The Rogue Bludger
The next day, the school was filled with murmurs about what has transpired the night before. Of course, Harry and I were the main topic of discussion which made us both uneasy, seeing as we hadn't actually done anything. We made it to our Transfiguration class and I knew Hermione wanted to ask Professor McGonagall if she could give us an info on it. I had gone to bed and explained to her my worries, which she agreed she was worried about as well. We were going to study this thing through and through, and put a stop to whatever was happening ourselves if we had too.
"Could I have your attention, please? Right. Now, today, we will be transforming animals into water goblets. Like so." Professor McGonagall explained. She turned towards the large bird she had in the classroom sitting on a perch. She aimed her wand and tapped him gently. "1, 2, 3. Vera Verto."
The black and white bird changed before our very eyes into a beautiful glass water goblet.
"Whoa." We all awed in amazement.
"Now, it's your turn. Who would like to go first?" She asked. Of course Hermione and I's hand shot straight up in the air. "Ah, Mr. Weasley." She called on Ron instead. "1, 2, 3. Vera Verto."
Ron nodded his head and took out his broken wand. He cleared his throat, waved the wand three times and cast the spell on Scabbers.
"Vera Verto!"
Instead of Scabbers changing into a glass water goblet, he squeaked as he transformed into a rat goblet. The goblet was furry and still had Scabbers tail. It of course made the entire class laugh, and Ron's ears turned pink. Ron looked at Scabber's horrified.
"That wand needs replacing, Mr. Weasley." Professor McGonagall informed him sternly. I nodded at Hermione and she raised her hand into the air. "Yes, Miss Granger?"
"Professor, I was wondering if you could tell us about... T-The Chamber of Secrets." Hermione asked her cautiously.
Suddenly the soft chatter in the room stopped with the anticipation of hearing Professor McGonagall's explanation. Every students eyes, if they weren't before, were on her now. She gave us all an uneasy look and sighed.
"Very well. Well, you all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. Now, three of the founders coexisted quite harmoniously. One did not..."
"Three guesses who." Ron chuckled to Harry, though the entire class could hear.
"Salazar Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed magical learning should be kept within all magic families. In other words, pure-bloods." The Professor explained as she moved about the room. Hermione and I caught Draco giving her a glare as Professor McGonagall explained this part. Which we both glared back at him. "Unable to sway the others, he decided to leave the school. Now, according to legend, Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in this castle known as The Chamber of Secrets. Well, shortly before departing, he sealed it, until that time when his own true heir returned to the school. The heir alone would be able to open the chamber and unleash the horror within, and by so doing, purge the school of all those who, in Slytherin's view, were unworthy to study magic."
"Muggle-horns." Hermione stated with a sadness. Professor McGonagall nodded at her.
"Well, naturally, the school has been searched many times. No such chamber has been found."
"Professor?" I piped up softly and she turned back around towards me. "What exactly does legend tell us lies within the chamber?"
"The chamber is said to be home to something only the heir of Slytherin can control. It said to be the home... Of a monster."
Harry and I made small eye contact worriedly. I felt Hermione's hand grasp my under the table and give it a worried squeeze. Ron, looked positively horrified as he turned and eye'd Malfoy. When class let out the four of us, as usual, walked through the corridor. Speaking in hushed tones.
"Do you think it's true?" Ron asked nervously. "Do you think their really is a Chamber of Secrets?"
"Yes." Hermione and I answered together.
"Geez, and I thought you and I were the only ones who spoke at the same time." Harry pointed out until we both gave him a look. "Sorry, not the right time. Continue."
"You really couldn't tell?" I asked.
"McGonagall's worried. All the teachers are."
"But if their really is a Chamber of Secrets, a-and it really has been opened, then that means..." Harry began.
"The heir of Slytherin has returned to Hogwarts. The big question is... Who is it?" I wondered.
"Let's think. Who do we know who thinks all Muggle-borns are scum?" Ron asked us sarcastically as Malfoy and his goons walked by us.
"If you're talking about, Malfoy..." Hermione snarled.
"Of course! You all heard him. 'You'll be next, Mudbloods.' Ron pointed out and he honestly had a point.
"I heard him. but Malfoy, the heir of Slytherin?" Hermione said in disbelief.
"I think Ron maybe right, Hermione." I agreed making Ron perk up. "The things he says, the way he walks about the school as if he owns the place. And, look at his family. They've all been in Slytherin for generations."
"Crabbe and Goyle must know!" Ron said suddenly. "Maybe we can trick them into telling."
"Even they aren't that thick." Hermione scoffed.
"You know, Ronald. You might just be onto something." I grinned and the three looked at me curiously. "There might just be another way."
"If I know what you're thinking, then it's brilliant, Liv." Hermione nodded, but her expression faultered slightly. "It would be difficult and not to mention we'd be breaking at least 50 school rules. And dangerous."
The four of us, rushed to the library. And I quickly found the book on the shelf that I'd been looking for. Moste Potente Potions. I was lucky that I had a passion for potions and was rather good at them. Rather one of my favorite things to study, besides Charms. I wizzed through the pages and walked with it back to Hermione, Ron and Harry who were looking through the shelves.
"Here it is. The Polyjuice Potion. 'Properly brewed, the Polyjuice Potion allows the drinker to transform him or herself temporarily into the physical form of another." I read from the page and looked up at my friends.
"You mean, if Harry and I drink that stuff we'll turn into Crabbe and Goyle?" Ron asked brightly.
"Yes." Hermione nodded as she looked at the book in my hands.
"Wicked. Malfoy would tell us anything." Ron grinned.
"Exactly, but it's tricky. I've never seen a more complicated potion." Hermione sighed.
"Well, how long will it take to make?" Harry asked the both of us.
"A month." We answered him and their eyes widened.
"A month?" Harry exasperatedly huffed. "But, Olivia, Hermione, if Malfoy really is the heir of Slytherin, he could attack half the Muggle-borns in the school by then."
"We are well aware, Harry." I sighed. "But if we are too truly find out if it even is him. Then, this is the only plan we've got."
We started the plan to gather the ingredients for the Polyjuice potion. All the while Quidditch season was finally starting up again. Harry was really looking forward to it this year, specially after missing the last game, last year, due to us being in the Hospital Wing. The game started, and of course, it was against Slytherin. Player's flew all around the air, passing, tossing, the Quaffle. Hermione, Ron and I stood in the Gryffindor stands cheering Harry and the other Gryffindor's on. The bell dinged as Slytherin scored another goal.
"Another goal for Slytherin!" Lee Jordan announced and added another ten points to their scoreboard. "They lead Gryffindor 90 to 30."
"Yeah! Yeah!" The Slytherin's cheered on their brooms.
Harry had been flying around the pitch looking for any sign of the familiar golden glint through the air, but no such luck was happening to him. He stopped and looked around for a moment, only to have Draco fly up by him.
"You all right there, scarhead?" Draco yelled over to him. Harry glared for a moment and quickly brought his focus back to the game. A bludger suddenly came flying out of nowhere at Harry and he ducked, leading it to narrowly miss him.
"Watch yourself, Harry!" Oliver called out to him as he flew up into the air.
"Wood, look out!" Harry cried.
The bludger came flying back down and smacked the end of Oliver's broom. Sending him hurtling back towards the ground. It seemed to dive straight for Harry again and he ducked. It flew over his head, but quickly turned around and came after him again. I gasped as I watched the craziness happening before me. Harry flew around the pitch and the bludger followed. Clearly someone had bewitched it.
"Blimey! Harry's got 'imself a rogue bludger. That's been tampered with, that has!" Hagrid called out, outraged.
"I'll stop it." Ron pulled his broken wand from his pocket and aimed it into the air. I quickly put my hand over the top and pushed it down.
"No, Ron! Even with a proper wand. It's too risky, you could hit, Harry." I pointed out quickly as I worried about my brother. Ron looked down to the ground and I rubbed his arm, not meaning to have made him felt bad.
The bludger burst through the Slytherin tower, making wood go flying about, as the bludger still chased after only Harry. As he flew inside the pitch, the crazy ball crashed through the center of each tower after him. Harry, dove, swerved, trying anything to possibly lose the rogue bludger that was hot on his tail. Malfoy flew behind him with the biggest smirk on his face. Harry decided to pull up quickly at the last second, making the ball disappear through the tower. As he came back down towards the ground he faced Malfoy.
"Training for the ballet, Potter?" Malfoy sneered with an obnoxiously big grin. Harry suddenly perked up seeing the familiar Golden Snitch flying right by Malfoy's head.
Hearing the incoming bludger, Harry quickly ducked his head down. It shot by him and nearly took out Malfoy. Harry, ready to get the game over with, flew quickly after the Golden Snitch. Malfoy, realizing that Harry had seen the Snitch chased after him. The two boys flew right next to each other and Malfoy knocked into Harry with his arm roughly. Gaining a small lead. The Golden Snitch swerved down below and they both dove after the ball.
Much to Harry's dismay, the bludger again still followed him. Crashing into the beams surrounding the Quidditch Pitch. Harry now had to worry about the crossed beams below, the bludger following him, and Malfoy. Draco reached out with his arm to try and grab the Snitch, but narrowly missed. He grunted and turned back to face Harry.
"You'll never catch me, Potter!" He spat and his broom raced faster forward.
Harry raced past him after the Snitch as the bludger closed in. The headed back up towards the grounds of the pitch, where Colin Creevey was standing, taking pictures of the game with his camera. The boy's raced past him and Colin gasped and ducked as the rogue bludger, nearly took him out. The bludger seemed to suddenly grow angrier and lose control,, bouncing back and forth, desperately trying to hit Harry. It missed once again and went flying out, and then back in. Harry ducked and Malfoy swerved, losing his balance and control.
Malfoy screamed and the tip of his broomstick hit one of the beams. Causing him to go flying up into the air and topple down onto the Quidditch Pitch field. His legs hit the ground making him do a near split and he groaned heavily. We all oo'd for him, because quite honestly that had to hurt. Harry, chased the Snitch, reaching out and almost grabbed it when the rogue bludger finally hit him in the arm. Making him spin around on his broom while still in the air.
"Oh, no. Harry!" I cried out and leaned over the railing.
Even with his arm, quite possibly being broken, he continued to fly forward. Balancing himself with his legs, and reaching out with his last good hand. I watched as the Golden Snitch landed in his hand and he flipped, bouncing and sliding across the field. He laid on the ground with his eyes closed. I had already booked it down the stairwell and went for the field.
"Oliv... Where did she go?" Hermione whispered to Ron.
"She's right.... Oh." Ron said realizing I was gone.
"Come on, let's go." Hermione hurried Ron towards the stairwell. Hagrid following not far behind them.
"Harry Potter has caught the Snitch!" Lee commentated just as I was about to enter the field. "Gryffindor wins!"
I stopped for a moment to see Harry on the ground, holding up the golden ball. The crowds were cheering loudly, but i looked up into the air seeing the rogue bludger aiming straight for Harry. It dove down after him and I ran onto the field. He moved to the side, and moved again, each time the ball tried to hit him. He sat up and the ball crashed inbetween his legs almost hitting him where no boy wants to be hit. I aimed my wand into the air.
"Finite Incantato!" I shouted. The ball exploded in the air, just above Harry.
I ran towards him, until I felt a sudden crushing sensation in my leg. I cried out in pain and crumbled to the ground, just near Harry.
"Olivia!" Harry cried. He did his best to crawl over to me without using his arm. I sat up and cradled my leg, which was bent nearly in the opposite direction. "Thanks for saving me, but are you okay?" He worried.
"Me, oh, I'm fine. Only my bloody leg is facing the wrong way!" I snarled as tears filled my eyes. "What even hit me?!"
"A bludger, not a clue where it came from though." Harry shook his head.
"Olivia! Harry!" Hermione and Ron called out as they, and Hagrid ran onto the field.
Teachers and student, along with both teams filled the ground beside us.
"Are you okay?" Hermione asked worriedly as she bent down towards us. "That bludger appeared out of nowhere."
"So Harry said." I rolled my eyes. "But my leg is definitely broken."
"I think my arm's broken." Harry hissed as he tried to move it.
"Not to worry, you two. I will fix that arm and leg of yours straight away." Lockhart stated as he was the first teacher to arrive.
"No. Not you." Harry tried to scoot away, nearly climbing over my lap.
"Poor, boy. Doesn't know what he's saying. Olivia will let me fix her up, won't you, dear." He grinned and my eyes widened. I tried to scoot away too, but Gilderoy had already pointed his wand, aiming it at both our broken bones. "Now, this won't hurt a bit. Brackium Emendo!" He chanted.
I felt the weirdest sensation in my leg, it was like everything was warm and fuzzy. No pain left. But then my leg seemed to deflate like jello. I stared with my mouth agape at my leg and I tried to move it, but I quickly stopped. Seeing it flop around. Lockhart lifted Harry's arm and it swung around like literally jello. I gagged and nearly fainted. Ron seemed to be behind me in an instant seeing my woozy state, holding up the upper half of my body.
"Ew! Argh!" People around us groaned.
"Ah, yes, well... That can sometimes happen, but the point is, uh, you can neither any longer feel any pain, and very clearly, the bones are not broken." Lockhart boasted happily.
"Broken?!" Hagrid exclaimed. "There's no bones left!"
"Much more flexible, though." Lockhart said as if that made it any better.
"We need to get her to the hospital wing." Ron whispered to Hermione as my body continued to sway, even in Ron's hold.
"Come on, up yer go, Harry." Hagrid helped Harry get to his feet. He turned and looked down at me and I smiled weakly at him. He gave me a sympathetic smile and bent down, lifting me off the ground into his arms.
Hagrid carried me, Harry walked beside us, along with Ron and Hermione. Madam Pomfrey was livid when she'd seen what Lockhart did to Harry and I. Our friends gathered around our beds and she rushed back in. Draco was in the bed diagonal from ours, moaning and groaning. Harry and I didn't even have bones and we weren't doing that.
"Oh, Mr. Malfoy, stop making such a fuss. You can go. Out of my way! Out of my way!" Madam Pomfrey demanded. She tried to squeeze through the Gryffindor Quidditch team. "They should have been brought straight to me! I can mend bones in a heart beat, but growing them back?" She scoffed.
"You will be able to, won't you?" Hermione asked as she glanced between the both of our beds. Madam Pomfrey had some skeleton looking bottle in her hands labeled, Skeleton-grow. She began to put it into cups.
"You best hope so. Don't want this one to have a gimpy limp forever." Fred teased as he stood on my bedside. I looked up at him horrified and pouted. Ron scowled at him and shoved his arm. I quickly placed my hand on Ron's arm so he didn't start a brawl in here with his brother.
"Oh, I'll be able to, certainly, but it will be painful. You're both in for a rough night, Potter's." She handed the both of us a cup. I made the mistake of smelling it and I swear if I had nose hair, they would have been burned off. It smelled like straight rubbing alcohol. "Regrowing bones is a nasty business."
I quickly took the cup and placed it to my mouth and took a drink. One gulp and I tried to swallow it. It burned my throat and was absolutely atrocious. I coughed and sputtered on the nasty substance, but having swallowed most of it at least I didn't need anymore. Harry on the other hand took a sip and nearly spit the entire thing out. Getting it all over a majority of the Quidditch players standing in front of the both of our beds.
"Well, what did you expect? Pumpkin Juice?" Madam Pomfrey groaned. She refilled Harry's cup and made it swallow it whole.
Harry and I were made to stay the night in the hospital wing as our bones regrew. I had fallen asleep until I felt a burning sensation in my leg which made me shoot up in the bed. The last thing I expected was to hear not only the mysterious voice again, but to see the familiar, small house elf standing on my bed.
