Chapter 12
Sky
A week has passed since Peter moved to my neighborhood and joined my friend group, and we've only gotten closer.
Anna and Nat grew more comfortable around him, and Laura is..Laura. She didn't change a bit since he joined our group, other than her usual random pick up lines, which is directed to all of us, so it doesn't really bother Peter.
In fact, I think she's rubbing off on him, because he's been quite flirty with me. It's hilarious. Dude is smooth, gotta give him credit.
We are currently in the field for lunch, but me and Nat are extremely hyped up about today, because it's finally Friday!
"AAAAHHHHHH!!!" Nat and I yell, letting our inner demon free.
You know exactly what voice I mean.
She and I jump from foot to foot, pretending that we have a basketball in our hands and playing.
"She steals, she travels, she shoots AND SHE SCORES!!" I jump high in the air as I cheer for myself. Because if you ain't cheering yourself on, who will?
Nat and I do our cool handshake and yell out "ROYALS!!" which is our team name.
Peter and the girls laugh at us and we go to sit next to them, huge grins on our faces as well.
"You guys are excited." Anna laughs.
"Are we?" I make a confused face and look at Nat.
"Haven't noticed." She continued.
"Who are you playing against?" Laura asked, popping a grape into her mouth.
"The sharks."
"What's our mascot?" Peter asked.
"A royal penguin!" I exclaimed, throwing my hands up dramatically as I jump up. Suddenly I get a very familiar feeling, one that I wasn't supposed to feel until next week.
Noticing my expression and unusual silence, Peter asked me what's wrong. I gulped and looked at Nat.
"Code red."
The girls' eyes widen at what I said and I quickly grab my bag and throw it over my shoulder, asking one of the girls to come with me to the bathroom.
"Wait, what's wrong?" Peter asked, getting up as well and taking ahold of my hand.
"Don't worry about it, I'll be right back." I smiled reassuringly and squeeze his hand lightly before I leave with Laura to the bathroom.
"I thought yours wouldn't come until later?" She asked when we were far enough.
"I thought the same, but you know how irregular mine can be sometimes. It's a literal pain in the ass."
Code red; every girl's nightmare, some more than others.
The monthly feeling of getting stabbed repeatedly and having to deal with it because there is literally nothing you can do about it.
I take out a pad from my bag and hand the bag to Laura before I enter one of the stalls to put it on. From all the days it could've happened, it just had to be today, didn't it?
Usually I'm okay with my...you know...time of the month, and it doesn't necessarily hurt, it's just really uncomfortable. But whenever it's mistimed, like today, I get really bad cramps that might result in me fainting from the pain.
And no, I am not weak. It hurts that much.
I feel the cramps coming in and it takes all of my power to not scream.
I come out of the stall and wash my hands and then face, breathing deeply to make sure I wouldn't faint again.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I breathe in. "it's just one of those times..."
"How are you going to play basketball today?" She asked worriedly
"I just gotta woman up and deal with it." I say, taking my bag from her as we make our way back to the field.
I make pained expressions every now and then as I sit quietly and uncomfortably with my friends under the shade.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Peter asked again.
"Yeah, I'm great." I lied with a smile. He didn't seem to buy it, but dropped it nevertheless.
Lunch ended and we headed back to class, and I was starting to get a headache, and seeing some of my classmates really didn't help.
I quickly sat in my desk and banged my head on the table as I clutched my tummy. I could hear Peter ask Nat about me, and she answered back that it's nothing to worry about.
I felt someone rubbing my back, and I knew it wasn't Natalie. I blushed as I felt the warmth of Peter's hand rubbing my back comfortingly, and it actually eased the pain I was in.
But then the teacher came in and he had to go to his seat, which was fortunately next to mine. He kept asking me if I needed anything during class, it was adorable.
Class ended and I packed my books to go to my next class, but I felt yet another violent stab and it made me groan out loud and bend down a little.
I have lost the ability to walk straight. Great.
Peter took my bag from me and threw it over his own shoulder as he took my arm in his to support me, and Nat took my other arm in hers to help.
Man, I don't deserve these awesome friends.
"Too fat to walk by yourself?" Dianna snickered as she passed me.
"Dianna I swear to god I will shove my looney tune shoes up-" Nat put her hand in front of my mouth, stopping me from continuing my statement and I'm glad she did. Peter was trying really hard to keep his laughter in.
"Just go away, Dianna." Nat said calmly.
Shocked by my outburst, Dianna scoffed and left with Eve.
By the end of our last class I was feeling much better and I could walk normally again, and thankfully the pain went away.
Obviously not all of it, but it was tolerable.
I felt excitement run through my veins again as Nat and I made our way to the gym to practice a little before the games start soon. Peter went home so he could come with Meg. Anna and Laura stayed to watch practice and reserve the best seats for our families who will be coming soon, as well as Peter and Meg.
I changed into my jersey, which was black with white rims and writing. It had our team name written on the back, and my surname on the front, both sides have my number printed on them. I'm number 3.
I change my normal sneakers to my basketball sneakers, to stop me from slipping in the court. Practice was a bit harder than usual, but I still managed to play well.
A little blood isn't going to stop me from earning this win for my team.
I already informed Stormie about my case in case there were to be any accidents during the game. We all know it by the name of code red.
Makes it feel like we're on a spy mission.
We take a break to get our energy back as the cheerleaders practice their cheers.
After about an hour, everyone had piled up on the bleachers, awaiting the game to start. The Sharks have arrived and we were all getting ready for the first basketball game of the year.
I pulled my hair up in a high ponytail as it cascaded down my shoulders and down to my waist.
Yeah my hair has gotten pretty long again, I should cut it soon.
Alright let's do this!
