"What?" E.N.D mocked, putting his hands on his hips. "No volunteers?"
Fairy Tail stood still and silent like marble statues, staring E.N.D down with calculating eyes. "Oho, I see," the Great Demon Lord chuckled. "You are all wary of attacking this body of mine." E.N.D grinned sinisterly and tapped his temple with a clawed nail. "E.N.D is the only one who resides in here now." The Demon titled his head, "See? No need to fret. You Fairies may go all out."
Lucy stifled a sob at the Demon's cruel words. Natsu's not gone...he's not.
"I apologize," E.N.D hummed, placing a clawed hand to his gaping chest. "I'm-whoops!" He laughed huskily when his hand went through the hole in his chest. "Better fix that."
The black tendrils on his body shot forward without pause. They began to weave and knit the flesh surrounding E.N.D's chest back together. "There...that's better." He hummed in satisfaction. When the fatal injury that had taken Natsu's life was healed, the Great Demon Lord cleared his throat.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I have picked up quite a few names over the many years that have passed by." He told the silent Fairy Tail members. "However one name has survived longer than the rest." E.N.D flashed a fanged smile that was oozing with darkness.
"Etherious Natsu Dragneel; E.N.D."
The Great Demon Lord raised a taloned hand and wiggled his fingers. "That's me, hello." The red veins in his eyes pulsed. "Now that you all know me, we can have some fun now. I am afraid my patience has worn thin." He sighed dramatically before he chirped lightly.
"I guess I can start slaughtering you Fairies now." E.N.D narrowed his eyes. "Unless someone dares to step forth to duel against I? One of you even may have a chance against me." E.N.D smiled pleasantly. "Or you all could come at me at once."
That was not going to happen. The remaining Fairy Tail members were exhausted, beaten, bloody, and fading fast. If they all attacked at once, it would waste each individual Mage's Magic and strength, and they all were not in their right mind. What if one sent an attack that was meant for E.N.D but their aim was off?
Or what if E.N.D used one of them as a hostage and threatened their life if they all did not back down?
Or...It could end up being a mass murder by E.N.D's hands.
It was safer if the Fairies sent one of their members one at a time to go head to head with the Great Demon Lord. Then, if it came down to it, and another Fairy Tail Mage had to step forth, they would have some idea of how E.N.D fought. What moves he used the most. How he moved. His rhythm. Fairy Tail would not be defeated!
There was barely a pause before someone did dare to step up.
Gajeel broke away from the rank of Fairy Tail Mages to stand confidently in front of his former Nest Mate. Erza had to place a hand on Levy's shoulder to keep her from stepping forth as well. The Solid Script Mage's eyes flashed with fright and worry as Gajeel locked eyes with E.N.D.
"Gihihi," the Iron Dragon Slayer cracked his knuckles. "I'll take ya on, Salamander and knock that damned Demon outta ya." E.N.D blinked his black and red eyes at him. The Demon ranked his eyes over his 'opponent's' form and had to purse his lips to hide his mirth. This Dragon Slayer was not good enough of an opponent for E.N.D. Though, it would be fun to strip away that confident smirk from his face.
"Very well," E.N.D sighed out, looking at his former Nest Mate with boredom. "Let us get this over with."
Gajeel grinned and suddenly shadows began to ooze out of his body. His eyes turned pale white and his pupils disappeared. His skin began to melt away and be replaced by iron. His long black hair stuck up around his head like spikes. Gajeel had tapped into his Dragon Force.
Gajeel vanished.
He materialized out of thin air behind E.N.D. With a swipe of his talons, he ripped into the Demon's back, shredding clothing. There was a ear splitting sound of metal scraping against steel and sparks flew. E.N.D rolled his shoulders as Gajeel backed away with a smirk.
"Your iron is not worthy of damaging my scales." E.N.D hissed. Gajeel's smile froze on his face-and he was sent flying when the Demon's fist slammed into his cheek, shattering the iron shield that protected his face.
The Iron Dragon Slayer was sent tumbling through the air and slammed into the dirt. Gajeel shot up and leaped away just in time to escape E.N.D's talons. Gajeel let go of his form and let the shadows take over. He hovered in the air for only a moment before he shot forward. The mass of shadows under Gajeel's control zoomed around E.N.D's head.
The Demon slashed at the shadows but his talons just fazed right through them. Irritation slithered across E.N.D's face when Gajeel's fist materialized out of the shadows and cracked across the Demon's face. E.N.D shook his horned head and brought down his tail hard enough to shake the ground. Rocks dislodged from the ground and the earth became uneven underneath Gajeel's shadowed form.
The Iron Dragon Slayer made the mistake of being distracted. His Dragon Force that centered around his shadow form flickered out for just a second. In that moment E.N.D attacked. He lunged forward and snapped his jaws around Gajeel's throat. E.N.D's fangs penetrated easily through the iron scales that covered Gajeel's flesh.
The Iron Dragon Slayer let loose a snarl as his shadows melted away. Blood bubbled and pooled down Gajeel's throat as E.N.D ripped and tore into his neck viscously. Crimson liquid blocked Gajeel's airway and he gasped for breath. At the same time he tried to dislodge the Demon's fangs.
Gajeel balled up his iron clad hand and smashed his fist into the back of E.N.D's head. The Demon rocked backwards and yanked his fangs away. E.N.D backed up a step to watch Gajeel stumble and clutch at his heavily bleeding throat. E.N.D grinned, showing off his fangs smeared with blood.
E.N.D was the one who faded out of existence this time.
Gajeel barely had any time to prepare himself before E.N.D was on him. The Demon kicked out and his leg rammed into Gajeel's raised arm. The scales dotting his arm cracked and splintered from the force. Gajeel's eyes widened with shock as he saw his broken scales drop to the ground.
E.N.D cackled and was suddenly behind Gajeel, who tried to turn around but was too late. E.N.D's tail rose up to block the moon from Gajeel's eyes and came crashing down. The sickening crack! that followed after the blow to Gajeel's back was enough to make anyone's stomach roll. The Iron Dragon Slayer hit the ground hard and out of breath.
E.N.D loomed over the Slayer with a sparkle in his red and black eyes.
Is this really how it's going to go down for me? Beaten by a weakling Dragon like Salamander? Gajeel wondered faintly, his hazy eyes taking in E.N.D's blood thirsty eyes that held no sympathy. What a shit joke.
E.N.D titled his horned head and smiled wickedly. "Thanks for the fun." He raised his obsidian talons and the shadow of the deadly weapons fell upon Gajeel's bloody face. The Iron Dragon Slayer did not look away even as the talons that would bring him to his death flashed downward-
"Solid Script; Earth!"
E.N.D raised his arm to block the large pieces of rock from striking him in the chest. A look of annoyance crossed his face as he dived to the side to dodge a large rock from striking his face. Gajeel slowly blinked as he looked to see who had stopped his death from occurring.
A petite girl stood protectively in front of him.
With her jay bird blue hair tied back into a red headband, her face was twisted into a look of anger, her arm was extended, and two of her fingers were glowing orange with her Magic.
Shrimp?
"Gajeel, get up!" She yelled, sending more boulders and rocks at E.N.D who destroyed each one with a growl of annoyance. Gajeel couldn't help the crooked smile that crawled across his face at seeing her. He pushed himself up and clamped a hand back to his destroyed throat.
Gajeel took a step forward, gesturing with his hand for Levy to follow, for he could not speak. The small girl sent one last rock flying E.N.D's way before she too spun around and took a step toward Gajeel, her hand reaching for his.
Levy's head went soaring across the night sky.
Gajeel's whole being stopped working as Levy's decapitated body hit the dirt.
E.N.D lowered his talons that had sliced cleanly through Levy's neck.
Gajeel stood frozen with his eyes shaking with shock.
Levy's eyes were wide open and vacant as her head flopped onto the ground and rolled a short ways. E.N.D clicked his tongue and looked down at his talons dripping with torn flesh. "Damn, I used to much strength on that one."
Shouts of denial and horror broke out but all the noise did not reach Gajeel's ringing ears. He was having a morbid staring contest with Levy's open, blind eyes. His stomach rolled and lurched. His jaw quivered. His eyes clouded over and he fell to his knees.
Levy McGarden had saved Gajeel Redfox twice; and he had been helpless to save her the second time.
Levy had been lost.
Erza Scarlet was the next challenger. She dashed forward with rage at her heels and fury roaring inside of her. With a screech she brought her katana slicing through the cool air. The blade snapped in half when it came into contact with E.N.D's scaled covered neck.
The Demon cracked his neck and brushed away the sparkling leftover pieces of Erza's weapon. The red headed swords woman took a timid step back, her eyes blazing with hate and anger. "Such an ugly emotion you have in your eyes." E.N.D observed calmly.
E.N.D swiftly clawed out Erza's left eye.
"That's better," he murmured as he squished Erza's eyeball where it lay in the palm of his hand.
Erza screamed and held her hands over her empty eye socket. Pain like she had never experienced before flooded her body and ate at her mind. She trembled and her throat went raw from all of her screaming cries. With a swift hit to the back of the head from E.N.D's tail, Erza fell to the ground at his feet.
"You Fairies are just no fun." The Demon said with a roll of his eyes, flicking his wrist to get rid of the eye juice that stained his hand.
MiraJane bowed her head and stepped forward.
Her balled up hands trembled at her side but her voice was steady when she said. "Natsu...If you are still in there..." The she Demon lifted her head, her blue eyes narrowed to slits and iced over. "Then I apologize for what I am about to do."
Mira unfolded her wings even though one was brutally mangled. She kicked off the ground and shot forward with a deafening roar. She cocked back her arm and slashed downward as she blasted passed E.N.D.
MiraJane landed a few feet away, swayed, and collapsed onto her back. Her stomach had been ripped open to expose her insides. Her entrails hung out of her body and her eyes had become empty of a soul.
"What a waste of Magic." E.N.D scoffed and flicked his wrist to dislodge the leftover flesh that had been ripped from her.
And just like that;
E.N.D had defeated Fairy Tail.
Juvia gasped when E.N.D's pulsing red and black eyes landed on her. He raised his hand, palm up, and ignited his hand. "What do you say, Water Woman? Wanna see who's Magic can conquer the other's?" Juvia's eyes shook and she tightened her arms around Gray who had not moved.
"No?" E.N.D hummed, amused by the Water Mage's fearful eyes. Lucy did not even react when his black eyes with pulsing red veins swung to her. The Princess' eyes were dull and vacant, like a doll's. Every couple of seconds her body would shudder harshly. Her shoulders were slumped forward and her hands laid uselessly in her lap.
Lucy Heartfilia now knew what she had awakened.
The end to everything.
Gravel and little rocks crunched underfoot and the sound of a tail thumping against the ground filled the silent air. A warming heat washed across Lucy's clammy skin. Faint warning signals fired away inside of her shut down mind. She ignored them all. Because Lucy wasn't afraid.
How could she be if she did not have a working heart to react to that fear?
E.N.D kneeled down in front of her. He titled her limp head up using a talon. Her empty eyes met his nightmarish ones. "You have been quiet." His warm breath brushed against her cheek. "Something on your mind, Luce?"
How...?
Can he look like Natsu...?
Talk like Natsu...?
Call her Luce...?
How could he smile like Natsu...?
Tears pooled in Lucy's eyes and they spilled over as her throat closed up.
"...How...?" Her voice was low and scratchy when she forced the question out of her closed up throat.
E.N.D titled his horned head and oh if he didn't look like her Natsu at that moment. Lucy's heart clenched painfully.
"How what, Luce?"
"How can you not be my Dragon?" Her voice cracked but she did not break eye contact with E.N.D for a second.
"Because your Dragon died in order to make room for the Demon."
Lucy closed her eyes and the tears spilled over. She shook as a sob ranked throughout her worn out body. Something in E.N.D responded to Lucy's tears and his mouth moved on its own. "He never liked it when you cried." Lucy's head jerked up and she looked at the Demon with wide eyes.
"W-what did you just say?"
E.N.D blinked slowly, "Would you like to hear a story? It's a wicked one." A dark smile twisted his lips up. "But something tells me that that kind of thing interests you." Lucy stayed silent as E.N.D's tale began to unfold.
"When Natsu Dragneel was little a deadly virus entered into him and his weak body could not fight it. He soon died alongside his parents who had also fallen victim to the toxin. The only one who lived was his brother-my brother. Zeref Dragneel."
"My brother was smart, you see. He wanted to see his little brother once again. So, he defied the laws of nature, pushed aside the warnings, and brought his beloved little brother back to life using Etherious."
"However," E.N.D's eyes pulsed a vibrant red. "His little brother brought back with him something vile and evil.
Me."
"Alas, before I could take over, Zeref gave my vessel to that wretched Fire Dragon King, Igneel. He cursed me to forever be locked inside that book. Igneel then put a spell upon that damned scarf to ward off all evil and gave it as a gift to my vessel."
"They must have somehow known that I would not give up so easily. Because just to make sure that I never again attempted to take over Natsu Dragneel's body, Zeref sent both him and Igneel to the future...while he and I stayed in the past..."
E.N.D smiled savagely and trailed a talon down Lucy's flushed cheeks.
"But thanks to you, Luce, I have been freed for the first time in 400 years!"
Lucy's lips parted and her stomach rolled horribly. She was going to be sick. The maggots had come crawling back and were feasting upon her heart as well as her insides.
Lucy's head jerked back out of instinct when E.N.D touched the wound on her cheek that he had given her. "I apologize for that," he muttered, the black cracks on his hand pulsed and shifted. "I had to get you away somehow." The inky black tendrils slithered around his fingers and crawled across Lucy's cheek. "I was not stable enough yet. I could have hurt you worse."
Lucy held very still out of fear as she felt the tendrils beginning to stitch up the brutal wound. Oddly, it did not hurt. Actually she could not feel it at all for her cheek had gone numb... Just like the rest of her. Once the slash was closed, E.N.D brought the tendrils back to rest on his hand.
"There," he said with a small smile. "All better."
"No, it isn't." Lucy mumbled, her hair falling into her eyes.
E.N.D's facial expression dropped and a flicker of concern sparked to life behind the cold mask that he wore. "What? Does it still hurt?" He wondered.
Lucy took a shaky breath before looking up. Surprise unfurled inside of E.N.D when Lucy and him locked eyes. Her eyes were burning for the first time since Natsu's demise.
"How dare you..." She hissed.
"How dare you repair my injuries with such care while you have just stolen more lives without so much as blinking an eye."
E.N.D crinkled his nose and furrowed his eyebrows. "But...their lives mean nothing to me." He explained to her. "And I suppose mine does?" Lucy shot back, hate fueling her words.
"Yes." E.N.D replied without pause.
Lucy was taken aback by this. "Why?" She murmured, searching his cold eyes. The Demon's chest rose and fell as he took a deep breath. "Because all of his memories were of you."
Lucy gasped and put a hand to her mouth. Natsu...
E.N.D studied her shocked face, "In each one you were glowing like you had the stars hidden within you." He shifted and flashed a smile different from all the rest. This one was warmer. Truer. Natsu's.
"Not even I could destroy something so bright, Luce."
Lucy's eyes fluttered and then she allowed them to shut. She did not care that she was once again showing how fragile she was to her enemy. She did not care when she began to cry in front of E.N.D. She did not care because she did not possess a working heart that showed her if she cared or not. Lucy just felt so done.
Something inside of E.N.D cracked and that something squeezed through the cracks it had made. It uncurled within and coated a small part of the Demon with its essence. E.N.D lowered his eyes away from the Princess' shaking body and instead looked down at his taloned hands.
Blood still stained the obsidian tips.
When he raised his eyes back to Lucy his hand followed suit. He reached for her. A greater force inside of him ordering him to wipe away her tears. To get her to somehow smile once more. He had just touched her skin when the temperature dropped.
E.N.D leaped away just in time to escape a dagger made from ice. The Demon dug his feet and hand into the ground to stop himself from skidding backwards. He jerked his head up and narrowed his eyes upon the person within the icy mist surrounding them.
Gray Fullbuster came into view.
His balled up hands by his sides and frost coating the area around him. He stood protectively in front of Lucy who was looking up at him with glistening eyes. Gray flicked his eyes around the battlefield filled with the dead bodies of his comrades.
He gritted his teeth and shouted out a battle cry as he sent dozens of little bullets shooting through the air. E.N.D snarled and awakened his fire that shot up around him protectively. The icy bullets melted upon impact with the Demon's Hell Fire. As Gray continued to fire bullets at E.N.D, he glanced over his shoulder to look at Lucy.
"You need to follow Juvia," he ordered her gruffly. "She will get you out of here. I'll find you both when I am finished." Lucy stared blankly at him, her eyes were locked onto E.N.D as he set fire to Gray's Magic. "Lucy!" She whipped her head up to find Gray glaring at her with intense eyes. "Get out of here!"
Lucy's lips parted as she stumbled to her feet. Then Juvia was there helping her deal with her messed up leg. The Water Woman put Lucy's arm around her neck and wrapped an arm around her Princess' side. Juvia turned to give Gray one last pained look before she began to lead Lucy away.
"Lucy," The Ice Mage called out to her, halting Juvia and Lucy in their tracks. "Here, found this." Lucy twisted around to look to see Gray reach into his back pocket and take something out. He threw that something into the air and it unfurled mid air.
Natsu's tainted treasure floated down into Lucy's awaiting hands...it was the last thing she had of him that were not her memories.
"If it's so important," Gray muttered, turning back to face E.N.D. "Then keep it close." Lucy didn't answer, her words had been snatched away by the amount of bewilderment she was feeling. Juvia started to move again and Lucy followed blindly beside her.
Her attention was on the scarf that she held.
The scarf was gradually turning white once more in Lucy Heartfilia's hands.
Natsu has fallen.
E.N.D has risen.
Fairy Tail has been defeated.
Or has it...?
Gray Fullbuster of Fairy Tail is Fiore's last chance to bring down Zeref's strongest Demon.
It's E.N.D Vs Gray!
