2. Legally Illegal
Noah's POV
"Okay, man I just got to Fremont Street. I've got to go." I say into my phone.
"Okay, see you soon man- Wait! do me a favor. Don't take any girl home tonight because she might just be my cousin. I definitely don't want you getting freaky with my cousin," he fakes gagging, "Her name is Leah." I smile knowing I won't be taking any girls tonight. Not because of what Adrian said but because that's not what I'm interested in.
"Sure thing, I'll see you in a week. Adios."
"Adios amigo."
I end the call and shove my phone into the front pocket of my jeans and walk across the street to Fremont Street. I see an abandoned drink half full. I don't hesitate to grab the drink and continue to walk, without looking back.
I blend back in with the crowd.
Blending in has always been one of my best qualities, it always helped when I got in trouble in high school. There were times in high school when teachers would forget I was in their classroom which was amazing because the next day they'd be sending me to detention.
I learned blending in was a good thing when I was young. It helped me in stealing and in school. When my mom died I was 8. My dad couldn't take losing her and taking care of me so a year later he left me on my own. I went to Adrian, the guy that I was on the phone with earlier, and his family took me in. They treated me like their own and I am eternally grateful.
Then my grandpa found me, 4 years later and at first all I felt was resentment. He couldn't find me 4 years earlier? But after a few months I began to forgive him and I gave into his help. He showed me how to pickpocket.
I look at the girls barely wearing anything and one catches my eye. I take this opportunity and I wink. She turns showing off her beautiful body and I give her a grin. She smirks back at me and I move on, blending into the crowd again.
I'm here a lot, at Fremont Street and I'm always successful here because of how crowded, busy and loud the street is. The men are too drunk to notice me grab their wallet. The girls are too enticed with talking to me and ordering drinks to see me snatch their purse from the table, take their money and place it back on the table. I know most of the workers and some locals who hang around.
Before I decide on whom to pickpocket I go to the nearest bar and I see a familiar face.
"Hey Sophie!" I lean on the bar, setting my drink down and smirk at the bartender across the bar. She rolls her eyes playfully before smiling.
"Hey Noah, who's the lucky girl tonight." She says sarcastically and I fake being hurt.
"Don't you want to be that girl?" I ask her leaning over the bar, next to her ear.
"Shut up, Noah." She says, rolling her eyes and I start laughing. I look up after my laughing fit and she's glaring at me. I set a smile on my face and continue.
"No need to be jealous Soph, I'm just out to be social." She rolls her eyes again.
I swear this girl will have an eye spasm.
"Get going then, don't want to keep your groupies waiting." She says sarcastically, wiping the counter and purposefully wiping where my hands are. She shoos me with her towel, getting drops on my sweatshirt and I cringe. I walk out and turn to salute her before she's out of sight. She salutes back, silently laughing and shaking her head.
I look around at the people walking through Fremont Street. I spot some fancy watches and decide I'll go for one. I slip into the crowd and walk easily keeping my head forward. I make sure who my target is again and then walk straight towards him. 3...2...1 The guy looks up at me, narrowing his eyes.
"Watch where you're going!" He thunders and I hold my hands up in defense as he stomps away. He has all of his bearing except he is missing his watch. Which has mysteriously moved to my jean pocket.
Oops?
I tuck the watch deeper in my pocket knowing that I can sell it at the pawn shop for at least $500. Usually I only go for money and wallets but sometimes I can't help myself. I don't usually get $500 in one go and I love the adrenaline rush. I continue to walk around and watch the dancing, drinking people. Searching for people I can easily pickpocket.
I slip through the crowd. Sticking my hand into coat pockets, sweatshirt pockets and pant pockets. Making sure not to cause any unintended attention, I drift into a dimly lit bar. I slide into a booth at the back and make sure to keep the money low and under the table. After counting it I come to around $2,000 not including the watch.
This is good for now and tomorrow I'll come back and make another catch like this. Then I'm on my way to Cali.
I step out of the booth and walk out of the club. I'm about to head back to my bike when a bright gold purse catches my eye. It lays on a bar counter with a fumbling girl near it. The girl is focused on paying for drinks in front of her. I walk up a couple feet away from her and the purse and she continues digging in her own purse.
I grab the purse, sucking in a breath. The girl continues to rummage, muttering under her breath. I open the purse and see a phone and a wallet. I take out the wallet and open it. The ID shows a pretty blonde girl with green eyes and a breath-taking-smile. Her name is Lei Ballard. Realizing that I've taken too much time already I grab the money. Quickly close the wallet, shove it in the purse and walk swiftly past the bar counter, leaving the gold purse in my trail.
"Ooph." The girl I bumped into while I was walking away begins to fall to the floor. Before she hits it I grab her wrist and yank her into my chest. I recognize the girl immediately.
Her blonde hair is in silky waves and is shining like the sun. Her green eyes are unguarded and wondering. Curiosity fills her eyes as she glances me up and down. Her outfit is daring and her skirt hangs to her hips, outlining them like a drawing.
I tear my eyes back to hers. She cocks her head to the side slightly as if she can't find words. She must've had a few drinks.
"Sorry!" She yells over the loud music.
"No It's alright it was my fault!" I yell back. It was obviously my fault. I was too busy thinking about her.
I pull my hood over my head and pray she won't remember me tomorrow. I see her curious green eyes watching me. I wave slightly and drift into the oncoming crowd.
Out of sight, out of mind.
I watched the notebook today and I was inspired, that's the kind of love I want to have. Forevermore kinda love. It'll always be you, love. SO antiways have a good night or day or anything and HOPEFULLY ill continue to be inspired. love u lots xoxo -hay
