Time Turner Secret
I felt a warm clammy hand in mine. It felt perfect and right. I began to feel light and weightless as my eyes began to flutter open, hearing the sound of someone calling my name softly.
"Olivia. Liv. Sunshine, hey. Get up." Ron's voice cooed softly.
"Livy, quickly you must get up." Hermione rushed urgently.
My eyes fell open and I sat up realizing I was in the bed next to Ron's. It had been pushed slightly closer as he was in the one next to me with his leg all bandaged up. He gave me a worried smile as I sat forward.
"Liv, it's horrible." Hermione explained, her face distraught. "They've captured Sirius."
"What?!" I burst forth from the bed to see Harry laying on one across from us. I walked over to him quickly and shook his shoulder. "Harry. Come on, Harry. You must get up, it's urgent." I begged. Harry's eye lids fluttered open and he smiled.
"Did you see him, Liv? I saw our Dad."
"What?" I asked confused.
"He's the one who helped send the Dementors away. I'm not sure about the other, but I know the stag. It was dad." Harry insisted.
"Harry, listen." Hermione leaned her face over into his field of view since he still had no glasses on. "They've captured Sirius. Any minute, the Dementors are going to perform the kiss."
"They're going to kill him?!" I gasped.
"You mean, he's going to die? But he's innocent!" Harry shrieked as he jumped out of the hospital bed.
"No, it's worse. Much worse. They're going to suck out his soul." Hermione explained grimly.
Suddenly the doors to the hospital wing opened and Professor Dumbledore came rushing through.
"Sir, Professor, Sirius is innocent!" I stated quickly, rushing to him.
"Headmaster, you've got to stop them. They've got the wrong man!" Hermione exclaimed.
"It's true, sir. Sirius really is innocent." Harry insisted heavily.
"It's Scabbers who did it." Ron added from his hospital bed.
"Scabbers?" Dumbledore questioned him.
"He's my rat, sir. He's not really a rat. Uh, well, he was a rat. He was my brother Percy's rat. But then they gave him an owl, then I got Scabbers..." Ron rambled on confusedly.
"Professor, please. He means that we know the truth." I pleaded.
"Please believe us." Hermione asked.
"I do, Miss Granger and Miss Potter. But I'm sorry to say, the word of four, 13 year old wizards, will convince few others." Dumbledore explained. He quickly moved about the room and to Ron's bed side. "A child's voice, however honest and true, is meaningless..." Dumbledore tapped his hand on Ron's foot making him squeal in pain. "To those that have forgotten how to listen."
The bell struck midnight and the look upon Dumbledore's face appeared to be one of a very brilliant idea coming to mind.
"Mysterious thing, time. Powerful. And when meddled with... Dangerous." He warned, Hermione and I gasped at what he was hinting too. "Sirius Black is in the topmost cell of the Dark Tower. You know the laws, Miss Potter, Miss Granger. You-Must-Not-Be-Seen." He specified heavily. "And, you would do well, I feel, to return before this last chime. If not the consequence's are too ghastly to discuss. If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life can be spared. Three turns should do it, I think." Dumbledore explained to us quickly. He left for the door and turned one last time. "Oh, and by the way, when in doubt. I find retracing my steps a wise place to begin. Good luck."
Dumbledore left us with a smile and closed the doors after himself. Harry had the most confused look on his face and we both quickly turned towards him.
"What the bloody hell was that all about?" Ron questioned us.
"I'm sorry, Ron. But since you can't walk, you can't come." I said apologetically and quickly took the golden chain out from my clothing.
I quickly wrapped it around the three of our necks and prepared the Time Turner. Harry tired to reach up and touch it, but Hermione smacked his hand away for me. I turned it back three times and let go. The sand timer in the center began to twirl around, clicking like a clock. Harry watched amazed and utterly confused as time literally moved around us. When it stopped I took the chain off everyone and placed it back inside my sweatshirt.
"Liv, what just happened? Where's Ron?" Harry asked quickly.
"7:30, where we at 7:30?" Hermione asked ignoring his questions.
"I don't know. Going to Hagrid's?" Harry reminded us.
"Come on, Harry. And remember, we can't be seen!" I reiterated Dumbledore's words harshly and grabbed his hand.
I yanked Harry's arm and the three of us ran through the empty castle halls down to the grounds.
"Olivia! Hermione!" Harry called out as we ran. "Hermione. Olivia, wait! For Merlin's sake, Liv, Hermione will one of you please tell me what it is we're doing?" Harry asked annoyed as we didn't answer him.
Hermione and I stopped at the end of the bridge and peeked around the corner. Harry, still complaining behind us, stopped and looked around our bodies. Just below us, I grinned, seeing the moment that was about to take place again.
"Ah, come to see the show, have you, Potter?" Malfoy snickered.
"You! You foul, loathsome, evil, little cockroach!" Olivia shouted as she charged Malfoy wand raised to his throat. He backed himself up to the rock and whimpered like a scared little baby.
"But... That's us." Harry said behind me.
"Olivia!" Hermione shrieked.
"Olivia, no! He's not worth it!" Ron said calmly. Olivia seemed to take a breath and calm down immediately.
"This is not normal." Harry was in shock as he stared down at the other us's below.
Hermione and I quickly grabbed him as he leaned out farther and shoved up against the wall.
"This is a Time Turner, Harry." Hermione explained, revealing her's the same time I revealed mine. "McGonagall gave them to us first term."
"It's how we've been getting to all our lessons, all year. Why we also seem to just pop up around the place." I explained.
"You mean, we've gone back in time?" Harry asked shocked and amazed.
"Dumbledore obviously wanted us to return to this moment. Clearly something happened he wants us to change." Hermione stated with her brow furrowed.
The both of us stuck our heads around the corner and watched the scene down below us. Malfoy and his friends snickered as I turned away from them
"That's right, Olivia. Listen to your boyfriend." Malfoy snickered.
Olivia quickly turned and sacked him in the nose with her fist. Malfoy groaned and fell towards the ground.
"Great punch." Harry commented.
"Thanks." I grinned.
"Oh no, Malfoy's headed this way." Hermione gasped and pulled both our sleeves.
Harry, Hermione and I jumped out the window on the other side of the bridge and hid away from Malfoy and his friends as they ran up towards the castle in fear.
"Run!"
"Wait for me!"
"Not a word to anyone, understood?" Malfoy spat just as they entered the bridge. "Stupid, Potter and her know it all self. I'll get those blood traitors and Mudblood one day, you'll see!"
"I've been waiting for this moment for three years." Olivia chuckled. "It felt really good."
"Not good. Brilliant!" Ron exclaimed.
As the other four of us walked down to Hagrid's hut, Hermione, Harry and I snuck around the bridge and hid over by the rocks. Looking down at his hut and seeing us get there after getting a goodbye in with Buckbeak.
"Look. Buckbeak's still alive." Harry said happily.
"Of course!" Hermione gasped with a smile. "Remember what Dumbledore said? If we succeed, more than one innocent life may be spared."
"Extraordinary man." I said proudly. "Now, come on."
The three of us ran down the stairs and over into the pasture of pumpkins to hide. we looked and saw ourselves sitting inside Hagrid's. Harry and I standing at the window with him until he moved to speak to us all.
"Up there. Right up at the..." Fudge's voice echoed through the air as they started to come down the stairway.
"Here they come. We better hurry." Harry insisted as he tried to get up. Hermione and I quickly pulled him back down.
"Fudge has to see Buckbeak before we steal him." Hermione said to him.
"Or he'll think Hagrid set him free, remember?" I reminded him. Harry nodded agreeing.
"Scabbers! He's alive!" Ron exclaimed inside the hut.
I felt my own rage boil up inside me, but I had to remind myself that I couldn't get him right now. Harry on the other hand, clearly felt the same. His chest began to heave up and down, and we both grabbed his arms.
"That's Pettigrew." Harry seethed.
"Harry, you can't." Hermione insisted.
"Olivia, why aren't you more upset at this? That's the man that betrayed our parents!" Harry shouted in a whisper. "You can't expect me to just sit here.
He tried to get up again and we both held his arms tightly. Pulling him back towards the ground and moving around the pumpkins to be better hidden as the Minister for Magic, Dumbledore, and the the executioner came further down the hill.
"Harry, you must!" I hissed. "I'm just as upset as you are, but we cannot be seen. We're all in Hagrid's hut now. If we go bursting in, we'll think we've gone mad. Awful things happen to wizards that meddle with time, Harry. We absolutely cannot be seen." I reiterated strongly.
"Remember this foot path, Minister, from your school days here?" Dumbledore asked as they approached even closer to Hagrid's hut.
"Fudge is coming." Hermione frowned and gazed over the mound of Pumpkins we were hiding behind. "And we aren't leaving. Why aren't we leaving?"
I looked over the pumpkins and into the hut. I noticed something that my hand had landed on and looked down to see the very same hard black rock that we'd found in Hagrid's hut. The one that had been thrown from the outside, warning us about the Minister and Dumbledore coming.
"Hermione?!" I whispered and showed her the rock. She gasped and took it from me. Within a second she had pelted it through the window, barely missing Harry and Olivia's heads.
"Are you mad?!" Harry gasped.
"Blimey, what was that?" Hagrid's voice echoed.
I held the one in my hand and pelted it over the pumpkin's at the same time as Hermione threw her second one. I felt the dull ache of pain in the back of my head again as I had earlier that day.
"Ow!" Harry and Olivia gasped.
"Ouch." I grumbled. "Hermione you hit me earlier!"
"Sorry." She said sheepishly.
"Ow." Harry rubbed the back of his head. "That hurt, Liv."
"Sorry." I whispered.
"Ah, he we are." Fudge said as they approached Hagrid's front door. Harry, Hermione and I peeked over the pumpkins and watched as they began to knock on the front door.
"Be with ya in a moment!" Hagrid shouted.
"Here we come!" I whispered harshly seeing our heads poke out the back of the hut. "Go!"
Harry, Hermione and I ran into the tree's behind the pumpkin patch and found tree's to hide behind. Ron and Olivia led the way out of the back door to the hut holding hands. I peeked around the tree to see the grin I couldn't see before, from being behind him. My face blushed as I watched them appear in front of us. Harry gaped seeing us holding hands and he stared at me from behind his own tree.
"Ahem." Olivia cleared her throat quietly. Ron noticed and quickly let go, bringing his hand to the other that was holding onto Scabbers tightly.
"Sorry." He whispered.
"It's okay. Don't be." She blushed at her own brave words. Ron's cheeks and ears went pink. And mine did as well. Now, everyone saw it for sure.
"It is the decision of the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures, that the hippogriff known as Buckbeak is sentenced to death by execution." Fudge's voice rang through the air.
Hermione suddenly crept forward and I reached out to stop her.
"Is that really what my hair looks like from the back?" Hermione asked with a frown.
"Hermione!" Harry and I whispered.
Her foot stepped on a branch and Hermione and Olivia quickly whipped around gazing into the forest. I quickly met the eyes of the other me as I moved and she quickly looked to the ground, knowing the rules of time traveling. We were not supposed to be seen and I knew it. I knew I wasn't crazy. I really had seen my eyes earlier for a flash till me now had moved back behind the tree.
"What?" Harry asked the other two.
"I thought I just saw... Never mind." Hermione shook her head.
"Let's go!" Ron whispered.
The other four of us quickly left from behind the pumpkins and headed back up towards the castle. Harry, Hermione and I snuck back out to the pumpkins. Hermione and I stayed behind them while we ushered him up to his feet. The Teacher's and Minister weren't looking so it was safe.
"Okay, go, Harry. Go!" Hermione whispered urgently.
The black crows cawed and flew all around us. Some even began to attack Harry's feet with their beaks.
"Off! Get away! Get off!" He whispered harshly while annoyed. He got closer to Buckbeak and let out a bow, earning one in return while Buckbeak laid on the ground sadly.
Harry moved closer to him and began to untie the chains as the birds pecked his hands. He hissed quietly a few times, but got the chain away. Hermione and I slowly crept over to them as Harry pulled the chain.
"Shall we step outside?" Fudge asked and we froze.
"Uh, Minister?" Dumbledore interrupted him as the door opened slightly. "I-I really think I should sign as well."
"Yes, very well." The door closed once more. "Well, perhaps it would be a good thing to do."
"Okay." Harry whispered. "Buckbeak? Come on, quickly. Come with us now, okay? Come on." Harry pulled on the chain that was connected to one wrapped around the hippogriffs neck.
"Keep trying. Come on." Hermione whispered.
"Come on, Beaky!" I whispered and the bird moved his head farther away from us. I looked around the area quickly knowing their must be something we could entice him with. That's when I saw on Hagrid's ferret belt hanging on the fence.
"Buckbeak, come on." Harry begged. "Hurry up. Quickly, okay?"
"No, not that spot. Just here on the line. Your name only." Fudge said from inside the hut.
"It is a very long name, Minister." Dumbledore said, appearing to continuously give us more time.
Buckbeak squawked as Harry pulled the chain a little harder, making him freeze. I rushed back down towards them with the belt on myself. I peeled one of the ferrets off and held it in the air towards the giant bird.
"Come on, Beaky. Come get the nice dead ferret." I offered quickly. Buckbeak seemed most happy to have another treat and rose to his feet. I smiled and threw him the ferret which he ate in nearly a single gulp. "Come on, I have more. Let's go this way, quickly." I said in a hushed whisper.
Harry held the chain while Hermione kept a look out around us. We headed back towards the forest. But, we quickly froze. Dumbledore, Hagrid, the Executioner, and the Minister all exited the hut. Dumbledore turned and pointed off in the directions of the mountains on the other side of the hut away from us.
"Now, look there."
"Where?"
"Look, beyond the rocks." Dumbledore pointed out.
"What am I supposed to see?" The Minister chuckled.
"Professor Dippet had that ling planted when he was Headmaster." He explained an we all froze stiff.
"Oh, yes. Indeed, indeed."
"And all the strawberries you see."
"Come on, Buckbeak." I whispered barely even enough for myself to hear. But Buckbeak seemed to.
I offered him another ferret and the four of us rushed into the forest trees.
"But, where is it?" The Minister questioned as he turned around. Just as we were out of sight. "I saw the beast, just now! Not a moment ago!"
"Buckbeak..." Hagrid whispered as he looked around in the air.
"How extraordinary!" Dumbledore exclaimed.
"Oh, come now, Dumbledore." The Minister scoffed. We all peeked around the trees we stood behind. Buckbeak came around and gently tried to take more ferrets from me.
"Buckbeak." Hermione whispered at the bird and I waved her off.
"Someone's obviously released him!" Cornelius explained outraged. "Hagrid?"
"Professor, I swear I didn't!" Hagrid pleaded quickly.
"I don't think the Minister's suggesting that you had anything to do with this, Hagrid. After all, how could you? You've been with us all the time." Dumbledore pointed out.
"Well, right." Hagrid nodded in relief.
"Well... Well." Cornelius Fudge stammered on his words. "We must search the grounds!"
"Oh, search the sky's if you must, Minister." Dumbledore implored him annoyed. "Meanwhile, I'd like a nice cup of tea, or a large Brandy." He smiled and headed back for Hagrid's door.
"Right." Hagrid smiled.
"Oh, Executioner?" Dumbledore stopped just before the door. "Your services are no longer required. Thank you."
"You'll find no small glasses in this house." Hagrid chuckled.
The three of us, and Buckbeak began to run through the forest quickly. Moving on to the next task of the day. We were about to head right for the Whomping Willow and meet Sirius for the very first time.
"Now what?" Harry asked as we stopped in the forest. I threw Buckbeak another ferret and put the belt down on the forest floor.
"We save Sirius." I answered him simply.
"How?" Harry asked.
"No idea." Hermione and I answered together.
We'd run around the forest behind Hagrid's hut and up towards the Whomping Willow's area on the grounds. We stayed hidden in the tree line as we saw Professor Lupin approach.
"Look, it's Lupin." Hermione pointed out.
"Immobulus." He casted and the great tree stopped moving about.
"Well, that would have come in handy earlier." I grumbled. "Oh goody, Snape's coming as well."
"And now we wait." Harry stated.
"And now we wait." Hermione repeated.
