- Chapter 27 - Oliver Bennett -
Warnings: mentions of freezing to death, hospitals, Snyder, and the Refuge (and orphanages?)
Third Person POV

The World Newspaper
Street Kid Almost Freezes to Death

By: J.B. Barrington

Early Tuesday morning, a woman named Charlotte Jones left her home to find a boy sleeping on the street.

Usually, this would be normal to Mrs. Jones. However, it was far below freezing and the boy had a layer of snow and frost on top of him.

Mrs. Jones quickly got the police, who helped her bring the boy to the hospital.

The boy, twelve-year-old Oliver Bennett, didn't wake up for a few days. Doctors were worried he would never wake up again.

Miraculously, Olivier did wake up. He was diagnosed with pneumonia and was suffering from severe hypothermia.

The police found out that Oliver was kicked out of his home a few years prior to the event and was working as a shoe shiner. He didn't have enough money to stay in a lodge and could hardly afford the clothes he was wearing.

While Oliver is in the hospital recovering, police are working with Warden Snyder of the Refuge and the woman who runs the Manhattan Children's Orphanage to find a place for Oliver to stay once he is released.

Mrs. Charlotte Jones visits Oliver most days and is the one paying for his treatment at the hospital. However, she is too old to take him in.

"I just thank God that it wasn't too late," Mrs. Jones said when she was interviewed. "You see so many kids on the streets who age struggling and just wish you can help them all," she said. "I'm glad I could help one."

Boots's age in the book (for all of the current-day chapters and not the newspaper chapter) is 16.

Also, I just realized that I accidentally combined Annie and Warbucks to get Boots's name; Annie Bennett and Oliver Warbucks = Oliver Bennett.
That was not on purpose, I swear lol.
