Warnings: mentions of death, carriage accident, sadness, Snyder, and the Refuge
Third Person POV

The World Newspaper
Brothers Flee from Police After Parents and Sister Die

By: J.B. Barrington

On Saturday evening, paramedics were called to a neighborhood in Lower Manhattan.

The Jacobs were a family who lived in a rural area of Manhattan. They were well-known in the area for being a lovely family.

When the paramedics arrived, they found Mayer and Esther Jacobs, along with their sixteen-year-old daughter, Sarah Jacobs, dead.

The three had been walking home when a carriage came spiraling down the street, out of control.

Esther was helping her husband walk as he had a cane due to a recent leg injury he received while at work, and Sarah was carrying groceries.

The three didn't have enough warning about the carriage and failed to move out of the way, causing a collision.

All three died in the accident.

The other two members of the Jacobs family, sixteen-year-old David and nine-year-old Les Jacobs, were at home when the incident happened.

The police took the two boys to the station and broke the news to them.

"It was really sad," Officer James Brown said. "They just broke into tears, and the older one held his younger brother."

It was planned that the Jacobs brothers would be taken to the Refuge so they had somewhere to stay while the funeral was being planned. However, the brothers ran away before they could be taken to the Refuge.

The police ask that people be on the lookout for the Jacobs brothers. They have dark brown hair and blue eyes, accompanied by a pale complexion. They were last seen in the Lower Manhattan Police Station.

David and Les's ages in the book (for all of the chapters, both current-day chapters and the newspaper chapter) are 16 and almost 10 (so technically 9, but don't tell Les I said that!).
