Chapter 28
Peter
I hadn't been able to have a full conversation with Sky the entire day, so I was ecstatic to walk home with her now.
Our last class had just ended and we were packing our bags to leave.
"Sky!" Tim called out right before he left the classroom with his two friends; Owen and Aidan. "Don't forget, okay?"
She smiled and nodded subtly before slinging her bag over her shoulder and waited for Nat and I.
"Man, I can't wait to go home." I stretch my arms and am about to hold Sky's hand when she lifts both her hands to tie her hair, and it's taking longer than usual, so I just drop my hands to my side defeatedly.
She's been distant lately, and it sucks.
"Nat and I have basketball practice." She smiled apologetically at me. "This Friday is our biggest game yet."
"We'll be here for a while today, so you'd probably rather go home." Nat continued. "Laura and Anna are picking up Leena right now, maybe you can catch up to them?"
"Yeah sure." I shrug nonchalantly, acting as if I'm not saddened by how little time I got to spend time with Sky today.
We walk out of class and Sky tells Nat that she's right behind there. She then turns to me, looking very nervous as a blush covers her cheeks.
"Hey, Uhm..." She gulped, finally looking me in the eyes. "I was wondering if it's okay to cut back on the PDA a little? I'm not really comfortable doing all of that."
Shit.
"Yes, of course!" I force a smile but it becomes real when she lets out a relieved sigh and smiles back brightly at me.
I've been doing too much and she probably hates me now. I know I shouldn't, but I feel slightly hurt over this. I like Sky a lot, and I want to be close to her, but if she's not comfortable then I have to step back, as hard as it may be.
But I have to, because I don't want to screw this up.
I actually care this time.
Yet I couldn't stop myself from speaking my next words.
"I need to pick up Brianna; will she be in the gym too?" I asked.
"Yeah, she should be." She nodded and started walking to the gym.
We walk in and Sky says goodbye to me before she leaves to change into her sportswear. I look around trying to find Brianna and I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy when I see Tim and his friends sitting on the bleachers, talking to Nat and waving brightly at Sky when she passed by them.
Is this what Tim meant back in class?
Is that why Sky has become distant from me?
I can't help but burn a little with jealousy at the thought of her liking someone else.
I see Brianna walking over to me in her normal clothes rather than the cheerleading uniform.
"Hey, Peter!" She grins at me, running a hand through her hair. "Ready to work on the project?"
"Yeah." I give her my show stopping smile. "Though, I have no idea what to write about."
"Don't worry." She laughs, her hand touching my bicep. "I got a few ideas."
I take one glance behind me to see Sky trying to take something from Tim as he towers over her and holds something in his hand above them, and the rest of the group were laughing loudly.
I shake my head and put all my attention on Brianna.
When I went to pick up Kat, I saw Laura and Anna but they left quickly, giving me an awkward smile and scurrying away from the building.
I once overheard them talk about how they hate Brianna, but I never understood why. Brianna has been nothing but nice to me since I've met her.
She even agreed on walking home rather than getting a ride.
"I want Sky!" Kat cried, tugging harshly on my hand as we walked to my house. Ever since she found out that Sky wasn't walking home with us, she's been throwing a fit and snapped at Brianna when she tried to talk to her.
"Kat, she's busy." Brianna told her softly, but Kat ignored her and tugged harder on my hand.
"Pete, I want Skyyy." She said louder this time, and I have had enough of it.
"Kat, stop!" I snapped at her. "You'll see her when she comes home. Now stop whining." I said sternly, and she instantly stopped crying and tugging on my arm. She let go of my hand and ran to my house and stood on her tippy toes to open the door and ran in, tears falling from her eyes.
I felt immediate regret and guilt stack over my shoulders as I watched her small figure run away crying in fear because of me. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes before reopening them.
"Kids, right?" Brianna chuckled, and I could tell she was annoyed from the tone of her voice. My heart ached knowing if Sky saw this she'd run away after Kat and comfort her, then scold me afterwards.
"Come on, let's get in." I said tiredly and walked over to the door and held it open for her as I walked in after her, seeing Kat cuddled up in my mom's arms as she comforted her.
"Peter," My mom looked over to me. "why is she crying?"
She then noticed Brianna standing next to me and she put on a kind smile, confusion clear on her face as she looked at me quizzically.
"Oh, hello." She said to the girl next to me. "What's your name, dear?"
"I'm Brianna, Mrs. Thompson." She smiled, her right dimple showing. "I love your house!"
"Oh, thank you." My mom smiled then gave me a look as if to say she's going to have a talk with me about what happened right now.
"We have an essay to write, so if you excuse us." I said and lead Brianna to my room to work on our debate.
She sat on my bed as she looked around my room, studying every detail. We decided to write a debate about whether climate change is real or not.
We didn't sit in silence for long, as she had started a conversation and kept it alive easily. We got to know each other more as we wrote our halves of the essay to then proof read together.
I learned that she has an older sister and she has a 'passion for fashion' as she quoted it. She also asked me about my hobbies, specifically photography.
"You know," She started, putting her pen down as she looked me in the eye. "the company I model for are looking for interns in photography."
"Really?" I ask interested.
"Yeah!" She grinned. "I could totally get you in if you want?"
"I'll need to know more about them first, but I'd love to." I smile at her and she smiled back at me intently. She then looked out my window, seeing Sky's empty room.
"I miss her." She sighed, looking down.
"Sky?" I questioned. "You two were friends?"
"We were." She nodded with a sad smile. "But then one day she decided to cut me off; she became distant and started to hang out with other people, telling them that I was stealing her life from her."
"Why would she say that?" I ask confused by the new information. That doesn't sound like Sky at all, but then I remind myself that I barely know her. People change quickly, me being an example.
Who knows what she was like before?
"I don't know." She shrugged, a cute pout on her glossy lips. "I think she was jealous or something. She was always mad that she never got credit and I did."
Sky has mentioned that to me before.
"What did you do?" I asked her softly, leaning down to be able to look at her hazel eyes.
"I moved on." She smiled sadly. "And ever since, she's been cold to me and my friends."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but one look into Brianna's eyes and I found myself trusting her words.
But Sky's changed, right?
I change the topic quickly to lift the mood and asked more about her modeling career at the moment. Her eyes lit up as she talked about what she does. Her voice was smooth and enchanting, and the way she talked drew me in.
However, my mind kept recalling the newly learned information about Sky. She's been distant from me lately; could she be dragging me to the same fate as Brianna?
I shrug away the thoughts of Sky once more and focus on what Brianna was telling me.
What do you think Peter is hiding?
Who do you think the real bad guy is? Is it Sky or Brianna?
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK PLS I'M LONELY!
Hope you liked this chapter!! See you guys next time!
