New Term Rules

"In the cauldron boil and bake, fillet of a Fenny snake. Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf. Witches mummy maw and gulf. Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble. Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble. Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble! Something wicked this way comes." A frog croaked and we all clapped for the Hogwarts Choir.

We sat inside the Great Hall for our Welcome back feast. The students dispersed and Dumbledore stood up to his podium with his hands high in the air.

"Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Now, I'd like to say a few words before we all become too befuddled by our excellent feast. First, I'm pleased to welcome Professor R.J Lupin, who's kindly consented to fill the post of Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher. Good luck, Professor." Dumbledore welcomed him kindly and we all clapped.

"Of course, that's why he knew to give the both of you the chocolate, Olivia and Harry." Hermione said next to me.

Harry and Ron sat on the other side of the table across from us.

"Potter." Someone hissed. That someone's voice starting up very early this year. I looked behind Harry and Ron to see Malfoy staring at me and my brother. He had my attention. "Potter!" Draco hissed again making Harry turn around. "Is it true you both fainted?" Malfoy snickered. A Slytherin boy sitting next to him named Pike, mocked fainting towards us. "I mean, you both actually fainted."

"Shove off, Malfoy." Ron said harshly. He turned Harry back around towards the table and gave me a weak smile.

"How did he find out?" Harry asked quietly.

    "Good question." I agreed.

"Just forget it. He's not worth it." Hermione told us.

"And now, our Care of Magical Creatures teachers for many years, has decided to retire in order to spend more time with his remaining limbs." Dumbledore continued his speech. "Fortunately, I'm delighted to announce that his place will be taken by none other than our own, Rubeus Hagrid."

Dumbledore gestured to Hagrid, who bashfully stood up from the head table after receiving a nudge from McGonagall. His belly knocked into the table making plates and goblets clatter. The room was filled with heavy applause, specially from Harry and I.

"Finally, on more disquieting note, at the request of the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts will until further notice, play host to the dementors of Azkaban." Student immediately started to murmur and I got a very unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach. "Until such a time as Sirius Black is captured. The dementors will be stationed at every entrance to the grounds. Now, whilst I've been assured that their presence will not disrupt our day-to-day activities... a word of caution. Dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way. Therefore, I must warn each and every one of you to give them no reason to harm you. It is not in the nature of a Dementor to be forgiving. But, you know, happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times. If one only remembers to turn on the light."

I held Dumbledore's word true in my heart, trying not to freak out. The likelihood of running into a dementor should be small. I have absolutely nothing to worry about. That's at least what I kept telling myself anyways. The Great Hall was close to finishing up dinner. Hermione and I quickly went to meet with Professor McGonagall who had given us a look from the head table.

"Good evening, Miss Potter, Miss Granger." Professor McGonagall greeted us inside the back classroom off the Great Hall.

"Good evening, Professor." We both replied.

"I'm quite sure you both received your schedules and were confused by them?"

"Yes, ma'am. Our classes seem to be overlapping each other." I said with a nod.

"And you'd be correct, Miss Potter. I have something to give to the both of you for this term." She pulled out a small box, opened it, and pulled out two long chains. They were golden and on the end was a rather curious looking device. It was circular, golden and in the center a sand timer. "These are what you shall be using to get to your classes this year. It's a time turner. I had to get very special, very hard to get permission from the Ministry for the both of you to use these." She gave us a stern look.

"Wow." Hermione admired her's carefully after being given the time turner, I did the same with mine. "How does it work?" Hermione asked.

"Firstly, you must swear not to tell anyone you have it. It absolutely must remain a secret and you shall keep them hidden in your robes. Do not take them off, do not leave them unattended. You two have perfect academic records and that is the only reason you were granted permission for such a purpose. There can absolutely be no telling, Mr. Potter or Mr. Weasley, especially. The four of you have a certain knack for trouble and I don't need to remind you two of what will happen shall it be discovered you break any of these rules."

"Yes, Professor." Hermione and I nodded furiously. We definitely didn't want to be expelled.

"In order to use the Time Turner, you shall give it a turn by this knob here." McGonagall explained. "One turn equals one hour. You shall not turn it more than five times, or there could be disastrous consequences. If you find you've missed something over the five hour mark, do not, I repeated. Do not attempt more than five turns. There should never be a reason to use more than three turns with your schedules. And lastly, I must impress on the both of you the seriousness of not messing with time in any other way besides your classes. Do not attempt to speak with yourselves, you stay out of sight. Wizards have gone mad that have messed with time. Is that clear?"

"Yes, Professor." We answered her again.

"Well, off you go. And Miss Potter, Miss Granger. If you should find yourselves overwhelmed with work and wish to drop any of your extra classes you may do so. Just come see me and we will get them sorted. Goodnight."

"Thank you, Professor McGonagall. Good night." I nodded.

"Yes, thank you, Professor. I'm sure Olivia and I will be fine. Goodnight." Hermione nodded.

Hermione and I walked back to the familiar common rooms, quickly meeting up with Harry, Ron and the other Gryffindor's. As we approached the Fat Lady painting we could hear dreadful singing. Which we quickly discovered was coming from her.

"Fortuna Major." Seamus said the new password as he had run ahead. She held her hand out and continued to sing while holding a glass in her other hand. "Here, listen. She won't let me in." Seamus explained.

We all looked at him curiously and Harry stepped forward.

    "Fortuna Major." Harry demanded.

"No, no, no. Wait!" The fat lady insisted as she held out her hand. "Wait. Watch this." She cleared her throat softly and looked at the glass in her hands. She began to sing again and it was even worse. We all cringed and covered our ears as she was nearly just screaming now and not singing. She held the note for a very long time and finally just smashed the glass onto the wall as if none of us would have noticed. She gasped. "Amazing! Just with my voice." She giggled.

"Fortuna Major." Harry demanded harsher this time. Her giggling stopped and she looked down at us all annoyed.

"Yes, alright. Go in." The Fat lady unlocked the door and opened it from her painting.

"Thank you." Harry replied to her annoyed.

Harry and the boys went straight to the dormitories. Hermione and I sat down by the fire for a bit so we didn't have to be near Lavender Brown and her stuck up self.

"So, you wanna tell me what all that was?" I grinned at her and she looked at me curiously.

"What are you talking about, Livy?" Hermione asked.

"Oh, blushing and such whenever George Weasley's around." I nudged her side with a giggle and she turned red.

"Oh... Uh, well. Last year, after I'd woken up from being petrified. Just before we left to get on the train, remember how I ran back up to double check and make sure I'd grabbed everything?" I nodded at her and she took a big dreamy breath. "Well, I rushed back out of the room and we sort of crashed into each other. I had apologized profusely for not paying attention. He picked up my books for me and... I've never really realized before his eyes. They are the most wonderful shade of brown, like chocolate."

"Aww, Hermione!! Do you fancy him?" I asked excitedly.

"I don't know, maybe? He's just really sweet. You know when he's not playing pranks or getting into trouble. But he's also rather brilliant you know? Those things he and Fred have invented?" She explained and I grinned at her. She blushed again and scoffed. "So, tell me. How about you and Ronald." Hermione wiggled her eyebrows and it was my turn to pink up.

"Oh, ha-ha. That. Well, I mean he's Ron, you know?" I explained terribly.

"Oh, come on. I gave you my whole story. You tell me yours. Do you fancy him?" She asked excitedly.

"Well, okay. Yes. I do. He makes my heart flutter. When he smiles at me, when we accidentally touch hands. I figured it out last year after coming back as well. He's just always so nice to me, he doesn't treat me like I'm Olivia Potter, you know? He never has. He makes me feel safe and I know I can tell him anything. He's brilliant to when he puts his mind to it. And his heart, Hermione. Oh, it's so big. He cares so much about the people closest to him. And it doesn't hurt that he's actually very cute too." I sighed dreamily.

"Honestly, you two would look great together. I wouldn't be surprised if he likes you too, you know?" Hermione stated and I looked at her surprised. "You know, when the Dementor was attacking you and Harry... I've never see Ron struggle so much to decide whether to help or not. Ultimately I think he didn't because he didn't know what do do. But he was so upset..."

"Hermione, Harry and I are his very best friends along with you. He was just worried. That's normal." I pointed out disappointedly.

"Would a just worried boy run straight for the girl after the dementor was blasted away by Professor Lupin. Oh, I wish you could have seen it, Livy. Ron went straight for you. Lifted you over to the other seat and he cradled your head the entire time you were passed out. It was so funny when you stirred, he nearly dropped you as he was stroking your head." She giggled.

    "R-Ron did that?"

"Well, yeah. I mean, look at the bracelet he gave you for Christmas. He was so determined to find something you'd like and he barely had any money. When he saw the bracelet he knew it was for you. Cost him nearly his whole allowance." Hermione informed me and my body heated up.

"I-I don't even know what to say. That's so sweet." I aww'd. "I hope your right, Hermione. But for now, we should get to bed. We have a very long day ahead of us tomorrow."

    "Agreed. Let's go." She nodded.

Hermione and I walked up the stairs and to the girl's dormitory. I thought about what she had told me and I really hoped she was right. That maybe, just maybe, there was a possibility that Ronald Weasley like me back.
