"Lightning!" Arthur yelled as he released the final element to bring a strong bolt of lightning.

Together, their elements collided to destroy the darkness from all five sides of the palace. Letting out yells and pouring everything into their elements, the elements worked together to overload the darkness and cause it to explode in a barrage of colorful fireworks and sparkles above them! Duncan and Sean pulled Dylan, Liam, and Arthur into a protective embrace as the darkness exploded above them with Francis and Clarisse holding each other and the unconscious Antonio.

Once it cleared, Duncan and Francis were the first to gaze up and only see beautiful, white sparkles descending from the broken roof of the palace.

"Are we alive or did we make it to the pearly white gates?" Sean asked worriedly as he refused to open his eyes.

Duncan only laughed before pushing Sean to release Liam and scream. Dylan quickly grabbed Sean to prevent him from falling with Arthur staring at the broken roof to see the bright, blue sky. He sighed in relief with a pleasant smile on his features as he realized it was finally over.

"Ya did it, you bunch of wonderful fools!" Duncan cheered as he pulled his brothers into a warm and crushing embrace with them shouting to be released, laughing, and shouting in agreement.

Francis sighed in relief as well until it grew into a smile as he embraced his little sister. She laughed in relief with him running a hand through her blonde hair as she rubbed her face against his.

"You need to shave!" she teased with him holding an offended, playful expression.

"You're lucky you are my petite soeur and therefore are beautiful all the time!" Francis replied warmly as he held her close.

Arthur turned to them and held a soft expression, grateful that his baker was safe and reunited with his little sister. His brothers shared a knowing expression before letting Duncan speak what was on their minds.

"Oi!" he shouted with a chuckle and wave, "What are you two doing there?! Last I checked your family now through my wee little brother! Get over here already! Join us in this embrace now!"

The Bonnefoy siblings were stunned as Arthur's face was flushing before holding a small grin. Both carefully placed the duke on the ground before running towards the Kirklands. Francis jumped to embrace Arthur as Arthur's brothers pulled Clarisse into their embrace.

In a long time, the throne room was filled with laughter, life, and love that both families were deeply missing from their lives and would never lose again.

Arthur and Francis held their faces away from each other while holding each other warmly.

"Oh, Arthur Kirkland, I love you" Francis spoke in so much love that made the prince melt.

"Et je t'aime Francis" Arthur replied in a loving tone that warmed the baker.

Both smiled softly at each other before closing their eyes and sharing a true love's kiss. They broke apart as their siblings let out a cheer and rushed to pull the new couple into their embrace.

"Ah..." Antonio groaned as he struggled to stand up, "What happened? Donde está?"

Everyone was silenced as they turned to the duke with surprised expressions. He turned to the Kirkland and Bonnefoy families and jumped before lowering his head in defeat.

"Lo siento" Antonio spoke in a saddened and frustrated tone, "I let that puta get the best of me and this happened. I did not mean to do any of this. Si, I was jealous of Arthur for being the one betrothed to mi princesa and for being con mi amigo. I believed you were trying to hurt them, but if I had only waited and done something about the ring then none of this would've happened. I am willing to accept the punishments you bestow upon me, but please do not hurt mi princesa y mi hermano"

He bowed before them as Francis nearly cried at the sight of his best friend in such a state. Antonio truly blamed himself for everything that happened even though they know that the duke only had the ring in his hand was because of his desire to help others. Arthur rose to his feet and closed his eyes as he prepared to approach the duke. Francis was a little worried about this, but he saw Arthur hold his hand out to the duke and open his eyes to hold the same understanding expression as Laura's.

"I should've said something sooner" the prince said in an understanding tone, "The truth is, I could never have that life with Laura, because she and I don't have those feelings. I am truly in love with Francis Bonnefoy and plan to spend my life with if he will have me. It was my fault for making a statement about it sooner. In a way, you're not the only way to blame for this. The fault does lay with me as well. So, if you're willing to not punish my brothers and the Bonnefoys, then I am willing to accept your punishment as well"

He held an understanding expression to the duke who teared up, jumped, and hugged Arthur tightly! Arthur was startled as he struggled to get the duke off him only for Francis to cry and shout in relief before running to embrace them with Kirkland brothers and Clarisse smiling in relief at the warm sight before them.

Outside of the castle, the people and knights noticed the vines stopped growing and destroying everything in their paths. They slowly returned to the Kingdom of Spade along with the friends of the Kirklands and Bonnefoys.

"Do you think they're ok?" Gilbert asked the most obvious thoughts on everyone's minds with care in his voice as he, Erzsébet, and Roderich arrived at the palace.

"They better be" Vlad said defensively with Lukas simply casting an ice spell to cool his fiery friend down.

João escorted Laura and Iryna to the center with him searching for his brother. Laura was holding her hands tightly as she was being as brave as she could be with Iryna holding a hand on her shoulder to give her comfort.

"You've been oddly quiet" Rajesh commented on Yao, "Do you not have anything witty to remark?"

Yao was quiet as he only gazed at the palace to speak, "Sometimes it is better to wait before striking when the iron is hot"

Rajesh groaned at his prince who only stared at the palace with a smile growing on his features. Everyone turned to the palace and found themselves soon cheering at the sight of the five princes standing there with Francis holding the youngest prince's hands and Clarisse next to him. Behind them stood Antonio.

"The Prince of Spade have returned!" the people shouted in triumph, "They're here! They've saved the kingdom!"

"Hey! That's the man!" another shouted as they pointed at the Duke of Diamonds who prepared himself for the ridicule, "Why are they protecting him?!"

Arthur and Francis stepped up and stood before the duke who was relieved to have their support but remained cautious in case they decide to change their minds about him. The people were quiet and decided to wait for an explanation.

"It wasn't him who plagued our kingdom with this destruction" Arthur said in a serious manner before lightening up to reassure the people, "He tried to help the people with his abilities, but the true enemy took control of him. All we did was save him from a terrible fate like we did all of you"

The people were satisfied with the prince's answer before Francis squeezed Arthur's hand in thanks for saving his best friend.

"Antonio!" João and Laura yelled in relief as both rushed to embrace the duke in a warm manner.

"Mis amores!" Antonio said in relief as he let them embrace him and giving a kiss to the princess.

Arthur blushed at their display of physical affection until he recalled Francis holding his hand. He stared at his baker who was holding that bright smile he had fallen for along with the rest of him. Right, there was one more announcement to make.

The youngest prince got down on one knee as he held Francis's hand. The entire crowd was silenced while the Kirkland brothers and Clarisse did their best to remain quiet at the sight.

"Francis Bonnefoy, you're the most annoying, insane, and arrogant man I have ever met. You fit the definition of a frog so well that I truly believed you to be one" Arthur said in a delightful tone with his baker only smiling with a few tears falling from his face, "And yet, I cannot imagine my life without you. Je t'aime Francis Bonnefoy. I cannot imagine a life without your kindness, justice, love, and presence. You've helped me see a wonderful world that I had always longed to see while you truly fell in love with someone who can be as stubborn as an ares. Francis Bonnefoy will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"

Holding a wide smile with his green eyes shining and declaration of love to their kingdom, Francis was too happy to even speak. He kneeled before his prince and embraced him tightly while he sighed in bliss.

Once he pulled away to rest his head against the prince, he answered without hesitation and love in his voice as clear as day, "Oui, yes, oh yes! I will marry you, Arthur Kirkland! I love you!"

Without even waiting, both pulled each other into a kiss as the crowds, friends, and family erupted into an endless cheer of applauses, yells, shouts, and joyful talks that spread from every corner and end of their kingdom. As the couple pulled themselves away, they didn't hear the yells and cheers for they only heard each other and the love they had for the other person.

Peace and love eventually returned to the kingdom as the princes were more out and about in their home and with the people. Although, before they could properly hold a wedding of sorts, they had to repair the Kingdom of Spade. Princess Laura helped with the repairs with João and Antonio helping with reconstruction of a few buildings which gave the Princes of Spade enough time to deal with the advisors who fled during the crisis to the Kingdom of Deck. Princess Iryna, Lukas, and Vlad ensured of their capture and brought the advisors back to receive their proper punishments.

Prince Gilbert and Antonio did give an early wedding gift to the newly crowned prince consort Francis. Both were able to restore the bakery with help from the kingdoms and made sure it was one of the first few buildings restored. Francis couldn't thank his friends enough for such a gift, but both only wanted him to remain as their close friend.

And now, it was the day of the wedding. Traditionally, the weddings would take place inside the grand Palace of Spade, but the brothers agreed to save repairing their palace towards the end of the reconstruction. What is more, Arthur and Francis didn't want to have their wedding inside the palace.

Instead, they held their wedding with the people as if it were the Celebrations. The people couldn't be happier and rushed to prepare the center for the wedding. It didn't matter the background of a person for everyone was welcomed to enjoy the wonderful wedding. The stage for performers was set, rows and rows of tables holding food and beverages were placed in other ends, decorations of red, blue, and white were scattered around the square, and finally there was a simple stage in the center for the couple to stand and proclaim their vows to their families, people, the kingdom, and most importantly to each other for the rest of their lives.

Duncan let out a cheer as he had whiskey and drank with his knights. Sean happily severed drinks and chatted with the people about food they wished to grow. Dylan chatted excitedly about fairytales and knowledge to the kids with warmth on his presence. Liam was delighted to dance and joke with his people to give them a wonderful time at the approaching wedding. Clarisse happily shared sweet treats while procuring trading partners, but she was there for her big brother and his wedding.

Vlad created wonderful fireworks for the people enjoy and marvel with Lukas creating snowflakes to fall gently upon them. Gilbert stood on the stage with his flute, playing a wonderful melody with Roderich holding his violin and following along. Erzsébet was standing between them as she happily sang a song for the couple. Antonio sat at the edge of the stage as he played his guitar with Laura happily sitting next to him with João pulling the people into a grand dance.

Yao delivered most of the food and helped with the decorations as well. He let his dragon fly free and danced with the people before finalizing his contract with the prince consort. Rajesh helped with food and enjoyed the dances as well, but he made sure Yao would not run off again even though the prince did give his word that he would return to run their kingdom together. Iryna happily repaired the area for their wedding and took part in the drinks and sweets as she was under the guard of the icy mage and the Nordic Crew.

All that remained were the couple who happily arrived hand-in-hand at their wedding.

"This is it" Arthur said first with a blush ever present on his features, "Are you ready, or do you want to rethink this? You will have a lot of work to do now that you are my prince consort"

Francis laughed warmly before pressing a kiss to their joined hands to reassure his prince, "Oui. I cannot have a life without you in it, mon lapin. I will not mind the work for I will be with the mon amour through it all in life"

Arthur swooned and hummed in relief. Together, they went to the stage before the people, friends, and family. Delighted and feeling warmth by being in their presence, they spoke. Each with a piece of paper of what to say and a pair of wedding bangs in their pockets.

Francis held Arthur's hands before speaking gently, "Arthur Kirkland, you are the most frustrating, handsome, and magical young man I've ever met. You're the man who has made my life into an adventure and given me the delight that I have longed to have since mes parents have passed on. I wasn't even sure if I would find love or have fun anymore. I want to continue my life et toi. Your stubborn nature, your love for tes frères, your devotion to your people and kingdom, and your endless wonder for the world. It is wonderful to see. I promise to be there for you through it all. Through illness, tragic times, anger, happy, and everything else. Arthur Kirkland, I vow to be your husband and stand at your side to love you forever"

The baker placed the emerald ring on Arthur's hand and gently holding it to give it a warm grasp.

Arthur took a deep breath as he held Francis's hand to speak sweetly, "Francis Bonnefoy, you're the frog to my rabbit. I hope you enjoy that because I will not say that again! You're the man who loved me for who I am. That is not an easy task to accomplish mind you. With you, I was finally able to see the wonder the world truly held. When my mother passed away, I was worried that my wonder for the world would've faded away until I met you. I thought you were an annoying, flamboyant, and noisy young man. Instead, I fell for the sweetest, loving, and just gentleman. I promise to stand by your side through sickness and health, the sad, joy, frustration, and all of it. Francis Bonnefoy, I vow to be your husband and be at your side forever"

The prince secured the sapphire ring on Francis's hand and softly held his hand before holding it gently.

They held each other close and were satisfied with being in a simple embrace, almost forgetting about the people, their friends, and family watching them sweetly holding each other.

"And now, you may kiss each other!" Sean shouted from the crowd in frustration as Duncan pulled him back, "And I wrong?! We want to see them get together! Just smooch him!"

The crowd laughed at the second oldest prince's comment with Arthur fuming only to feel Francis wrapping an arm around his waist and dipping him! The prince wrapped his arms around the baker's neck with a surprised expression until he held a smile. Francis grinned at the smile before pressing his lips against the prince.

A delight, loud, and happy cheers, yells, and screams at the union of the prince and the baker. Both only chuckled with each other before standing up and running to join everyone. The center broke into a wonderful dance with Arthur and Francis standing in the middle and sharing a simple waltz. They rested their heads against each other, not parting and only taking steps together. Everyone danced around them, sang, cheered, and played along with the couple.

"I love you, Arthur Kirkland" Francis said sweetly.

Arthur replied warmly, "Et je t'aime Francis Bonnefoy"

Pulling close to each other, they shared true love's kiss with everyone enjoying themselves by either dancing, singing, playing instruments, chatting, enjoying the foods, and being together. Tale as old as time, the prince and the baker were happily married and lived happily ever after
