Chapter 35

Sky

"Dude, come on!" I huff impatiently. "We're gonna be late!"

"Chill, we're not gonna be late." Luke replied calmly as he fixed his hair.

"The movie starts at 2:30, and it takes us half an hour to get there, hoping there is no traffic. It's 1:56 now, and you're still doing your hair!" I flail my arms around in annoyance.

Every time we're going to the movies, he does this. He has no respect for time. I on the other hand am a time freak, I hate being late or too early, so I always calculate everything.

Not soon enough, Luke finally finished getting ready and we headed out the door to his car.

"Take care of your sister, Luke." My mom said. "Sky, stick to Luke at all times."

"You got it, Mom." I smile and wave at her as I get in the car with Luke, who also says goodbye to mom and reassures her that he will take care of me.

I connect my phone to the aux cord and play my rock playlist. Thankfully, my brother and I have the same taste in music, with a couple artists that only one of us likes. When I was a kid, my brother was going through his 'not a phase' phase where all he listened to was hardcore rock, and I naturally started loving them.

Imagine a 3 year old girl singing along to wrestler theme songs. That was me.

So because of that, rock music is my genuine favorite type of music, and not just a phase. Luke stopped listening to rock for a while, but since he started with his guitar, he rejoined the dark side. Which is awesome for me because I finally have a rock buddy!

There was a kid in my class who I found out that he listens to the same bands I do, and we kinda bonded over that. We're pretty good friends.

My brother sings loudly and I sing under my breath, hating the way my voice sounds. I sing around my friends, but never my family. I don't know why, I just can't.

We arrive at the mall where the cinema is and I rush inside seeing the time on my phone. Luke was by my side and as we got to the cinema lobby, he went to get our tickets while I stood awkwardly next to him. I looked over to the snack bar and saw a very long and crowded line.

No popcorn for this movie. I'm so making him buy me overpriced ice cream.

We get the tickets and I push Luke away from the snack line and to the correct room where we hand in our tickets and the guy gives us our 3D glasses and the rest of our tickets. I take the tickets and put them in my purse with the rest of the tickets that live there.

I like collecting them, a reminder of all the awesome days with my brother.

We find our seats and sit down, watching the last ad before the movie starts. I swear if we didn't make it in time I would have ripped his head off.

I put on the 3D glasses over my normal ones once the movie starts and I make myself comfortable for the next two hours.

"That plot twist tho!" I exclaimed excitedly.

"Right?" He grinned at me. "Now, let's go eat. What do you want?"

"Sweet and sour chicken with noodles." I tell him my order and he nods, going over to our usual restaurant in the food court while I find us a table.

I sit at the table and take out my phone, but I don't use it. I like to show that I'm aware of everything in public, just in case anyone tries to do anything. My brother comes back with a receipt and we wait for our food to get ready.

"Dude, there's this new game coming out and it looks so good!" He informed me. "The graphics are insane, and it has HDR. The reviews say it's one of the best games out there, both story wise and graphics wise. It's just-" He cut himself off, doing a chef's kiss making me laugh at his obsession with video games.

"Should we play it together?" I ask.

"You mean I play and you watch." He raised an amused eyebrow and I rolled my eyes playfully and mimicked him, laughing slightly. "Yeah sure, it'd be fun."

He gets called to grab our food and when he leaves I notice the table behind him full of girls who were watching him. I tilted my head, confused as to why they were staring at my brother with awestruck eyes. They then turned and glared at me, taking me back in surprise.

Oh.

OHH.

Ew. Not again.

I roll my eyes, giving them a sarcastic smile as my brother came back with our food.

"Why are you making that face?" He laughed at me.

"You have some admirers again, and they're glaring at me." I explain, popping my soda can open and get started on my food as my brother laughs, doing the same.

"You know, if I saw a guy looking at you like that I would lose my shit." He took a bite of his food and burned himself.

"Good thing I'm invisible." I chuckle, blowing on my food before I take a bite to not get burned like Luke.

"Sure." He said sarcastically. "You're telling me no one likes you?"

"Nope." I grin while taking a sip of my soda. "I'm free."

"You're blinder than I thought." He chuckled, shaking his head.

"Yeah," I agree with a frown, taking off my glasses and inspecting them. "I need to change the lenses again."

He chokes on his drink as I said that and laughs, confusing me even more when he face palms.

"What?"

"That's not what I meant." He laughed. "I meant that you don't see the way peter looks at you."

"Not this again." I roll my eyes, blushing madly.

"Whatever you say, Sky." He chuckles. "Whatever you say."

We eat our food and talk more about the movie we had just watched, all while the girls glare at me.

Jesus Christ, I'm his sister for god's sake!

"You owe me ice cream." I grin sheepishly at him and he raises an eyebrow at me.

"Uh, no I don't?"

"Uh, yes you do?"

"No I don't?" He looks at me, crossing his arms. "Why do I owe you ice cream?"

"Because we didn't get here in time to get snacks."

"I don't care!"

"Neither do I."

We narrow our eyes at each other, his face remaining serious while I struggle to hide my smile and not laugh. A moment later I break and laugh, as does Luke, but only because he knew I lost this.

"Alright, where's the ice cream place?"

I grin and lead him to the parlor and order two scoops of their fancy ice creams. One scoop blueberry cheesecake, and one scoop snickers.

Heaven on a cone.

Luke gets double chocolate chip and kiwi, since everything else seemed to have some sort of cookie or cake in them. Of course he couldn't get a cone, so he had a cup instead.

We walk around the mall to finish our ice creams before we leave this place. Luke then suddenly stops and grins at a tall guy approaching us, his grin matching Luke's.

"Colby!"

"Luke!"

They do their bro hug thing and Colby turns to me, waving politely at me and I smile back awkwardly before he turns to talk with my brother. I zone out, looking around, trying very hard to not seem rude.

Aw those are such cute baby clothes! So tiny!

Well this is awkward.

Apparently Luke and Colby haven't seen each other since school, which was a long time ago.

They finally say goodbye and I wave politely with a smile.

"Why are you so awkward?" Luke laughs at me and I shrug.

"It's my superpower."

"And then there was this huge explosion!" I exclaimed with too much excitement as I threw my arms open, and my hand hit the rim of the window, hurting me, but I was too into the scene that I didn't react to it much other than shaking my hand a little.

"Then he made a superhero landing!!" I grinned. "It was so cool, you have to watch it."

Peter chuckled, resting his head on his palm as he stared at me.

His eyes always sparkled like that, right?

"I will." He smiled, staring at me intently. I blushed under his gaze and suddenly felt more self cautious, so I pulled down the sleeves of my warm pajamas and wrapped my arms around myself.

"Why do you always look at me like that?" I blurt out, not noticing what I said until I heard them. "Sorry I-"

"Because you amaze me." He replied with a sincere smile, an unknown emotion flashing in his eyes and I freeze, my blush only getting deeper.

I open my mouth to say something but I close it again, not knowing what to say. This only made Peter's smile widen and shake his head slightly, never taking his eyes off of me.

"There's something about the way you get excited over simple things, and that mesmerizing glint in your eyes when you talk about something you're passionate about." He explains and I only get redder with each word he says. "I noticed how you always reply to whatever someone says to make sure they feel heard, no matter what the topic is. And you always have a smile on your face, it's like you're challenging life to wipe it off, but it can't because you're so strong, and I see it very clearly. I've seen your eyes linger on yourself in the mirror lately, I've seen you tracing your stretch marks, but Sky, you're so damn beautiful and that precious smile of yours is too good to be faltered by the way you see yourself."

Hey, psychic person, can you help me sort out my feelings? Because I have no idea what's going on and my head is a freaking mess!

Why am I comforted rather than embarrassed that he's noticed how I feel about myself lately?

Wait shit, has anyone else noticed?

"And that proud look you get when you make someone laugh is just amazing and genuine. You actually listen to kids when they have some crazy made up story and you keep the conversation going unlike anyone else, Kat absolutely adores you, as do the rest of my family, actually all parents seem to love you, because you're respectful and kind. Sky, you're so special and I wish you could see yourself the way I see you."

Am I gonna cry? I think I'm gonna cry. I can't cry. I shouldn't cry. He's already seen me weak, I can't cry.

"Peter..." I trail off with a shaky breath, my heart pumping out of my chest. "I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything." He laughs lightheartedly before biting his lip and looking around his room for something. "I uhh, made something for you. But it's glass, so I'll just give it to you tomorrow at school."

"Aw come on, you can't tell me you have something for me and then tell me to wait!" I whine playfully, wishing I could throw a pillow at him.

"Sorry, sunshine." He grins at me and I roll my eyes, my smile not faltering.

"How's photography?" I ask with a small smile, just admiring the way Peter's brown hair falls over his forehead before he runs his hand through it, making himself look effortlessly handsome.

Having a cute best friend/ fake boyfriend is a curse I tell you. A CURSE!

"Oh man," He grins. "The teacher loved them! He thinks Tim and I really have a shot at winning."

"That's awesome!" I grin with him. "I mean, you guys have mad skills too, so I don't doubt it one bit."

"Well, I also had amazing models." He winks at me and I laugh.

"Yeah, Laura is amazing in front of the camera."

"You could sense the sass with one glance."

I hear my mom calling me from downstairs and I turn to smile at Peter apologetically, telling him I'll be right back before I get up and go downstairs to see what my mom needs.

I really hope she doesn't chase me with an egg again.

"Yeah, mom?" I hang from the door, waiting for her to talk.

"Your test results came back." My ears perked up at her words. "Everything seems to be great! But you still need to take your vitamin D regularly."

I sigh and bang my head on the rim of the door, careful to not break my glasses.

"Again? I'm literally always sun-burnt, how do I always lack it?" I groan.

"Everyone is like that, don't worry." She reassures me.

"I wonder how many pills vampires take" I chuckle and go back to my room.

Peter and I talk some more before I say bye to him to study, since the second month exams are coming up, and very soon it'll be finals and there's still so much to study and I really need to do well.

I open one of the many books laid out all over my bed and take a deep breath, preparing myself to do this.

"Alright, psychic person, you're about to get really bored." I mutter to myself.

SOOOOOOOO

Peter and Sky seem to be getting closer... ;)
