Chapter Nine.
Time stood still. Was it possible for time to freeze in time? Somehow she had fallen on the floor, the walls spun and seemed to chorus a song.
"...it has begun..."
"...She has... Little... Left"
"...Gone!... Like that?!..."
She gasped for air, trying to take controlled breaths, but her body felt like a whirlwind. Her eyes grew dizzy as she felt like she was spinning in circles.
I can't die on time! It's not my time yet!
The beautiful lights meshed into a blur of colors and the Domus became a shade of nothingness. Her hands fell limp at her sides, but her eyes remained open.
"Kai!"
A burst of white light hit her face, almost blinding. She tried to block it off before it rendered her eyes useless, but her arms felt like logs of trees. Slowly the light simmered and morphed into a wide landscape, an expanse of barren land. The scene flickered like a flame, making Kai frown in wonder and curiosity.
How am I on my feet?
"Kairos!"
Her eyes widened in realization. She knew that voice! She would know it anywhere! She looked around frantically, searching for the source of the voice.
All she saw was empty barren land.
"Kairos!"
"Dad!" she screamed back. "Where are you?"
The scene flickered.
"Go away from here!" the voice sounded angry now. "Get out of here now!"
Kai shook her head. She didn't want to leave. He was here, she needed to see him!
"No-"
"Are you alright Daddy?" a soft voice said behind her and Kai whipped around immediately. A little girl stood there, her back turned to Kai. Her blonde hair was held up with a bow.
...eyes the color of Sesi...
Kai knew who she was without seeing her face. She wondered who the girl was talking to.
The voice?
"Go away, Kai. Daddy's busy." The voice said.
The scene flickered again and shifted into a room. A very familiar room. The walls were made of hard polished wood. And a copper smell lingered in the air. A man searched a cupboard in choppy actions, his bald head shining in the dim light from a bedside lamp.
"Dad?" Kai whispered, in partial shock and confusion. She took a few steps forward but was pushed back by an invisible force.
"Should I call Mommy?" the little girl's soft voice floated across the room. Her father looked up abruptly, alarm in his eyes.
"No!"
Kai flinched.
The little girl pouted. She settled the stuffed warthog on the bed and walked to her father's threatening figure.
I don't remember being this calm. I don't remember this at all.
" I can help you look-"
"You can help me by getting out-" a wheeze escaped him then. He groaned, his eyes as he fell on his knees clutching his face.
"Daddy?" The fear was there in her voice. Kai couldn't see her face still, but she could feel the tremors. The trembling. The gnawing anticipation.
"Kai..."
His voice is weak. He looked as of life was slowly withering away from him. His skin turned white slowly. The little girl dropped beside him. Kai could hear a soft whimper and sniffles.
"Call..." he whispered harshly squeezing a piece of paper from his pocket into her tiny palm. "Call the number Kai. Something's wrong with Daddy-" he fell flat on the floor.
Kai wasn't sure if the scream that followed washers or the little girl's.
All she remembered before she blacked out was her father's ear falling off.

"Impossible!"
Kai groaned at the loud voice wishing she could maybe hit the speaker's nose till it broke.
"Pont-"
"This defies logic!"
"You defy logic."
"Hestia..-"
"You're supposed to be glad she's waking!"
"But it's... Not Normal!" At Pontius words, she felt the bright light returning.
Don't go into the light. Do not go into the light.
A loud pounding hit continuously in her ears. The hum of rushing waters followed, and the Domus kind of cold wrapped around her again.
"What if she's not?"
That opened her eyes in a whiff. She was flat on the floor while the rest towered above her.
What?
" Do not be absurd Hestia."Pontius spat.
"Yeah, even I think that's ridiculous. The order is time, space, matter, Urth and will be for eternity" Claudius remarked.
"Well, how do you explain this?" Hestia gestured down at her.
Kai frowned as she watched the motion. Then her eyes widened in realization.
"Well maybe when Urthlings die, their eyes open and they still breathe" Pontius shrugged earning a glower from Hestia.
"We both know that's not true!"
"I'm alive?" Kai whispered, slowly recognizing the loud continuous pound in her ears as her heartbeat. Without realizing, a huge smile stretched her face. Her chest heaved huge breaths of relief and shook as she laughed. The breathy sound slowly morphed into a wild cackle.
"Isn't it obvious? She's too deranged to die! We have to seal her."
"Please shut him up or I will." Hestia threatened to look up at Claudius who in turn gave the latter a death glare.
"You'll be the one getting sealed if you don't shut up." He warned. Pontius huffed in response and stalked towards the end of the room where a ten-inch tall cylinder sat in a metal box, a familiar blue bob hovered in it.
Hestia shook her head, pulled Kai off the ground and helped her sit up.
"I know you have questions. Questions I pretty much don't have answers to. But can I.... eat something first?"
