Chapter Ten

Kai couldn't explain it. Even if she tried. Her brain stayed frozen, her body stiff as her eyes focused on the glowing white hand clasped against her mouth. The shards of a glass cylinder bit into her palms as she clenched her fist in fear.
          Tighter. Blood.
One minute she was sitting on the floor, lips snarled in disgust at the tasteless Domus food while Hestia, Pontius, Claudius and Ignatius discussed her outside. Her eyes shifted from the drab, scrutinizing the room in boredom.
Once again, the cylinder with the floating blue Bob came into view. It sat on a platform, serene as ever, yet, it called to her. Or perhaps her curiosity instead.
A shudder ran through her at the memory of pink sweater launching her against an identical but much larger cylinder.
             The sizzling pop she'd heard...
"Wait... " She whispered, standing up and walking in a trance towards the little cylinder. "He's wanted... The alarm!... This blue Bob means something..."
Kai had no idea what made her do it, maybe it was her traumatic experience, or the hunger, because with the strength of someone possessed, she slammed her fist into the glass.
And that led her to where she was. Covered in powder black darkness. In the arms of someone she didn't know, someone who's hand clasped her jaws tightly as he whispered slowly, as if selecting his words, above the blaring alarm,
"Alas, we have found our accomplice"
The blue bob now on the floor, sizzled and sparkled in response. She wondered how long it would take for one of them outside to realize the sudden lack of -
"Las! The place is without light."
A thick lump sat in her throat. Pontius creepy eyes flickered around the room. They seemed to get redder and closer together as they took in the situation. His dilapidated eye slid to center on her slowly, forming a glare.
A glare that sent cold chills up her spine.
The person behind her chuckled; a low rumbling sound as his palm squeezed her cheeks.
           "Easy now, Pontius"
His voice felt like rushing waters, giving the sensation of water dropping from a tap, patiently.
         Klop klop.

....Look I can make a sound... Klop... Klop....

"I said she was bad. No one agreed. None of you listen! She destroyed our power supply!" if Pontius was human, spit would be flying venomously everywhere.
             Another chuckle.
The palm released her face and she felt him step away just as the others stepped inside.
Her eyes fell to the floor, shame coursing through her veins at her actions.
       What had she been thinking?
She didn't know how long she stood there, in the powdered darkness. Apparently, long enough for Pontius to have gotten another cylinder and light up the room again.
Kai clenched her eyes shut at the sudden blast.

        "Who's she?"
That immediately got her attention. Her eyes flicked open, her body shifted so she could catch a glimpse of the scary man of the dark.
         Who... No, what am I?
Orange orbs stared into hers with as much curiosity. His hair, the same color as his eyes, cascaded in luscious waves. And his lips curled in a passive smirk. He stood next to the cotton candy painting on the wall.
          He looked the least terrifying.
"How did you get in Laurentitius?" Hestia frowned.
He gave a nonchalant shrug and traced the drawing with his finger. Then he glanced at her; a full long glance.
"You do know she's wanted... Right?"
"What?! What does he mean?" Kai gasped throwing looks at Claudius, Hestia even Pontius.
"Yes! Now will you be good Laurentitius, tell these fools to send her to the timids! The laws, we have broken enough already." Pontius spat.
"What law have you broken, Villus? Try lying to your fellow colleagues and also revealing who you are in the act..."
"You worry not. So confident you will be the Possesor! While we-"
"Will be allowed free on my command."
Kai wanted to scream at them all. Maybe throw a few punches. But all she did was think.
          For once, think.
She'd somehow survived in the Domus. With no idea how or what happened. She was in Time.  Time was a place. A place where white skinned creatures with ridiculous features, weird English and toothless smiles, lived.
How does one leave time to go to earth?
"How does one leave... Earth  to go to time?" she whispered, pulling her lip with her teeth in deep thought.
"If you're going to keep her, she'll need modifiers." Laurentitius;his voice that seemed to envelope her in a warm cocoon despite the cool feel; pointed out.
"You agree with them?!" Pontius roared. " We will not keep her!"
"Oh, quit your yibs Pontius. Just think of her as one of your projects. Are you not curious why she lasted this long?"
Kai watched hesitation flicker in Pontius orbs. His shoulders slumped, his focused pupils slid back to their favourite  position; the end corners. Kai assumed that meant he was relaxed.
Silence ensued in the room. Laurentitius eyes continued to sweep over her,  his face stoic. Claudius had a far away look in his eyes. Hestia traded occasional glances with Ignatius who was quiet the entire time.
           Until,
          "So... What now?" he asked.
"We all want answers. We all want to know why urthling isn't dead yet? There's only one place that we can get these answers." Claudius stated.
The look on their faces told Kai they knew what he was talking about.
           Their chorus confirmed it all.
             "The Libranium"

It's been a whiiiile.  I just want to apologize for the slow updates. I've resumed the University or college as you may call it and mahn! It's pretty tough squeezing out time to write.  But it'll all be fine. I'll manage to drop an update at least every two weeks.
Thank you so much for your support!
Also big news, I entered this book into this year's wattys. Too early?  I don't know. My fingers are crossed anyways.
Love,
Miriel.
