Chapter 9

Daeran POV

The moment we reached Edoras I could feel Saruman's presence, but it wasn't his physical form no. This was like a spirit, a monster taking hold of the king and the land.

Gandalf was going to remove Saruman's hold on the king and bring King Barden back (Not king Théoden. Remember we are 635 years in the future).

Edoras itself was quite small, and everything was quiet and solum.

When we reached our destination we dismounted and made our way to the main doors.

We reached the tops of the steps and was greeted by a man banging open the doors as he made his way towards us. It was then that he made us disarm ourselves before entering.

I didn't really mind though cause I still had my magic if anything went bad. We then made our way towards the king, the doors were locked tightly behind us.

The king looked sickly and pale, his hair white and unkept. He did not seem to understand what was going on around him. Next to the king sat a man whispering in his ear.

He was clearly Saruman's henchman. He was whispering into the mind of the king doing Saruman's will.

Legolas took Gandalf's arm while Gimli and I stood beside the Hobbits. The oily, greasy man walked towards us has we to him speaking of only the bad.

"Be silent, keep your forked tongue behind your teeth." Gandalf raised his staff towards the man's face causing him to move back in terror.

It was then that we were to make our move. Soldiers started to attack us and we were to hold them off to give Gandalf room to work.

One of the man came towards me, but I easily blocked him punching him hard in the face.

I didn't want to use my magic right now, not wanting to interrupt Gandalf. I also didn't want to scare the men around us and cause them not to trust us. It would be strange for someone other than a wizard to perform magic.

Men started falling before us. Even Merry and Pippin joined in bringing down the men around us.

When the soldiers were down I walked forward to stand next to my other companions. Gandalf was at the throne he had removed the grey cloak revealing his white one underneath. Gandalf then pointed his staff at the man "Begone" he yelled.

King Baren fell forward in his throne and slowly his face became younger and filled with life. His hair turned a golden blond and his eyes cleared.

A smile graced his face as he looked to his niece Lanae who had run in earlier.

Later that day I noticed two children in the meal hall. I walked over to Rolik asking who they were and why they were here.

Apparently their village had been attacked. The people of Edoras were in danger and any survivors from the children's village as well.

A decision was decided and we were to make our way to Helms Deep. I know I have been there before when I was younger. I was mad when the king told us his decision, it would be a massacre if we went there.

It didn't have any exits other than the front, so if the Uruk hai got past our defenses everyone even women and children would be slaughtered. But the king did not listen to what any of us had to say.

I knew the others knew of the dangers, but they went along with it. We would have to move everyone at once which was very dangerous and we all knew it.

Legolas and I especially would have to watch for any dangers that might try something. Currently I was following behind Gandalf. He was leaving to find men and allies who would fight on our side. "With luck my search will not be in vein.

Look to my coming. at first light on the fifth day, at dawn look to the east." with those last words Gandalf was gone. We were on our own now.

At the start of the journey to Helms Deep I was given my own horse to ride so I could guard and keep watch.

Merry and Pippin would be walking and helping anyone who needed it. Estel and Gimli were also on their own steeds in case of an attack.

The journey was going well so far and nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but that's what worried me it was almost too perfect.

I rode over to Rolik "Something's wrong Rolik, I think we should move quicker." Rolik shook his head. "We are making good time. We can't ask these people to move faster they are already burdened."

"But Rolik I feel something wrong, we need-"

"I said no"

I sighed not bothering to try anymore, so I made my way away from the others to concentrate and look out for anything.

About half an hour later there was a cry of pain and terror. I whipped my head around "warg scouts" It was Rolik. I kicked my horse towards the commotion like every other warrior.

Legolas was already at the front shooting arrows when I came up behind him and he easily jumped up behind me. Instead of using my bow I fired spells at the wargs.

I easily fired spells that cut off the creatures head as well as placed shields around mostly everyone. Legolas fired from behind me easily taking down enemies. One of the wargs jumped on us, but I quickly shot out a blast of magic killing it instantly.

Who cares about what people thought of my magic I had to do this. We fought for what only felt like a few minutes, before I saw Rolik being bragged over the side of a cliff. I used my magic to grab him, but I was to late and he was gone from view.

"NO" I yelled. I dismounted and ran to the cliff Legolas and Gimli behind me. I looked over the edge there was a river below us. He must be with the river. I was about to say something when the king interrupted me.

"What the Hell was that?" He yelled walking towards me. Legolas stepped in front of me, but I had to face I couldn't hide behind him.

"I don't think I know that you mean." The king growled "You have magic and you didn't inform me "This has to be dark magic I saw no staff."

I wanted to roll my eyes, but kept still. "I don't do black magic as you believe. Like Gandalf I use-"

"If you can do such amazing magic, then why are several of my men dead and Estel over a cliff?"

"I tried"

"well you failed"

I sighed "I can still feel him, with the spell I placed on him. He's still alive I can go search for him."

The king glared at me for a moment but didn't answer. "I can find him, I have to" I didn't wait for a reply before heading back to my horse. I moved my horse forward before the bridle was pulled and I was forced to stop.

"I'm coming with you" Legolas said but making no move to get on as if asking for permission. "I didn't expect anything less" I said smiling.

Legolas smiled back before sitting behind me. I moved the horse forward following where I could feel the slightest hint of Rolik.

He was still alive, but hurt and exhausted. "How are you doing Daeran? We haven't had much time to ourselves." I nodded my head in agreement.

"As well as I can be I guess. I missed this" I said leaning against him. Legolas's body was so warm against mine and I wish we could do this more.

"He's going to be ok" Legolas said tightening his arms around my waist. "I do hope so. It's just we sort of got into an argument and I would feel so bad if that was the last thing we remember about me."

"He wouldn't do that, I'm sure he would forgive you"

"But it was all his fault, if he had just listened to me this might not have happened.

I was just so upset that we didn't trust me enough to listen to me" Legolas was quite for a few seconds. "I think you should be telling him this. It's not that I don't want to hear it, I just know you have to tell him."

"Thank you" I whispered.

It was several minutes later that I could feel Rolik's presence closer and stronger than before. "We're getting closer." I said moving us along faster.

Legolas and I spotted him at the same time. He was lying on his back on the gravel ground. We dismounted and rushed over to him.

He was unconscious, so we got him on the horse and moved to an outcrop of large rocks for cover. It was almost like a small cave.

We laid him down on a blanket that was in the saddlebag on our horse and covered him with another. We then took the time to very carefully check him for wounds and patch him up.

He had a slight fever, but it would more likely break in the night to early morning. Especially since my magic was helping him.

We would have to wait here overnight and see how he was in the morning.
