"Vis is a form of energy. All the Ingenium, the talented have vis. Energy is what Indignus, the talentless have."

"Wait, you're saying I'm Ingenium? The talented?"

"Yes, there are four Ingenium divisions, Umbra is shadow, Lux is light, Terra is earth, and the most crucial, Aevum which is time."

It was still for a while trying to process the information.

"Come inside, take a seat" as Wellever leads us inside to some chairs next to a white desk.

Then I saw it.

The needle.

Needle. Needle. Needle.

My heart was pounding in my ears.

Needle. Needle. Needle.

I couldn't take my eyes off the long, shiny white tube with the dreaded pointed end.

"It won't hurt much, don't worry"

Wellever hands me the needle saying, "Here. Do it yourself. Then it won't hurt.

A sharp pain fills my arm as I inject the solution.

"The enzyme I've injected in your arm will read your DNA and present on this screen here," Wellever says as he motions his hand to a large computer screen.

"So how do the Ingenium divisions work? Magic?"

Wellever, Eliza and Maxri stare at me with astonishment for a painfully long time.

Then Wellever starts laughing.

"Magic. You thought it was magic?" Eliza says, chuckling away.

"The Elemental Ingenium divisions are Lux, Terra, and Umbra. They draw energy from the earth. The non-Elemental division is Aevum. Aevum draws energy from our wasted time."

"Well, what division am I in?"

I know what division you're in but it will be easier to explain, once Wellever finishes the gene test."

"I'm almost done, Eliza, but, let's hear a bit about Inara too," Wellever tells him.

" I'm Inara Baxter and my parents recently divorced, so now I live with my mom in Brooklyn. I'm an 8th grader and I-Is that supposed to happen?" I say, motioning towards the screen.

The screen was golden, and a strand of my DNA was radiating the colors white, green, black and blue, blinding my eyes.

"Oh no," Wellever replies, running his hand through his messy blond hair, ruffling it more.

"It's much worse than I thought"
