Chapter 10
Haldir
Daeran POV
Legolas and I rose early in the morning. I was well rested and ready to start the day. Maybe it was because I was so comfortable last night 'Blushing strongly'. I went over to Rolik checking his wounds, he still had not woken which didn't worry me, but made me a little nervous.
I wanted him to be conscious when we made our way back. "Do you think he'll wake soon?" I asked Legolas as he came back with water. "He seems to be doing fine and his fever broke. He should be waking up soon." I nodded my head.
And he was right, about an hour later Rolik slowly opened his eyes. "Welcome back" I said
He looked a little confused "You feel over a cliff after the Warg attack. Do you remember?" Rolik slowly sat up with nodding his head. "I remember. You guys came looking for me?"
"Ove course, we couldn't leave you. Now after you eat we need to be leaving." Rolik nodded his head and slowly with help rose to his feet.
Not long after we were on our way. Legolas stayed behind Rolik at the beginning of the journey while I jogged beside them. It was mainly to make sure he didn't fall since he was still slightly out of it.
About half way through we switched Legolas and I. It was a lot easier for Legolas to keep up with us than myself. I didn't like running even though I could for a long distance. By the time we reached Helms Deep It was getting slightly dark out.
The setting sun casted shadows across the land. Urging us to move faster into safety. Legolas and I helped Rolik into the healing hall before making our way to the throne room. "I hear you found him?" King Theoden said. I nodded my head "Yes sir."
"Good now get out" at first I didn't think I heard him correctly, but unfortunately I'm an elf I hear everything. "What, but your highness I have done nothing but help you and your people since I arrived here."
"You dabble in dark magic. I saw what you did out there and I will not have that here-"
"If you make Daeran leave I will leave as well" I turned around. Rolik was standing in the doorway his arms crossed over his chest. "W-What?" The king sputtered. "Daeran has done nothing to harm you, and if he leaves I will to.
He has risked everything for your people. You should not be throwing him out, but thanking him." The king signed "fine" and with that the king walked away.
That was totally uncalled for I thought to myself and probably everyone else was thinking the same thing. "Maaaybe I should keep my distance from now on." I said in a soft voice, he obviously doesn't want anything to do with me."
"I think that would be best" Legolas said smiling softly at me. "Thank you Rolik" I said moving to face him. "Would you really have left if I had gone?" I asked quite curious. Rolik sighed "Yes, but I was hoping it wouldn't come to that."
"Well thank you again."
I did as the king suggested and kept by distance, but that didn't mean I wasn't involved in what was going on. I helped pass out blankets and food to the people having to stay in the streets. I helped reunite lost family members and contributed to the King's council.
Helping with strategies and tactics. I was glad I was still invited to those I would hate to have to constantly ask Legolas, Rolik or Gimli about what was going on, which I wouldn't want to have to do.
But other than just war planning, I enjoyed spending a lot of my time with the Hobbits. Merry and Pippin always took my mind off all the bad. We would sing together and tell stories.
Some days I would help each of them with their sparring or for their own curiosity show them my magic. I always loved the look on their faces when they saw it. I loved it when they asked questions and wanted to know more. It was nice to have the distraction.
And even though there was a war going on didn't mean I couldn't find time to spend with Legolas. We would spend most of our nights together, speaking of quiet, wonderful things.
Sometimes we would just sit together not saying a word, but be in each others presence. I wish this war wasn't going than we could have more days to ourselves and we could court properly. But alas I can't get everything I want, but that doesn't mean I can't try.
"I hear word that an army is being sent to help aid us in this war." Legolas said softly. I hummed softly, A mass of Uruki were said to be marching for us and would soon reach Helm's Deep. War was only a day away and I feared for everyone.
"That is good" I said facing Legolas. I sighed and leaned against him. "I fear what is going to happen" I placed my head against his shoulder. "I am worried too" Legolas said "but I know with you there everything will be ok."
I blushed moving my head to give him a light kiss. "Oh how you flatter me so." I said chuckling. Legolas's hand moved to the back of my head bringing us into another kiss.
But this one was deeper, filled with more passion. I didn't want it to end, I wanted to be like this forever. When we parted I removed myself from his arms.
"I will see you in the morning" I said making my way to the door. Tomorrow we would be preparing and training for the war ahead. I sighed it would be a long hard day.
I relentlessly cast my magic at the targets. When I was done I would use my magic to reform them only to strike them down again.
I don't know how long I had been out here, and I didn't care. All I was focused on was training my magic, to become stronger. Not just for me but for Legolas, Gimli, Rolik, Merry Pippin, Sam, Fro-.
"Daeran come off it, you have been at it all day. I don't want you overdoing it." I didn't need to turn around to know it was Rolik speaking to me, But I couldn't stop he didn't understand.
I didn't want to lose anyone even at my own expense. But I guess I would lose them if I died. I sighed stopping what I was doing.
"I have to train Rolik"
Rolik sighed "I know you do but"
"No Rolik I wouldn't have you doing this, you thinking you can tell be what to do. Not this time." With that I walked out, not looking back.
War does strange things to man, I never really understood that until now. At least I had not for myself. It was getting late and the scouts had reported the army not a few hours away.
I grabbed my dagger from my bedside table and made my way to the armory where I knew the others would be. As I made my way down I spotted Merry and Pippin speaking quietly to each other.
"What are you doing?" I asked frightening them so much the dropped what they were each holding. I looked down noticing it was the swords Rolik had given them. "We weren't doing anything" Merry said trying to sound convincing.
"You both know I won't allow this." Pippin frowned. "If you're going, we're going too" but I shook my head. "You will fight, but not like the rest of us. I will have you at the top. How does rock throwing sound to you?"
Merry piped up slightly. "I want to fight like you" Merry said coming up in front of me. "If you can fight so can I."
I smiled "I can't change your minds on this can I" The two devils smiled. "Please be careful" I said before walking away from them, silently placing protections over them.
I made my way into the armory where I located Rolik, Legolas and Gimli. "Sorry I'm late." I said making my way to Legolas's side.
I took the quiver he was holding and strapped it around my shoulder. It was then in the distance I heard a horn blow. It was no orc horn or one of man.
I ran out the room, the others behind me. "Open the gates" I heard someone yell. I ran to the wall looking over I yelled "They're here." Rolik was the first to greet Haldir, Legolas next. "Haldir It's so good to see you, even if the circumstances are not the best. Do you bring any news from Ada?"
"He worries for you, but he wishes you the best." I smiled "Thank you" I was about to turned away from Haldir and made my way towards the others when Haldir stopped me.
"I have another message from Lord Elrond" Haldir pulled a scroll from this jacket, handing it to me. I stared at it 'should I open it now?' "I think it best you deal with it after this, I don't want your mind wondering when you need to be focused.
It was dark now and ran had begun to fall. I could hear and see the army coming towards us. I could hear the rain hitting the creatures armor and the foul noises coming from their mouths. The orcs stopped not far from us.
Everyone was quiet, waiting, but for what, no one knew. I stood away from Legolas and the others, but even form where I was standing I could still hear Gimli complain. Suddenly an orc stood above the rest yelling and roaring.
Soon the rest of the orcs started doing the same. They banged their weapons and armor, the sound was deafening. I wasn't until an archer released an arrow that the orcs marched towards the wall. "So It begins."
"Archers" I took out my bow, not wanting to use my magic now. I quickly fired a succession of arrows each hitting their mark.
I really should give the orcs more credit they were ready. They were soon moving ladders to the wall. They were easily able to get them up and get over the wall. I used my magic to push back one close to me.
"Swords" Everyone grabbed their sword as the orcs got over the wall. I blasted back quit a few, but I knew I couldn't do it forever. I stabbed my dagger into an orc's head before moving to another one. "Legolas" I heard Gimli yell.
I turned around quickly thinking the worst. "Two already" I saw Legolas standing not far away "I'm on seventeen" I sighed, everything was fine. I turned swiftly and kicked an orc where it counts. Man that felt good.
I don't know how long I had been fight or any of us for that matter, but like I said I should give the orcs more credit.
BOOM I was violently flung back by a huge explosion. All air was suddenly pushed out of me. I coughed violently before staggering to get in my feet. Orcs were pouring in now, but we couldn't hold them back.
I ran to the opening I had to seal of the opening. I gathered up as much magic as I could and flung out a shield to keep the remaining orcs out. I knew it wouldn't last forever, but it was the best I could do.
"Daeran, come on we're falling back, we need to hurry." Haldir said coming up beside me. I nodded my head cutting down orcs as we made our way forward.
"Why is the king telling everyone to fall back, we have to fight?" I yelled. Haldir was about to respond when an arrow embedded itself into his shoulder.
Haldir gave a sharp yelp, but kept running. "Haldir"
