Secrets Unfold
(So for a little bit of context, because Regina didn't end up enacting the curse some things in the time line changed and I decided that Killian didn't kill his father. Hope that helps.)
Killian's Pov
I stare at the man, but he doesn't even make an effort to look at me. At that point I made my decision. If he was so ashamed at what he had done that he couldn't even manage to look me in the eye, then he was no father to me.
"That man means nothing to me. The princess is dead and nothing can bring her body back from the depths of the sea. So I suggest you leave my ship now, with that bastard,"I growl, looking to Blackbeard.
"Killian..." the old man pleads, looking to me for the first time.
"That's Captain to you," I stare daggers back at him, my eyes cold.
"Let me explain..." my father continues.
"There is nothing to explain. I ask you to leave my ship. I won't ask again," I grit my teeth together, trying to contain my anger.
"I'm not leaving here empty handed Hook. There is a princess aboard that will require." Blackbeard says, "And this man has something to say."
I turn furiously to Blackbeard. How dare he speak to me, a Captain, like that, and on my own ship. I take only two strides before I stand before him, spitting in his face, "The man you brought aboard my ship is nothing but a scoundrel, a coward, and a cold-hearted bastard who gave his sons up for servitude. I will not tolerate having him here. You came for the princess and she is dead. So leave now before I blow you to bits," I yank out my gun, placing it on his abdomen.
"I see that we are unwanted here, but I think you might want to hear what Brennan has to say," Blackbeard seems unfazed.
"I don't want to hear his pleas for forgiveness," I cock the gun, "Leave now."
"The Evil Queen took your father, not his own cowardice," Blackbeard states, ignoring my comment and my loaded gun.
"You're lying. This man left me and my brother," I shout, turning the gun to my father, "You left your only sons to live a life of servitude so that you could escape from your own sins. That is not mercy and doesn't deserve forgiveness."
"He's telling the truth... Killian," my father replies.
My jaw ticks, as I look for any sign of falseness in his eyes. There is none. I lower my gun, wanting to hear his explanation.
He continues, "The queen was after the savior and the dark one... ahh"
"No more talking," Blackbeard swung out his sword, placing the tip of his sword at my father's neck.
"What does any of this have to do with the dark one?" I ask my fury building at the mention of the crocodile's name.
"Now Hook, if you want to know the rest of your father's pathetic story, including what the dark one has to do with it, you will willingly hand over the princess," Blackbeard twists the point of the sword in the soft part of my father's neck.
"I told you she's dead. So I can't do that," I repeat the lie again.
"Then I guess you wouldn't mind me searching the ship while you have a much needed conversation with your long lost father," Blackbeard sneers.
"Go ahead. You won't find anything," I say, my jaw ticking.
Corinth shoves my father forward and he crashes onto the deck, his hand tied behind his back.
"You heard the Captain," Blackbeard yells, "Men search the ship for the princess."
I grit my teeth, as I watch Blackbeard's crew waltz around my ship like they own it. I walk towards my study. My father manages to get himself to his feet even with his bound hands. I open the door for him and he walks in.
"You have a lot of explaining to do," I let the door swing shut and silence envelops us.
"Killian if I could have kept you and your brother I would have," my father says in a pleading voice.
"Then why didn't you?" I ask, still frowning.
"You were little when the threat of the curse loomed over the realm, but it was a trying time for the kingdom of misthaven. For everyone," guilt crosses his expression, "Where is your brother? Is he alright?"
"Liam died almost a year ago," the memory fresh in my mind burns at my emotions.
"Killian, I am so sorry," my father replies.
"But that doesn't matter anymore. He's dead, but what of you? So, tell me, father, where does a scoundrel like you run after he's sold his sons into servitude?" I try to avoid the topic, anger still boiling at the sight of my father, no matter what his explanation might be.
"The Evil Queen's curse was expected any day. I was trying to find a way to protect you and your brother before the curse hit. I went to town to find information about finding passage to a safer kingdom, one where the curse could be avoided. I found a man at a pub talking about rumors, rumors that Rumplestitskin had discovered a way to break the curse," my father tells the story.
"What does any of this have to do with the dark one?" I ask my fury building at his name.
"Well from what I have heard, the dark one stole the powers of a seer and now he can see the future. He used these powers to see the future of the Evil Queen's curse. He discovered that there would be a savior, one that would break her curse," my father describes.
"Okay so some bitter queen threatened a curse on the Enchanted Forest and the dark one saw the future that someday someone would break it. What does any of this have to do with you? Or why you left me?" I ask, quite honestly on the verge of anger.
"I'm getting to that," my father says calmly.
"Then get there faster," I seethe.
"You're not giving me time, Killian," my father says, both of our tempers rising.
"Because I don't have time to give. As long as I am talking to you, Blackbeard and his crew are searching my ship for the princess," I slam my fists on my desk.
"I thought you said she was dead?" my father questions.
"No. She is quite alive and the longer Blackbeard looks, the closer they are to her. So you better hurry along with your tale," I glare at him.
There is a short moment of silence before he continues, "The rumors about what the dark one saw said, 'A man gifted the token of sword and skull and a savior crowned with a broken heart, together a curse broken.' This was a threat to the Evil Queen's curse, so she had the land searched for the man with this token so she could stop the savior. The night I left, the Evil Queen's guards found me wearing my necklace that held a sword and skull. I didn't know about any of the rumors at the time. The Evil Queen manipulated me. She said that if I sold you two to servitude and came with her that she would protect us when the curse came. She promised safety in this new realm the curse created. I accepted her proposition. I sold you and your brother to protect you. But before I left I gave you my necklace, the token the queen was after. And when she learned that I gave it away, she took my heart to control me. It was a trap to secure the prosperity of her curse, but I had broken that security by passing the necklace onto you. You became the man of sword and skull. She banished me to an island far away. She was going to come after you, until she met her true love and decided to not enact the curse, sparing us," my father says rapidly, trying not to waste my time, "There you go. You see I only left to protect you?"
"Then why didn't you find me sooner? The Evil Queen left this realm over twenty years ago and there has not been a single threat of a curse since."
"I was trapped on the island and put under a sleeping curse. That was my punishment for giving up the necklace, before the Evil Queen changed. But by then there was nothing she could do to fix it, except to give me back my heart," he explains.
"A sleeping curse? How the bloody hell are you awake now?" I still try to contain my slowly diminishing anger.
"How does anyone break a curse? True love's kiss. My nurse. I could hear her speaking... as I slumbered. Her voice was so kind, so gentle. She made me see the error of my ways. I fell in love with her. And she, with me. She changed me. I'm so sorry Killian. My only intentions were to protect you and your brother who were the most important parts of my life. A few years... after I married Annie... she fell ill," my father sits down on a wood stool in front of the desk, "The plague. She never recovered. She told me with her dying words to find you, to make amends. I have been searching for months. Blackbeard attacked the merchant ship I was aboard and he figured out who I was. And then planned to use me against you to retrieve the princess."
There is a moment of silence.
"Will you forgive me Killian?"
I think of Emma. My father left his only sons. He may have left us on good intentions, but he still left us. And now Liam is dead and I have hurt so many innocent people, including Emma. Emma. Would she forgive me? If I can't forgive my father, how do I expect her to forgive me. Forgive myself for what I have done.
"Aye. You were only trying to do your best and I have made no better life decisions. But under two conditions," I say, my simmering anger finally cooling down, "The princess can't know who I truly am. I am Hook to you and you are a part of my crew, not my father. Understood?"
"Of course. Anything, but why? Why do you need the princess?"
"I have forgiven you, now I need her to forgive me. And to do that I can't let her know what I have done. It's the only way I can become the man I want to become," I tell the truth.
We are interrupted by screams. Emma's screams. Blackbeard has found her.
Dun! Dun! Dun! How do you think Blackbeard found her? And what do you think of Killian's father? And his story? What do you think is going to happen to Emma? And what is Killian going to do about it? Theories? Comments?
