Awake
"This is Jim with Jim News here to report a tragic story. Doctor Iplier was found dead in his home late last night, appearing to have been mauled by someone that had broken in through the window. And now for the weather. Jim?"
Chase shuddered as he shut the tv off in Schneep's room, curling his legs into his chest before resting his chin on his knees.
"What do I do Doc? I'm alone, I need you." Chase whispered, glancing over at the unconscious German.
"I guess it's stupid that I expect you to live while everyone else is dead." Chase chuckled mirthlessly as he stood up, pressing the back of his hand to Schneep's forehead.
"But like Jack used to say, you just gotta have PMA."
Chase felt himself breaking down as he removed his hand and sank to his knees, his head bowed as tears rolled down his cheeks before dripping onto the white tiled floor.
"Doc..." Chase trailed off as he fought to regain his composure, angrily swiping his tears away with the back of his hand.
Chase stiffened when he felt something touch his back, the broken male looking up to see Schneep's eyes cracked open with his hand resting on Chase.
"Guten morgen mein friend." Schneep croaked weakly, a small smile lighting up his face as Chase grinned back.
"So, vhat have I missed?" Schneep prompted as he sat up with a wince, Chase's expression instantly falling.
"A lot." Chase admitted, taking a deep breath before recounting everything that had happened within the past couple of days.
Schneep was silent as he listened, letting out a long sigh once Chase finished.
"Doctor Iplier vas a great doctor and an even greater man, I'm sorry about everything you've had to go through." Schneep apologized quietly, tears welling his eyes before he shook his head to dispel them.
"I'll be alright Doc, I always am." Chase assured Schneep, plastering a fake smile on his face.
"I know you're lying Chase, I've known you long enough to tell." Schneep remarked, swinging his legs over the side of his bed.
"Doc, what're ya doing?" Chase frowned in confusion, the German sliding off of the bed to wobbly land on his feet.
"You said Marvin destroyed JJ's hideout while he was still inside, I have to see for myself." Schneep stated, limping towards the door before pausing to lean against the doorframe.
"Doc, you can't go anywhere like that." Chase pointed out, Schneep grunting softly as he trudged down the hall.
"Vatch me." Schneep shot back over his shoulder, using the wall to help keep him upright.
Chase rolled his eyes as he caught up to the German, allowing Schneep to sling an arm around Chase's shoulder.
"You stubborn bastard." Chase chuckled, Schneep joining in until he broke off with a pained wheeze.
"Yes, vell I learned it from a friend." Schneep countered, looking at Chase with an amused expression.
"Why were you out for so long? You were in a coma-like state and no one could wake you up." Chase questioned, Schneep biting his lip.
"In all honesty, I had given up on life. After seeing the anger in Jack's eyes as he choked the life out of me, I just....lost the will to live." Schneep confessed.
"Hey, being depressed is my job." Chase joked lightly, Schneep shaking his head.
"It didn't use to be." Schneep reminded him gently.
"Yeah, I guess that's what happens when the love of your life takes your kids and never allows you to see them so they think that you don't love them anymore." Chase muttered bitterly.
Chase helped Schneep into his car before he hopped in the driver's seat, driving to where JJ's underground hideout was.
The whole area had caved in around a five mile radius, the area taped off to keep people away.
"Ladies first." Schneep teased, lifting the tape up for Chase.
"After you then Doc." Chase scoffed, the German rolling his eyes as he ducked under the tape and paused at the edge of the pit, Chase joining him.
Together the pair climbed into the pit and began sifting through the debris, moving what they could while looking for JJ.
"What do we do if we find him?" Chase shouted to Schneep as he tossed aside a large piece of concrete.
"Vhen ve find him, ve vill take care of him." Schneep declared confidently, moving aside the smaller pieces since his other arm was still in a sling.
"Stop!" Chase hissed, the two freezing when sirens steadily grew louder as they cane towards them.
"JJ-"
"We'll have to come back later. C'mon, we gotta go." Chase interrupted, climbing out of the pit before helping Schneep up.
Neither male saw JJ silently crying for help from underneath a pile of debris, the mute watching them leave through the cracks with a sinking heart.
