✔Prologue - The Beginning of the End
"Franklin? I need you to come to the office today..." My boss, Mr. Weston, whispered in a dry, husky voice to me over the phone. It was rare for him to call me by my first name. Something must be wrong.
I work for an obscure organization in the middle of nowhere. I'll spare you the whole speech and just be straightforward, we aren't exactly "the good guys" here.
You see, Mr. Weston is a very dangerous man, for he holds The Power.
The Power is a ability that transfers from person to person. It can be used for both good and evil, and in our case, diabolical. Once a person has died with it, The Power will go to a random person in the world over the age of 18. Or, it can be transferred by the user to a nearby person directly.
My wife, Alicen, thinks I work at a normal office. If only I could tell her. Maybe someday.
I get in my car and head straight for my job. I'm lucky Alicen is out working. She'd want to know why I was going to the office on a Saturday. I don't exactly blame her.
"Mr. Weston?" I call. "Frank, come in." A voice replys in a nostalgic tone.
Mr. Weston is laying on the floor. His neck is covered in veins of neon blue light. He winces.
"Mr. Weston!? No! Not today... please..." I plead hopelessly. "Franklin Jay Quill. It's over," Mr. Weston wheezed dryly, "I'm giving you The Power."
"No! Mr. Weston please no! I can't! I don't want to! Please, my family needs me!" I beg through my tears. "Quill, I'm trusting you with this," Mr. Weston coughed, "You can't stop me."
"No!" I cry. Too late. The blue light from his neck turn ashy black. A pale blue orb floats towards me. I stumble backwards on the ground. No! Why me? Why me!? I think as it gets closer and closer.
It touches my chest. It's done. No going back.
Edit: Cringey but sure
