Professor Potter
"All right... eh, so we should start simple first. See how you all do with the disarming charm, Expelliarmus. Okay? So, let's form a line over here and Harry and I will get out one of the dummy's." I took charge quickly and everyone seemed to listen.
"Great job, Liv." Harry grinned at me and I chuckled.
"Thanks."
Harry and I set up the dummy to look like a death eater, placing a fake wooden wand, donated by Fred and George in it's hand. When we turned around a line had been made, and first up was Neville Longbottom. Harry and I took a place on either side of Neville, and the dummy raised it's hand.
"So, the incantation is Expelliarmus. Makes sure to hold your wands firmly in your grasp when casting the spell." Harry reminded every one. "Go on, Neville."
"Expelliarmus!" Neville shouted. His own wand, flew from his hand backwards, down the line of students that all ducked. "I'm hopeless." Neville said glumly.
"Oh, no, Neville. That was good, you just are flourishing your wand to much." I assured him and took out my own.
"See, you stand firmly, hand tight over the end of the wand, and give it a quick flick. Try it like this, Expelliarmus!" Harry cast quickly. The flick of his wand, made the fake wand disappear from the dummy's hand. The other's oo'd in amazement.
"You'll please copy the approved text four times to ensure maximum retention." Umbridge said during on of our DADA classes. "There'll be no need to talk."
"No need to think's more like it." Hermione whispered annoyed, while we wrote down the notes. I snickered softly.
"Wands away!" Umbridge called out.
Neville was in the back of the room, wand out to the side slightly practicing the wand motions for Expelliarmus. He quickly placed the wand back in his pocket.
At our next practice, we had started needing to be more careful as we were all tailed by Mr. Filch and Mrs. Norris. We had all gathered inside and I was rather happy to take the lead on this one.
"The spell we are going to be showing you today, is the stunning spell. The pronunciation of the spell is Stupefy. Stunning is one of the most useful spells in your arsenal. As it stuns your enemy temporarily." I claimed brightly. Our classmates were lined up across from one another, making a aisle for us to all practice in.
"She's right. It's a wizards bread and butter, really. So, um, I'll go first then?" Harry looked at me and I gestured my hand, letting him know he had the floor. "Nigel, will you join me, please? Give me your best shot."
"Stupefy!" Nigel shouted as Harry willingly stood still.
Harry grunted and went flying back, but so did Nigel. I ran to him and helped the poor kid up.
"That was good, Nigel. Not bad." I appreciatively told him, helping him to his feet.
"All right." Harry groaned slightly as he stood to his feet. Uh, Olivia, how about you and Ron?"
"Okay." I smiled at him and grinned at Ron.
"Don't worry, I'll go easy on you." Ron whispered as he walked up to me.
"Gee, thank, Ronald." I chuckled and shook my head.
"Come on, Ron!" The boys cheered for him, while the girls all giggled.
"One sickle." George bet Fred.
"You're on." Fred whispered back.
Ron and I stood on opposite sides of the room. Ron was busy giving nods to the boys and I rolled my eyes, putting up my wand. Ron looked at me and grinned, slightly moving his mouth to cast the spell.
"Stupefy!" I cast quickly before him.
Ron whimpered as he went flying backwards. The girls gathered around me excitedly, wanting to know how they could do it as well. Most of the boys murmured, or looked away ashamed that Ron had been so easily beaten.
"Thank you." Fred grinned as George handed him a sickle.
"Shut up." George rolled his eyes.
"I let her do that." Ron told them after getting up from the floor. "It's good manner's isn't it? I mean, she is the teacher after all. You know, completely intentionally." Ron assured them, though it seemed like he was more trying to assure himself.
After practice, we snuck out the doorway, on the opposite hall, that Mr. Filch was sitting in front of, waiting for the door to reappear. Things started to get worse shortly after we started, more proclamations were made. Umbridge even started questioning students about illicit activity's. But thing's were going rather well with Dumbledore's army. We stayed with most of the basic's, including levitation, to start with. Everyone was learning really fast, the more we practiced and everything was going great.
"Those wishing to join the inquisitorial squad for extra credit may sign up at the High Inquisitor's office." Umbridge's voice echoed through the school.
Harry, Hermione, Ron and I were heading towards another practice after hearing the announcement. Fred and George had devised a wonderful box of their prank candies for Filch, and they were planning on leaving them for him on the desk he'd set up in the hall. We were all chattering happily, nearly to the Room Of Requirement.
"Potter!" A cold voice shouted down the hall.
I stopped and turned around to see Malfoy swiftly walking toward us, with his robes fluttering behind him. Harry, Hermione and Ron stopped as well.
"Oh, bugger off, Malfoy." Harry growled. "I'm not in the mood for you today."
"Actually, Potter." Malfoy spat at him as he approached. "I'm not looking for you, I'm looking for the other, Potter. You do remember you share your fame don't you, or are you that much of a narcissist?"
"Okay." I huffed loudly and crossed my arms. Harry grumbled as Ron stepped forward to hold him back if needed. "What do you want, Malfoy?"
"You're needed for questioning." He smirked and raised his eyebrows up and down.
"Oh." I frowned.
"Well, come on then." Malfoy rolled his eyes and grabbed my arm, pulling me along with him. Ron quickly jumped forward and held my other arm and frowned deeply at him.
"Whoa, back off, mate." Ron growled. "There's no need to be so rough."
"Ron." I snapped quickly and took a deep breath. "It's fine, I can handle myself." I assured him much more gently. Pulling my arms away from both of them. "Let's get this over with then." I rolled my eyes and followed Malfoy down the hall.
We went down two corridors and he stopped, pulling me into the lip of a doorway.
"Vi, look." He grinned widely and proudly showed me a new badge on his chest. I gasped and grabbed it, looking it over.
"Is this... Why... Draco, you can't be serious!" I hissed quietly at him. "I thought we agreed she was nuts!"
"Okay, maybe last time we spoke I may have said that." He rolled his eyes and looked down at me. "But being a part of the inquisitorial squad gives me more power and jurisdiction, plus all the extra credit can't hurt." He winked and I rolled my eyes. "You know, I can give detentions and dock house points. I have the chance to help clean up the school. You know, there's all these rumors floating around that kids are in some sort of group to over throw the Ministry?" He scoffed as though the notion was ridiculous.
"Yes, that does sound quite ridiculous." I rolled my eyes. "But, I can't believe you signed up for this." I said angrily.
"Come on." Draco scoffed. "Can't you be happy for me, just for once?"
"I! Well, you! This is...." I growled. "Ugh, come on, don't make me feel guilty. I thought you were finally starting to gain some sense of your own! There are other ways to help the school, and to get extra credit. Siding with Umbridge is exactly what you're doing. And I know, you know, it's not right. So, besides having power, why are you really doing this?" I raised an eyebrow at him and he scoffed.
Malfoy's feet shuffled for a moment and he opened his mouth a few times to speak but no words came out. He let out a low growl and stared down at me. Malfoy placed a hand over my mouth and pushed me against the wall.
"Vi." Draco whispered and raised an eyebrow at me and I glared at him. "Please tell me your not doing anything that's going to get you in trouble..."
"I'm not." I mumbled underneath his hand.
"Good, because I don't want to catch you doing something you're not supposed to. I'm helping you out here, trying to keep you from getting more detentions. So I'll ask again and for the love of all things magic, Do. Not. Lie. Do you know about any of the activities she's worried about? And are you apart of them?"
I shoved his hand off my mouth and frowned at him.
"No, Draco. I'm not." I said harshly.
"Great. I just don't want to see the girl I... am friend's with get in trouble. Umbridge's punishments have grown worse by the minute." Draco stated. I raised an eyebrow at his fumble with words. "So be careful."
"You know, I really wish you'd show this side of you to others." I grumbled and pulled away from him.
"Yeah, don't get your hopes up." He grumbled back and we went in opposite directions.
I walked towards the Room of Requirement, making sure no one was following me. But, looking behind doesn't exactly help your front. I walked into someone and nearly fell over. Clammy hands grabbed my wrist and pulled me back up right.
"So, what was that about?" Ron asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Ron? Why aren't you in the lesson?" I questioned quietly and pulled him along with me.
"Well, I was worried and waiting for you." He shrugged and I looked at him confused.
"Why?"
"What do you mean, why?" Ron furrowed his brow. "Umbridge has been giving students a hard time recently. I wanted to make sure you were okay. You're my best friend and... well, yeah." He said awkwardly.
"Oh." I looked down to the floor as we continued walking. "Well, friend to friend. I'm fine. It wasn't even Umbridge that questioned me it was Dra... Malfoy." I shrugged.
"He questioned you? What gave him the right to do that?" Ron asked angrily.
"The Inquisitorial Squad, Umbridge formed? Well, he's a part of it." I rolled my eyes. "He informed me that it means she's on to us and we need to be more careful. You know, basically. And I'd guarantee that they'll start following us around too. He can give detentions and take away house points."
"Great, just what we need, Malfoy and his gang to be monitoring the halls." Ron rolled his eyes. "I'm glad you're all right though, did he take points or anything from you?" Ron asked concerned. I could see him looking me over as it trying to discover he'd hurt me.
"No, no. Just rough questioning is all. Don't worry about me. I'm fine." I assured him gently, stopping and placing a hand on his cheek. Ron nodded and leaned into my hand for a moment and then we entered the Room of Requirement.
"Working hard is important." Harry said and smiled at us as we entered together. He seemed to take a visible breath, seeing that I was fine. "But there's something that matter's even more. Believing in yourselves."
"Stupefy!"
"Expelliarmus!"
"Diminuendo!"
Student's shouted all over the room, practicing with their partners. Ron left my side, after nudging me slightly and walked over towards Hermione.
"Think of it this way." I chimed in as I walked over towards Harry. "Every great witch or wizard in history started out as nothing more than what we are now; students. If they can do it? Why not us?"
The dummy bounced between the kids standing in a circle trying to attack it with their spells. Harry and I watched proudly from the side.
"Stupefy!"
"Expelliarmus!"
"Expelliarmus!"
"Expelliarmus!"
"Reducto!" Ginny shouted.
The dummy dissolved into nothing but ash. We all looked at her proudly. Her brother's all looked at her surprised. They separated off into partners again half way through the session. Harry and I walked around, checking each student and adjusting them in need be. Harry stopped at Cho and they smiled at each other. I stopped at Ron and chuckled slightly.
"Ron, you'd be better off like this." I adjusted his wand, wear his hand would be a little lower.
I felt my cheeks heat up as he stared down at me. I cleared my throat and moved away. Hermione giggled and I shot her a glare, I quickly looked back at Ron his face was even brighter than mine. Harry and I met in the middle on either side of Neville.
"Expelliarmus!" Neville cast perfectly, making Padma's wand fly from her hand.
"Did you see that?" She asked happily.
"Well done, Neville!" Harry and I exclaimed proudly.
All the student's came over to congratulate him on finally getting the spell down. After every one calmed down, Harry, Hermione, Ron and I gathered in the front of every one.
"So, that's it for this lesson." Harry stated. "Now, we're not meeting again until after the holiday's." Everyone groaned upset.
"It's okay, guys." I chuckled. "Next time you'll have harder spells to start to practice, maybe even your Patronus Charms. Honestly, well done with what you've learned in the past two months. Keep practicing on your own the best you can. Great work."
Everyone murmured happily at the aspect of doing some harder spell work and began to file out, in their small groups. Harry spied Cho, and she made eye contact with him.
"Go." I whispered to him with a soft smile. "She's waiting for you, go." I chuckled and pushed him forward.
"We'll see you in the common room, Harry." Hermione smiled and walked out of the door.
"Well, Professor Potter? You coming?" Ron chuckled and held out his arm. I laughed and linked my arm with his.
"You think I want to watch my brother and Cho? No way. I'm definitely coming."
"So." Ron started as we walked towards the common room. "What exactly do you plan on doing after Hogwarts?"
"Hmm, you know. I'm not sure. I thought maybe being an Auror, you know, since that would be cool. Maybe a alchemist?" I shrugged. "What about you?"
"Oh, I'm gonna be an Auror for sure. That'd be amazing, wouldn't it?" Ron grinned. "You know, I think you'd make a fair teacher."
"You know, I thought about it recently. I've actually really been enjoying this. Seems to be about one of the only things lately that keeps me sane. Helps my anger stay under control." I explained gladly, feeling happier the more I spoke about it.
"Well, I can see it." Ron said proudly. He grasped my hand and started swinging them in between us. "Professor Potter; just think, kid's all over would be ecstatic to learn from the one and only, Olivia Potter. I know I would be. I mean, hell, I'm learning from her right now and I think she's great." Ron boasted proudly. I laughed and nudged his side with my hip.
"Thanks, Ronald. That means a lot." I said shyly.
"It's no problem. I really do mean it. You're brilliant." Ron said softly and I smiled at him.
We waited in the Gryffindor Common Room fro Harry to return. When he did Ron was the first one to jump up to greet him.
"Well? How was it?" He grinned at his best friend.
"Wet." Harry said with a sort of scrunched look to his face. We all gave him a disgusted and weirded out look. "I mean, she was sort of crying."
"That bad at it, are you?" Ron snickered and I smacked his arm.
"I'm sure my brother's kissing was more than satisfactory." I cringed.
Harry nodded at Ron proudly from my comment, and Ron only snickered more.
"Cho spends half the time crying, these days." Hermione pointed out.
"You'd think a bit of snogging would cheer her up?" Ron laughed.
"Don't you understand how she must be feeling?" Hermione scoffed. We both looked at the boys and they only shrugged. "Well, obviously she's feeling sad about Cedric, and therefore confused about liking Harry, and guilty about kissing him, conflicted because Umbridge is threatening to sack her mum from her job at the Ministry. Frightened of failing her OWL's, because shes so busy worrying about everything else."
"If one person can feel all that, they'd explode." Ron snickered amused by her explanation.
"Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon." I scoffed looking at him up and down.
I made eye contact with Harry and a small smirk started to cross his mouth, Ron looked at me slightly taken a back, but knew I was right. Hermione started giggling and the rest of us followed, until we were all full on belly laughing.
"Harry." I said after wiping the tears away from my eyes. "As much as I like Cho, I think you'll find someone much better suited for you. Someone who's not still hung up on someone else." I offered sympathetically.
"Thanks, Liv. I'd like to think so." He shrugged.
"You will." I grinned. "You never know, they could just just around the corner. You just need to pay more attention. Anyways, goodnight, Harry. Goodnight, Ronald."
Bravely I kissed Ron's cheek, hinting at the fact that we obviously like each other, and have yet to talk about it. Harry's mouth dropped a bit, but a big old smirk crossed his face. Ron blushed furiously and touched his cheek. Hermione giggled and followed me up to bed, after bidding the boys goodnight.
