Ibrahim pov:
My campaign was turning out to be a total disaster even with the assurance the governor and my dad had given me. I specially gave out invitations to many prominent men in the state and they had all promised to give their support. We weren't even up to 50 persons and everybody present are family, friends and well wishers.
It's being 5hours plus since we came out but no massive turn up. How was I going to win the elections in such a way. The turn up is very poor and elections are around the corner. " so what do we do now?".
" i am more than confused". My dad gasped for air. As much as I hated him, he deserves to be appreciated. Him, as well as my step mother
Came out just because of me. My step mom even managed to call a few of her friends who turned up for me. " the Governor had promised to bring 300 active supporters. I cannot just understand Ibrahim".
" do you think we are hitting the right audience?". I asked. Nothing felt right any more.
"C'mon Ibrahim. Politics is not all about audience but connection". He looked around the area and sighed. " how do you think I worked my way here". He paused, waiting for a reply from me but got none. " connection". At this point in time I felt like giving up. There was nothing I could do to win the heart of del-tan's that too as a Muslim.
" Don't worry my son. The Governor has promised to help me with this task. Tho!!". He looked around to make sure no one was looking before speaking. " he is asking for my position in the oil company and a sure appointment for his son in your government".
That's asurb. I know how my dad worked his way there. " you do realize you did a lot of dirty things to be where you are today. Do you want to give it all up?". I gasped.
" I know Ibrahim but what to do?".
" that's too much to ask". Ever since I embarked on this Journey, the only thing he has being doing is making vein promises. Omor; I'm done. I think it's time to do things my way even if I clearly did not have a way.
" let's start packing and go home. There is nothing left to do than pray that Allah intervenes". At this point my mood was already spoilt and I just wanted to go home, home to my bed and pillows. I was lost in thoughts, i didn't even realize Ejiro has been calling my phone. She is even the least person I want to talk to at the moment.
My dream is about to fall apart right in front of me. I did not even realize I could never ever stand a chance. " Ibrahim Ejiro is coming....". I walked pass my mom without acknowledging her presence or what she had to say. " Ibrahim!!!". I just wanted to go home and cry or rather do any other thing than this stupid campaign.
Pimpim pimpim pimpim!!
" ibrahim!!". Something about that voice sounded familiar.
" oga comot for road na I go jam you o!!!". The unfamiliar voice drew my attention back to reality but wait!. I was only making my way to my car. " oga I go jam you o".
I have been standing in front of a big truck. The faces I saw were unfamiliar to me. I turned my gaze back to my mom and dad wearing a funny yet happy expression on their faces. The trucks was loaded with people and there were all carrying my banner and mini flyers.
" babe clear road na!". That's when my Gaze landed at my supposed baby mama wearing a hijab. She was waving to get my attention. I quickly moved to the side so the trucks could all pass and settle in. The moment the trucks were probably packed everybody came down. Some were jumping and jubilating, other arranged the drums and started playing music. The trumpeter's followed in and before you knew it another truck drove in playing Afro beat music.
It wasn't a campaign anymore. It was a party ground. I quickly made my way to the mom and my dad. The crowd was massive and I was indeed impressed. " was this part of your plan?". My dad asked me. " wait what?. I taught it was your idea". We both stared at each other with a surprised look on our face.
" it's actually Ejiro's idea".
" Ejiro!!". Me and my dad both voiced out in shock.
" she suggested that we take the campaign to the under developed areas in delta state as to buy the minds of the people fast. I tried to talk about it during your our meeting but you and your dad were against it from the unset. So I decided to keep mute and let her do her things".
Wow!!.
" she pulled the crowd here all by herself ". I was more than impressed and speechless. Maybe she is smart after all. I watched her from a distance dancing and vibing with this strangers from afar like she had known them all her life. My dad walked away without saying a word but his face clearly displayed distain.
Never in my wildest dream would I ever believed someone will go this far for me. Not just anyone, but Ejiro. Was she up to something?, how was she even able to pull this so much crowd in less than a day.
"Well your dad is gone. It's your campaign, make it lively by lending a helping hand. There are some refreshment in the truck I think we should lend a helping hand by sharing them to the people. Some of us have being here all morning".
My mom did make a point but they are a lot of people here to lend a helping hand. Why must it be me?. " the workers can do that".
" and it is your campaign". She raised an eyebrow at me. " alright let's go. I hope after serving food with my own hands they will see me as a good person". We made our way to the truck.
" be good cause you are good
Not cause you want people to see you as a good person".
