Chapter 2
(Peyton)
I focused myself on the book I was reading.
I was on the bus, sitting in the very back, so as to avoid the jerks on my bus. Especially Michelle. She had tried to talk to me today. She should've known that I don't talk to snobby brats like her.
I huffed as the bus reached my stop. I picked up my bag and walked off the bus, my usual scowl on my face.
"Hey honey." My mom chirped as I walked into the house. "How was your day?" "Usual." I deadpanned. My mom's smile faded. "Oh. Well then, I'll make some food."
"Sissy!"
I turned to see my little sister Paige running towards me, clutching her favorite teddy bear. Paige was only 2 years old. She had a chubby pink face, amber eyes, and blonde hair like my mom. She was the 'definition of adorable', as my parents called it. But I did love Paige, when she wasn't bugging me.
"Hey Paige!" I replied, trying to sound happy. Parker jumped into my arms and giggled. "Sissy!"
I smiled and placed Paige down onto the floor, then walked to my room. Once I realized that Paige was following me, I went to the bathroom instead. My mom had some stupid rule that my sister was allowed to come into my room anytime she wanted and I wasn't allowed to lock her out or slam the door in her face. So, the bathroom was the only place I could go that Paige couldn't.
"Sissy!" Paige whined, hitting the door. "Sissy come out! I wanna play!!!"
"I have to go to the bathroom Paige!" I called back, sitting down on the closed toilet lid and sighing.
A few minutes later, I heard footsteps, meaning that Paige had left. I smiled to myself and got up to wash my hands.
When I sat down to at the table a few hours later to eat, Paige jumped on my lap and squealed.
"Paige!" I cried, trying to push her off. "I'm about to eat!"
But Paige just giggled and squirmed around on my lap. I turned and frowned at my mom. "Mom, can you make Paige get off me?"
My mom turned and smiled strictly at Paige. "Paige, get off of your sister, she's about to eat."
Paige pouted. She got up off me, then scrunched up her face and began to wail. Oh no.
"Paige!" My mom cried, running forward and embracing her. "Stop crying dear. What is it? What can Mommy do?"
"I-I-I wanna play w-with P-Peyton!" Paige wailed. "Oh but sweetie, she's eating. She can play with you afterwards."
Paige's wails only increased in volume, and my mom picked her up and carried her back to her crib, Paige wailing the entire way.
I scowled as I picked up my fork.
I opened the door, looking over my shoulder at my mom, who was brushing Paige's hair.
"I'm leaving Mom." I called. My mom looked over at me and smiled serenely. "Okay dear, hope you have a good day."
Yeah right, I thought. Good day... that never happens.
I walked onto my bus and sat at the very back, then pulled out a book and began to read. I didn't even notice Michelle get on, but I heard a giggle and looked up to see her walking towards me. Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no.
I ducked, hiding my face in my book as she came closer, hoping she wouldn't see me.
I glanced up over my book and saw Michelle's eyes drift momentarily on me, before she sat a few seats away from me with a friend.
I huffed in annoyance, and scooched closer to the window, burying my face in my book as the bus drove off.
