Chapter 25: A Chat

(I'm so sad that Bad didn't win the elections to become president of the qsmp. 😭 That means no Skeppy on the qsmp. 😔)

Zak's Pov:

It's Saturday morning, and Sam, Darryl, and I are getting ready to head to Darryl's house to talk to his parents. I'm happy at the possible thought of Darryl getting to live with me, but I can't help but be a bit anxious and nervous. I hope everything goes smoothly. Once we are ready to go, Darryl gives us his address, so Samira puts the address in a GPS, giving her directions to Darryl's house. She drives us to Darryl's house in her car.

Once we arrive, we go up to the front door. Samira knocks on the door. Soon after, I hear shuffling from inside. I look to see that Darryl is very nervous. The cuts on his face fully healed, but some scars are still present on his face. The most noticeable one being the one across his cheek. But he is trying his best to hide the scars with his hood. He is wearing his hoodie since it is now dry.

Darryl keeps fidgeting his hands. To calm his nerves, I grab his hand and smile at him in reassurance that everything's going to be okay. He gives me a small smile back, but there is no confidence in it. Soon after, the door opens, and Darryl quickly pulls his hand away from my grasp. Even though me and Darryl talked about it and agreed that we would reveal that we were dating to his parents, I guess he doesn't want to give out any hints yet.

When the door is wide open, it reveals quite a small woman. She's shorter than Darryl, about 2 or 3 inches smaller than him. Despite her height, the woman has long hair, going past her waist. Her hair is a medium blonde and is quite fluffy. She is pale with some freckles on her face, and she has the most bright hazel eyes I have ever seen. Even though you probably wouldn't tell that this woman and Darryl are related from plain sight, you can definitely see some resemblance once you take a good look at their features. The woman smiled brightly and joyfully said, "Good morning! Darryl told me we were going to get visitors. Please, come in!"

This was definitely Darryl's Mom. They both have the same bright smile and the happy tone in their voice. It seems like Darryl got the fluffy hair trait from his mom and her freckles, though she had more than Darryl. We greeted the woman and stepped inside the house. Darryl came in last, and as he did, his Mom gave him a warm embrace, and I could a smile form on his face.

From here, I could slightly see the kitchen and the stairs to the second floor. The living room had some nice decorations and two couches. One bigger than the other. On the bigger couch, there was seated a man who looked a lot like Darryl. You could immediately tell that this was Darryl's dad. He was also pale and had short dark brown hair that looked flat and green eyes. If you compared him and Darryl next to each other, you could tell that Darryl's hair was obviously lighter than his father's, and that his eyes looked much brighter, which is what made them look like emeralds. His father's eyes were a slightly darker shade of green and looked dull compared to Darryl's eyes. I guess Darryl's Mom's color pallet affected him when he got his Dad's color pallet since he got lighter shades of color compared to his Dad.

Darryl's dad looked at us and simply said, "Hello."

He didn't smile nor showed any excitement or joy. Much contrast to his wife's jolly attitude. He looked like he didn't even want to be here, but as far as I know, he's pretty much always home, happily drinking alcohol. Darryl's mom takes a seat next to her husband, but a bit far from him, and says, "Go ahead and take a seat! Darryl said that you wanted to talk to us. What do you need to say?"

Sam thanked the woman and took a seat at the smaller couch that was facing straight towards the couple. I was about to sit next to my sister when I noticed that Darryl was standing uncomfortably still in a corner a bit far away. He didn't look like he was gonna move. I walked up to him and whispered to him, "Love, why are you standing here all alone? Why don't you come take a seat with us?"

"Sorry, it's just- I'm not normally comfortable in the living room."

"Why?"

"Some... harrowing- memories."

I nod in understanding. God- how much did your father hurt you? I stand next to him and say, "Well, I'm staying here as well."

He smiles at me. I can tell that my actions really touched him. I guess I'll leave it up to my sister since I can't do much from all the way over here. Sam raises an eyebrow at me, and I nod at her in confirmation. She takes a deep breath and looks at Darryl's parents. She then says, "Well... today we came to visit you to discuss something important."

"And what could that possibly be?" Darryl's dad says in an intimidating voice.

Darryl's mom gives her husband a look, telling him to not be rude. Sam then says, "Let me introduce myself first, I'm Samira, and that over there is my brother, Zak, he goes to the same school as Darryl."

Darryl's mom smiles and looks at me. She says, "Ah, yes. I think Darryl mentioned you once."

I look next to me to see Darryl flush up a bit from embarrassment, but he stays quiet. I can't help but let a smirk grow on my face. Samira then says, "We have come to ask you two for permission."

Darryl's parents raised their eyebrows in confusion. Samira then continued by saying, "Permission for Darryl to live with me and Zak."

Darryl's dad immediately yelled out, "What!? Why in hell do you want that!?"

The man's sudden outburst made me flinch, and Darryl looked so scared, especially when his dad glanced at him. His hands began to tremble. He immediately looks like he's regretting his decision. But Samira stayed calm, she didn't seem intimidated at all. She says, "With all due respect sir, we know the truth. We believe that this is the best for Darryl."

"The truth!? The truth about what!?"

Samira glared at him coldly and said, "We know that you abuse Darryl."

The room fell silent, and Darryl's parents were staring at him. Darryl just looked down at the floor, avoiding anyone's eyes. Then Darryl's dad looked at Samira and said, "So what if that's true or not? It's not like you have any proof."

Samira raised her eyebrow and said, "Have you not seen your son's face? That is more than enough proof for the police if we ever need to report you, and for the victim themselves to claim you abused them."

Upon hearing that, Darryl's head snapped upwards and looked at Samira surprised. Even though we clearly know that Darryl doesn't want to report his dad to the police, I guess it would make sense to at least threaten his dad with the police, it's not like he would know if Darryl wants that or not. Darryl's dad stood frozen in place for a second before he got up and started going to Samira. Darryl looked terrified and his mom abruptly got up. Wait- he isn't going to- this b*tch. If he touches her- Samira then says, "If you hurt me then that's also evidence for the police and you'll be given other charges like attacking a civilian."

The man stopped in his tracks. He was almost in Samira's face. Samira continued, "So for all of our sakes, I would really recommend that you let Darryl live with us."

Darryl's dad gritted his teeth and said, "Who do you think you are to get into our business and take my son away from us!?"

Then out of nowhere, Darryl started chuckling coldly. We all turned to look at Darryl. He then says, "Son...? Son!? You don't even acknowledge me as your son anymore! You've always been telling me to call you sir, not father!"

Guess it was Darryl's turn to snap. His dad looked at him in surprise for a moment, then his angered expression took over his face. The moment when he started walking towards Darryl, was the moment when Darryl felt immediate regret. I stepped in front of Darryl to shield him from his father. Darryl hugged me from behind, not wanting to let go. His father got in front of my face. It is only now that I realize that he is about 2 inches taller than me. He then said to Darryl, "You brat! Don't hide behind this boy like a coward and face me like a man!"

I then say coldly, "You aren't going to touch him. You'll have to get through me first."

The man looks down at me and says, "Who do you think you are to say that?"

"I'm his boyfriend."

The room fell silent. But even so, I could feel Darryl's dad's blood starting to boil even more. He then yelled out, "NO SON OF MINE IS GAY! YOU WERE NOT RAISED LIKE THIS DARRYL!"

Behind me I could faintly hear Darryl scoffing. Darryl's dad then lifts me up by my shirt and is about to throw a punch at me when someone screams out, "STOP!"
