"Ziva". Kabir said softly as she sits on the hospital bed, numbly, "It's not your fault, sweetheart".
"You are saying that the fact that my father tried to buy his mother and then continue to torture her through his grandparents is not my fault? The fact that my sick father took a new born from his mother and then asked his grandparents to hurt him is not my fault!?"
"That's exactly what I am saying. You know me, Ziva. I don't say or do things I don't mean".
"He showed me her picture". She stressed, "He said she was going to be my mother soon, Kabir! I actually thought she might just be that. I wanted my sick father who tortured and kept me in the dungeon to bring me a mother. His mother".
She was shouting. Because her heart was beating so loud and thoughts were causing a strain on her. She thought if she shouts she might just close her thoughts off.
"It doesn't matter now. They are safe and happy for years. They put their past in the past where it belongs".
"Don't you see it?" She cried, "I am a reminder of their past. The past they buried and healed from. The past that alter each of their lives. I am the reminder of their suffering. I am someone who is opening their old wound. You want me to go back and pretend like nothing happened. But that's not the case. Every time they will look at me they will remember".
She was hysterical. She couldn't stop crying. She couldn't stop shivering. She couldn't stop the memories once Kabir filled the gaps. The part of her life that she had blocked away to not suffer anymore was out in the open. Her wounds were bleeding.
"Does he know?" She asked in a low whisper, "Is that why he hated me?"
Kabir eyes narrow at her words and she saw the change in him. His body tightened at her words and his expression changed murderous. Something that she had seen when he stood between her and her father that night he rescued her.
"Explain". It was word that carried so much power that now she was shivering for entirely different reason
"It's nothing". She lied because she wasn't going to let Kabir hurt her husband, "Ignore that".
"No". Kabir said harshly, "Either you explain exactly what he did/say or I swear I will find it out my way which won't be pretty".
"Kabir please. I hurt his family. He was just angry".
"He hurt you". It was a statement and the expression on his face said he was planning on how he was going to get a payback on her behalf, "He is going to pay for this".
"No!" She shouted as she stands from the bed, "He is not paying for anything anymore".
"He will". Kabir snapped, "You are my daughter even if we are not related by blood. You are my daughter. He hurt you and he is going to pay for it. I warned him".
She cried out, "He was suffering. H-He didn't tell me anything. But I remember now. I remember my father talking about a boy. A beautiful boy with beautiful face. He said he will break him. He told me how he made sure he hurt him. Kabir, I knew everything. I know everything that happened to him and his family".
"That doesn't mean he can hurt you". Kabir was pissed, "You were a child who had never seen one day of the world. What were you supposed to do about stranger that your father was obsessed with? What could you do when you had no access to the world or any idea how you could get help for yourself much less for strangers".
"I could have ended him". She said harshly, "I could have made sure that he couldn't hurt his family by killing him".
Kabir shuts his eyes at her words and his eyes soften once he looks at her, "Sweetheart, you remember the day I brought you outside of that dungeon. Do you remember how scared you were of just sunlight? You didn't leave the room for months and always kept your binder close so no sunlight ever enter inside. Do you remember how weak your body was? How the lack of sunlight and good food affected you? You had to go through extensive experience in regards to your physical and mental health while exploring a different world. How could you have killed him? You were barely alive. It was a miracle as many doctors said".
She shakes her head, "You can't hurt him. You can't do anything to him, promise me".
Kabir shakes his head, "No".
"Please Kabir. I never asked much, this is what I am asking of you. Promise me that you will not hurt him in anyway. He doesn't deserve to suffer anymore because of all of this".
Kabir sighed, "You have to promise me something".
"What?"
"You will leave me".
Her heart stopped, "No!".
"Yes. Either you leave him. Or I will make him suffer".
"Kabir, Please. I can't abandon him. I can't do that to him. He was so scared. He was so scared I would leave him like everyone else. I can't do that".
"It's your choice".
"Give me a day with him". She whispers as she could feel her heart ripping apart, "A day is all I ask".
"Then?"
"I will do as you say".
He was anxious. No, he was losing his mind. He couldn't sit still and he couldn't speak at all. All he could think about was where she was and what they were talking about. The other part of him, the child hidden in him was scared to death that he will be abandoned again. That she will leave and he will never see her again. That he was going to lose her.
He realized pretty quickly that his hatred was childish. His hatred was stupid just like him. Because now he fears the loss of her - that he knows he won't survive - the past doesn't matter anymore. It doesn't matter the suffering he had to go through. It doesn't matter that his grandparents always kept him in a room they had underground. Something they never shared with his mother and he couldn't share because he couldn't hurt his parents like that.
He heard a knock on his room before he could move the door opened. His wife stands on the other side clearly crying for hours. He didn't even hesitate and leap towards her wrapping his arms around her while apologizing.
She pulls back as she looks in his eyes. Now that she finally has courage and strength to look at him. She can see how she had affected him. She can't even imagine how hard it must be on him to look at the person who hurt his family. The person who is the reason for his bad childhood.
He place his hand on her face pulling her closer as if he didn't want any distance between them.
"Don't leave me".
Her eyes filled with tears as she blinks trying to move away from his grip. How can she let go? Someone her family hurts is asking her to stay. Why?
"Why?"
"I don't care. I don't care about anything. Please. I just need you. I need you to stay. We can figure everything out".
"I knew what my father was planning to do to you and your mother".
He stilled.
"I knew exactly what he wanted. I knew how he was going to do it. I knew everything he did to all of you". She tries to move away from him yet he didn't let her, "I could have stopped it. I just didn't want to".
He took a deep breath, "You were a child-".
"No. We weren't. We weren't children. We saw a different world, Ehan. We were never allowed to just be children. We were aware of everything and every decision. I knew how I could help you". She was shouting now because he wasn't listening to her
She wanted his hatred. She wanted his anger.
She manage to move away from him a little and in a strong tug and she was back in his arms. He leans down placing his lips on her forehead and stayed there for the longest moment.
"I lost you, didn't I?" His voice was hoarse and then she felt his tears rolling down, "I lost in the end, right? All this hatred, all this pain and all the blaming I did. I lost. I lost everything".
She shakes her head, "No, you saved your family. You have them. They love you".
"They will always love me. No matter what. Even if I become a villain, they will always love me. But, the person I want is you. No, the person I need is you. He told me what will happen. I knew it will".
"Kabir?"
He nodded, "He said he will make me regret my life if I hurt you. I was too arrogant. I was so blinded by the hatred I didn't see anything anymore. I always wanted to punish your father and when you came to me, it felt like I had the opportunity yet again". He was hysteric, "I- I lost my mind. I lost everything. I lost you".
She didn't know what she can say to make it less painful for him.
"Will you hold me? Just for today?"
He pulls back wiping his tears as he nodded. That's how they ended up in their newly renovated home that they built together. She looks at everything he had done to this place and how different it looks to when she was here alone.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Just that, you are associating every moment I had with you as bad". She turns to look at him, "I felt it with you, Ehan". She place her head over his heart, "I felt the need to be with you. I never depend on anyone, not even Kabir. I always had my mind set on earning money and repairing Kabir. I never felt that with you. I never felt the need to repair you, even now. I felt the need to just be with you. I wanted more moments with you. I wanted to experience things with you even if it was fake and scam. I wanted to live with you even if it was for a little while. I felt something - something I never felt with anyone - I felt safe with you".
She saw his eyes filling with tears yet again as he held her and just cried. She couldn't even bring herself to cry because she accepted her reality far quicker than him. While he always held hope and had reason to have hope, she never did.
Years ago, when her father wanted to purchase (marry) his mother from her father for his gain. His mother found herself married to his father who also wanted revenge from her father. But his father lied. He fell head over heels for her. He protected her from her (Ziva) monster of a father.
The issue started when Ehan's mother found out that Ehan's father wanted revenge. She ran away and built her hotel. Yet years later, they reuinted. Her parents had kidnapped Ehan from her and kept him in a locks. They tortured him. They never let his mother meet him. Not until Ehan's father rescued him.
Her father hated how they reuinted and how they were so happy. So, that night, he took it out on her. That night was horrible and terrifying. Her screams rang through the basement. That same night, she met Kabir. She never had hope of future or freedom. Kabir gave her that.
Ehan always knew his mother would get him.
She had no one. No hope.
Just like now. He hopes that she will stay. While she knows she won't.
After he had gone to sleep she stayed awake breathing in his scent. She went to the wardrobe he had moved his clothes just recently. She took some of his clothes that had his scent. She turned to look at him and she knows he is awake now. He was crying again and this time he didn't even open his eyes to look at her. She felt the tears brimming her eyes as she turned around and left.
He looks at the note in his hand, "I hope we had met in a different world. I wish we could have more time to be with each other. I hope we meet someday, and continue our story with a new page. Just know, I never abandoned you. You are too special for me to do so. I will always have you in my heart and in my soul. Always yours, Ziva".
Then he cried as a deep bone shaking pain took over him and his sobs only increased in intensity.
